Parsons, Gram - Zah's Blues Lyrics

A baby doesn't know
How loneliness can feel
She has her own small world
And nothing in it's real
Just spread joy all around
And watch the sun coming down

When I was young the world was rich
With spices and par fays
My heart was filled with pride
My head was filled with praise
I wore my youth like a crown
And watch the sun coming down

Love only lasts for a moment
Life holds a brief smile for all
The sunshine can't last forever
And soon the night must fall

Memories can fade
In dreams that you can find
You'll finally reach the end
And never look behind
No use in turning around
It's just the sun coming down

No use in turning around
It's just the sun coming down
It's just the sun coming down

Parsons, Gram Zah's Blues Comments
  1. S.... G....

Probably Gram's greatest ballad. Like Jackson Browne's fine song These Days this is the work of a very young man. You wouldn't think so, it seems like the writing of an older person, but Gram was in his very late teens when he wrote this. WOW.

  2. M.... R....

Just reading 20,000 Roads, and the lyrics to this song sound suspiciously like his own life. Pretty sad for a kid to write.

  3. S.... J....

    Great Tune!

  4. H.... C....

    WOW 💟

  5. D.... M....

Don't believe this is Gram. Too much vibrato. Anyone know the history behind this record?

    D.... M....

Very early recordings from March 1965 to December of 1966. I believe it was a home recording, not made in a studio. If you listen to the whole record Another side of this life - the lost recordings, you will heat that this is a very young Gram. His style of singing  I think changed trough his short life. Some songs are GP originals like November Nights a song Peter Fonda recorded later

    Awesome!

  7. B.... M....

I dont know how this could be written for a woman. It's about losing your sense of wonder as you age.

  8. j.... ....

Different from what came a little later but the song draws you into it like all the rest.

  9. D.... M....

    Most beautiful

  10. t.... d....

this is great. original yet reminds me of the late great Tim Hardin. thank you!

  11. C.... ....

He wrote this for a girlfriend. Lucky girl whoever she was. Such a beautiful voice. I could listen to him all day. Infact, I think I will.

  12. B.... A....

Roots of the Grievous Angel simple soulful Cosmic American Music RIP Gram

  13. r.... ....

Reminds me a bit of Chet Baker. I've just discovered this recording

    r.... ....

+riggymsu I thought the same thing. Could definitely be a track off chet baker sings.

  14. G.... S....

beautiful almost beach boys feel. has early 60s written all over over it like Frankie Avalon and twiggy should be kissing on a beach to it. I'm glad I found this acoustic album. comegimes the cosmic country doesn't transpire with me

  15. H.... T....

Very touching. This song also appears on the Warm Evenings, Pale Mornings, Bottled Blues collection - well worth a listen.

  16. M.... J....

All time favorite Gram song. So raw.. Gets me everytime.. Rest In Paradise Gram 💖

  17. M.... L....

An amazing talent, gone too soon.

The beauty in Gram Parsons. I truly appreciate what he has given to the world. There would be no Ryan Adams, Bright Eyes or Wilco if it wasn't for GP. I fell in love with his his solo records and didn't get into the Flying Burrito Brothers or International Submarine Band until later in life. And I didn't get into Sweetheart of the Rodeo until much later in life. The record where this can be found (Another side of this life) is full beautiful demos. I would recommend anyone buy it.

  19. J.... S....

Who the hell hasn't heard of Gram Parsons ? Really ? Say it ain't so.

    J.... S....

you mean that over rated trust fund millionare, that tried to buy his way in to the music scene

    J.... S....

@Tom Egerstrom Didn't work for you, huh Tom?

  20. t.... d....

Muito obrigado para o vídeo. o que um cantor maravilhoso e músico magnífico. descansam em paz, Senhor Parsons.

  21. B.... M....

    Good vocal, Gram.

  22. s.... ....

I haven't figured all of it out yet but I've got the main progression down. The verses go F#m13 to Am7+5 to Cmaj7 to Gm7 resolving to Dmaj7, which is almost the same as the F#m13.

    F#m13 Am7+5 Cmaj7 Gm7 Dmaj7
    2x2224 585555 x35453 353333 xx0222

I haven't got the intro but it sounds like a VI-II-V-I with lots of added colors resolving to the Dmaj7 (F#m13) to start.

There is a bridge that is slightly different. Gram wrote this in high school!

    s.... ....

Did you figure the rest out??
    :)

    s.... ....

@Barty Dulake Hahaha! Not hardly. And when I look back on what I thought it was nine years ago I think most of it is wrong.

  23. C.... ....

@narut13 Agreed. I've been trying to figure this song out for years but I'm too mediocre of a guitarist to be able to find out what weird chords these are.

  24. J.... C....

This is NOT from The Early Years. This cut is from Gram Parsons Another Side of this Life from Sundazed Music

    J.... C....

Jim Carlton I have this album on vinyl. It's definitely on there.
