Paul Revere & The Raiders - Birds Of A Feather Lyrics

I remember back a long time ago, in the days of my childhood
In the evenin' when the sun was sinkin' low, walkin' in the wildwood
Skippin' and flippin' through the flowers, we'd go hand-in-hand
Lookin' back on all the happy hours, anyone one could understand
You and me, babe, sure 'nough got to be, babe

Birds of a feather, na na na na na na na na
We should be together like
Birds of a feather, na na na na na na na na
Got to be together like birds of a feather

You and I didn't have a lot of friends, didn't have too much to say
So they never would let us join in all the games they used to play
Seems like it was only yesterday, all the thinkin's you and I
I remember what the kids used to say as we'd go strollin' by
You and me, babe, sure 'nough got to be, babe

Birds of a feather, na na na na na na na na
We should be together like
Birds of a feather, na na na na na na na na
Got to be together like birds of a feather

Time goes rollin' by, and they say that you and I
Must go our separate ways
But birds of a feather will always be together

Your folks didn't want me hangin' 'round, said that I was bad for you
So we'd meet on the other side of town, down a long dark avenue
But they can't keep the 2 of us apart long as you really love me
I got a feelin' way down in my heart, that's the way it's gonna be

Birds of a feather, na na na na na na na na
We should be together like

GREAT SONG, GREAT GROUP, GREAT BASS!

my first concert was Paul Revere and the Raiders. They wore the sequence suits, knee high boots and came with choreography  like synchronised  leg kicking. Backed up by Merilee Rush and the Turnabouts and a Vancouver band The Northwest Company. It was a good time of life. Went to concerts ever since.

  6. B.... B....

    Anybody know the other musicians?

    B.... B....

@Bob Bryan 'Other' meaning besides Paul and Mark Lindsay? That would be Mike 'Smitty' Smith on drums, Keith Allison on bass, and Freddy Weller on guitar.

    B.... B....

Freddy went on to have a county music career

  7. n.... c....

Mark Lindsay is my favorite male singer.

  11. R.... H....

Omg. MEMORIES! As a 16 year old, the Raiders were my favorite band. Mark Lindsey was the hottest man on the planet for many of us girls. They were ahead of their time , did rocking songs, were happy and not drunk or high all the time. How I miss the 60s.

    R.... H....

but he looks like shit here...just two years earlier they were at their coolest looking

  12. B.... B....

    B.... B....

Rollin' On The River (as it was called in 1971)

    B.... B....

Show hosted by Kenny Rogers and the First Edition. Believe it was taped in Canada and syndicated.

Thanks Ron... I'm enjoying your recent song posts on FB! I will be catching up on more of those soon! :D

  23. F.... B....

Great follow up to "Indian Reservation" reminds me of my Junior High days at Palms Jr. High in West Los Angeles!

  24. D.... A....

I love the music from 60s and 70s Mark Lindsey was hot looking back to them days I remember being 15 and so crazy over teenage crushes lol

  25. c.... g....

sad part. band didnt look happy at all like they used to

    c.... g....

For a band that is used to playing live, being forced to lip sync is a really depressing prospect. They wouldn't even let Mark, Keith and Freddy do live vocals like they almost always did.

  26. .... ....

Фантастическая песня!!!!! Как я её люблю!!!!!!! Ай какие карсавчеги!!!!!

  27. G.... M....

Indian Reservation may be the most under rated album of all time!

    G.... M....

    @Alfred Neuman
i'll try it  , i gotta move this to cassette tape first

    G.... M....

@silverbird58 I very much agree. Even "I am the Turkey" has some good riffs.

    G.... M....

    @Greg M.
hey wait i got this on LP  .  come in you'll get pneumonia ,is pre  rock opera  sound !

    G.... M....

Their album from 1970 “Collage” is much better than IR imo.

  28. J.... W....

It was a dark day when this Rock'n' Roll icon passed form this earth to the Home in Heaven. We will miss his great music and his fun personality, but Heaven will be richer for it.
He is there now  entertaining those whom have gone before us, and he will be there to entertain us once again someday. I was there from the beginning, have all of the original band's albums and have loved them from day one. Their music, their fun on stage; and, if you have ever been one of the lucky ones who had one of his three-cornered hats sent flying out to you from stage AND still have that hat, you have truly been blessed for it! Their music was always so fun to dance to also. RIP Paul and hope to see you on the other side someday. God bless you for the legacy you have left us.

    J.... W....

@***** Yes, they were and they were so entertaining when one was lucky enough to see them live. I love these guy and, and oh yes, the memories they have left us. Treasured memories!

    J.... W....

Uncle Paul was one hell of a dude. Twice my age and had twice the energy. I'm gonna miss that old fart.

    J.... W....

Hi, Judy Willox. I'm a 70- year- old Raider fan. Though I never got to see them in person, I bought all their records (LPs) and still have them.
And, yes, they were fun to watch on TV and listen and dance to their music. I stayed a fan when Mark Lindsay went solo and recorded such hits like Arizona, Miss America, Silver Bird, etc.

    J.... W....

Totally agree Judy. Uncle Paul was one of a kind and we were blessed by he and The Raiders. Yes, I believe with all of my heart that he is in Heaven now . i was only about 6 years old when Action was on, but have been a fan as long as I can remember. Their music is timeless and VERY underrated.

    J.... W....

I agree most heartily. Was disappointed when group decided to tweak name so it was just "Raiders." The cover of the "Collage" album showed the group with sober expressions, even Paul, who had always flashed his shining smile, a real trademark of the group. It has been said the R&R Hall of Fame didn't like their gimmicky costumes, but man, who cares? I thought that was a fun aspect of it all, a play on Paul's name. Hindsight is easy - the group probably had had their "run" and they'd have to fade into the background. But what a run they had!

  29. J.... R....

Played the crap out of this 45,BACK IN THE DAY,as they say today !! LOLOL

  30. t.... ....

Aw I didn't know Jo passed away or that he wrote this cool lost hit from the early 70's.

  31. s.... r....

Fantastic song. Want to have this played at my second marriage coming up in 2014.

  32. s.... ....

    71 today, Happy Birthday Mark!!!

  33. d.... ....

Sounds almost like Brown Eyed Girl.

  34. B.... S....

Still IS, even without the ponytail.

  35. B.... S....

OH Yes, Joe was the best drummer they had later on, but Smitty was too. I met both of them and they were both very sweet, but especially your cousin. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on here

  36. B.... S....

This was recorded by Keith Allison on his LP before he did it with the Raiders...it was cute with his "Texas Drawl"

  37. S.... ....

I would have loved to run my fingers through Keith and Mark's hair!

  38. C.... M....

Joe South did this originally, but this cover version is actually better. That's a rarity. Also the full version of South's original ends with a chorus of his hit Games People Play

  39. 6.... ....

    Great info, thanks!

  40. R.... B....

Written by Joe South who has passed away the week I write this. RIP Joe.

  41. C.... f....

i still think my cousin from Greenwood, Mississippi was the better of the two drummers... Joe Correro, Jr

  42. B.... K....

I heard Keith Allison's version first. I still like it better. Both are very good, but Keith had more soul.

  43. B.... L....

Thought it was gonna be "Brown-eyed Girl" for a minute... hmm, which tune came first?

  44. F.... B....

@bze2nlz4 I always dug Mark. I always though he was so cool with his pony tail and good looks!

  45. 6.... ....

@MrRaiderfan1000 I've seen Mark about five times and I don't agree that he's put a 'new spin' on any of his signature songs. Besides, it's difficult to put on the 'Raiders' act when you're solo. You won't convince most Mark Lindsay fans of the last 45+ years that today's Raiders are anything more than a great cover band, unable to match Mark's voice. However, I do give Paul props for continuing the Raiders legacy, and I probably will go see them one of these days for the nostalgia! :)

  46. F.... B....

@bze2nlz4 It's all relative. I saw Mark singing his old Raider songs and he did not treat the songs with the same care that Paul does. He tries to add a new spin to the these great songs and it seems to defeat the purpose. I saw them at the Iowa State fair and even with out Mark they brought in the crowd and we were not disappointed, Paul is still true to the original look and sound and I do not think there was one person that walked away disappointed. My little boy loved them!

  47. z.... ....

@1962drob Yeah, I am sure this is from the Rollin' show hosted by Kenny Rogers & the First Edition.

  48. ".... M....

Mark sounds really great on this song. I'll bet this was the same show that had the Raiders singing "Indian Reservation", which was one of my favorite songs from the early '70's.
    Great song :)

  49. b.... s....

    love it

  50. ".... M....

This is a great song by The Raiders. Mark looks different without his ponytail, but the long hair and mustache look pretty cool. Hey, Mark looks great today. Wish I would have been old enough to watch "Where The Action Is" on ABC-TV. I missed out on some good programming. Today's TV shows are a joke.
Sorry, don't mean to bag on today's TV shows, just that there are WAY too many reality shows out there.
IT'S PEOPLE LIKE YOU AND ME THAT KEEP THE SPIRIT OF THE '60'S AND '70'S ALIVE!!!

  51. D.... ....

I saw them in Branson. Paul: "People ask why we dedided to do a Golden Oldies show.... Well, when you haven't had a hit in 35 years!" He was funny. Bill Medley's son was singing Mark Lindsay's part. If you ever get to Branson and if Paul Revere is still there, it's a great show to see.

  52. t.... ....

The one guy can't "drum-sync" worth a shit.

  53. V.... W....

Oh I'd love to jump in his arms

  54. ".... M....

@LoveMarriott Anyway both you and Chris have great taste in music (I know, Chris, I said it about a million times already). But to LoveMarriott I wanted to mention it. Keep checking out all these great vids that YouTube has to offer. :)
    -Dean-

  55. ".... M....

@LoveMarriott I noticed you like this video. It is an awesome video indeed. I forgot to mention (to bze2nlz4) that this kind of reminds me of The Brady Bunch where Greg forms "The Brady 6" and sings that one song (forgot the name of it) but it's the last song they sing with Peter's voice changing before the episode ends, where they go "Sha na na na na na" (Oh I remember, "Time to Change"). My favorite Brady Bunch episode. This song came out around the same time.

  56. ".... M....

@susan53ful (cont) Also the Stones, the Who, the Kinks, Dave Clark 5, Hendrix, Yardbirds, New Colony Six, just to name a few from the"60's. So, yes, I feel the same way you do. (Oh, I forgot, Vanilla Fudge circa 1968). Mark Lindsay can do a wide range of voices and looks and sounds great, even today. So I think PR&TR's should be in the RRHOF!!!. Peace!!! :)

  57. ".... M....

@susan53ful I agree 100%. Today's music has no meaning to it. I was born in 1962, so even though I was a toddler when the Raiders signed with Dick Clark in '65 I consider them to be my favorite '60's group. Yes, I like Mark Lindsay, dig his ponytail. Cannot stand rap or hip hop. Don't even understand what kids listen to today. A lot of today's singers sound gay. I also like the Rasberries, Grand Funk, BTO, Led Zeppelin, just to name a few from the '70's. I like the Doors, Beatles (cont)

  58. ".... M....

@bze2nlz4 I listened to "The original Handy Man" last night. Mark does look good with a beard but I prefer Mark with no facial hair. Mark has a wide range of voices and is very multi-talented. :)

  59. 6.... ....

@1962drob Check out 'The Original Handy Man' here from 1969. I'm not crazy about beards, but on Mark, it looks real decent.

  60. ".... M....

@bze2nlz4 This is a very upbeat song from 1971. Mark Lindsay looks cool with long hair and his mustache. Good to see Smitty on drums. Too bad Fang and Drake never came back.

  61. K.... M....

This video is another homerun. Mark made PR&R what they were! I would not attend the Branson show because they are simply another cover band. No magic whatsoever without Mark Lindsay!

  62. 6.... ....

@trailboyus66 Sadly, it just isn't the same band except for PR. I'm sure they give a very entertaining show, but they lost the magic way back in the 70's when Mark Lindsay left....

  63. t.... ....

Paul Revere & The Raiders are performing in Branson Mo. now @ Andy Williams theatre. The first 70's Party I ever attended in my life this song was played in 12-71
@ The Old Gym in Licking Mo. The party was a going away party for Mr.Lane. 8th grade teacher. It was all so cool..

  64. 6.... ....

@rwells47 Hey Ron...thanks for the comment and feel free to send your Joe South version here as a video response!
