Paul Simon - Armistice Day Lyrics
On Armistice Day
The Philharmonic will play
But the songs that we sing
Will be sad
Shufflin brown tunes
No long drawn blown out excuses
Were made
When I needed a friend she was there
Just like an easy chair
Armistice Day
Armistice Day
That's all I really wanted to say
In Washington D.C.
I'm coming to see my Congressman
But he's avoiding me
Weary from waiting down in Washington D.C.
Oh Congresswoman
Won't you tell that Congressman
I've waited such a long time
I've about waited all I can
Oh Congresswoman
Won't you tell that Congressman

Paul Simon Armistice Day Comments
I like the guitar playing but the song is not much to get excited about.
D.A. Elliott Jr. Wrong
Absolutely incorrect, sir.
Man, some stellar guitar work on this thing.
Yep. Playing this on Armistice day.
When is that date? I luv this tune...
100 years, I always liked the scratchy electric rhythm at the end of this,
I will be playing this on armistice day, 2018. 100 years since the end of the war to end all wars.
Yep, I usually listen to it every November 11 since first hearing the album about 45 years ago.
Today's the day!
Happy 100 years
I heard this song today, on the day of the Ford-Kavenaugh hearings. Or half-hearing. The committee isn't listening to her story. They want their man seated!
Think of this day, at 1.45, Mr Congressman.
What a flawless guitar player
Such a great song. When I was a kid I was obsessed with Simon’s first three solo albums. I thought they were musical perfection.
For you young-timers and those from outside the USA, Armistice Day was November 11, now called Veterans Day.
rslitman thank you. You just educated a Canadian millennial who loves Paul Simon
Still called Armistice Day by me - marking the peace, celebrating the end of killing.
The best album he ever made...
Me gusta mucho esta grabación del álbum PAUL SIMON. No solo la canción, sino la grabación tal como está en el disco (con ese toque de guitarra, etcétera). También me gusta la letra, tan escueta y un poco enigmática. En un momento dado, dice: "No hubo explicaciones larguísimas y drogadas" (No long-drawn blown-out excuses were made). Esa frase representa bien a la canción: nada de verborrea desbordada y alucinada sino unas pocas pinceladas sugestivas.
LOVE IT
I hear some The Side of a Hill in this song. Right or wrong?
First time I've heard this track in at least 40 years. My dad ordered the album for my sister through the Columbia Record Club (a mail order deal). I think I listened to it more than she did!!
Ha! That's how I got mine. This was my first 'meaningful' rock album. I was 11. Ty, folks. Ty Columbia records and ty, Paul.
I used to have this on vinyl. Listening to several of these tracks here at YouTube, I'm struck by so much delectable guitar... guess I have to buy this one again, since I can't play LPs now.
+Dale Nelson you def want to have this one on vinyl - spend a calm afternoon listening to it...
I play my vinyls all the time. Especially my Pearl Jam.
Våbenstilstandsdagen!
I have this MP3 on my phone. All of the Simon stuff of this era is amazing ... the diversity of the structures and songs, all played to perfection. Paul Simon is no "One Trick Pony."
He's a true master in songwriting, that's what I mean.
What do you mean by that? :)
Master.
wooohoooo!so good to hear the original after all this time...
