Paul Simon - One Man's Ceiling Is Another Man's Floor Lyrics

There's been some hard feelings here
About some words that were said
There's been some hard feelings here
And what is more
There's been a bloody purple nose
And some bloody purple clothes
That were messing up the lobby floor
It's just apartment house rules
So all you 'partment fools
Remember : one man's ceiling
is another man's floor
Remember: one man's ceiling
is another man's floor

There's been some strange goin's on
And some folks have come and gone
And the elevator man don't work no more
I heard a racket in the hall
And I thought 1 heard a fall
But I never opened up my door
It's just apartment house sense
It's like apartment rents
Remember : one man's ceiling
is another man's floor
Remember: one man's ceiling
is another man's floor

And there's an alley
in the back of my building
Where some people congregate in shame
I was walking with mv dog
And the night was black with smog
When I thought I heard somebody
Call my name

In apartments it would be noisy . I'm glad we don't live apartments anymore. They make a lot noise on the floor. I like this song. I can relate👍👍👍👍

  3. F.... ....

Gotta love Barry Beckett's Piano from the Muscle Shoals Rhythm Section

  4. a.... o....

can rich men sing the blues?

  5. P.... S....

The title of this song sounds so poetic, about the highs and lows of different people's lives...and then you listen to the song and it's about how people share floors and ceilings.

Ha, I knew it! I knew I couldn't be the only one who at first, when reading the title from the album cover, thought this was one of Simon's more philosophical songs.
Still - art is transformative and poetry can have more than one meaning. Maybe that is why he liked that sentence, _because_ it sounds so philosophical. Doesn't matter anyway; song's still good :-)

    Fantastic song, fantastic album

  7. M.... O....

    Good one... and so true...

  8. M.... J....

I prefer it at this tempo. It was just a little too slow when he performed it on Stephan Colbert's show.

I was looking for his song that had this great piano riff but couldn't remember which song it was. Took me about 5 minutes to scroll back through the albums. I thought it was a few years later. Regardless... what a great little bit of interest tucked in here!

  17. N.... D....

I blast this in my apartment when I hear shit going on upstairs.

    N.... D....

    you mean downstairs?

    N.... D....

    😂😂😂😂

@Kubrick's Tube it wouldnt make a difference aside from his floor being their ceiling rather than his ceiling being their flood

    either way their neighbors suck

  18. T.... ....

I'm not looking at the ceiling.
