Paisley, Brad - Accidental Racist Lyrics

To the man that waited on me at the Starbucks down on Main, I hope you understand
When I put on that t-shirt, the only thing I meant to say is I'm a Skynyrd fan
The red flag on my chest somehow is like the elephant in the corner of the south
And I just walked him right in the room
Just a proud rebel son with an 'ol can of worms
Lookin' like I got a lot to learn but from my point of view

I'm just a white man comin' to you from the southland
Tryin' to understand what it's like not to be
I'm proud of where I'm from but not everything we've done
And it ain't like you and me can re-write history
Our generation didn't start this nation
We're still pickin' up the pieces, walkin' on eggshells, fightin' over yesterday
And caught between southern pride and southern blame

They called it Reconstruction, fixed the buildings, dried some tears
We're still siftin' through the rubble after a hundred-fifty years
I try to put myself in your shoes and that's a good place to begin
But it ain't like I can walk a mile in someone else's skin

'Cause I'm a white man livin' in the southland
Just like you I'm more than what you see
I'm proud of where I'm from but not everything we've done
And it ain't like you and me can re-write history
Our generation didn't start this nation
And we're still paying for the mistakes
That a bunch of folks made long before we came
And caught somewhere between southern pride and southern blame

Dear Mr. White Man, I wish you understood
What the world is really like when you're livin' in the hood
Just because my pants are saggin' doesn't mean I'm up to no good
You should try to get to know me, I really wish you would
Now my chains are gold but I'm still misunderstood
I wasn't there when Sherman's March turned the south into firewood
I want you to get paid but be a slave I never could
Feel like a new fangled Django, dodgin' invisible white hoods
So when I see that white cowboy hat, I'm thinkin' it's not all good
I guess we're both guilty of judgin' the cover not the book
I'd love to buy you a beer, conversate and clear the air
But I see that red flag and I think you wish I wasn't here

I'm just a white man
(If you don't judge my do-rag)
Comin' to you from the southland
(I won't judge your red flag)
Tryin' to understand what it's like not to be

I'm proud of where I'm from
(If you don't judge my gold chains)
But not everything we've done
(I'll forget the iron chains)
it ain't like you and me can re-write history
(Can't re-write history baby)

Oh, Dixieland
(The relationship between the Mason-Dixon needs some fixin')
I hope you understand what this is all about
(Quite frankly I'm a black Yankee but I've been thinkin' about this lately)
I'm a son of the new south
(The past is the past, you feel me)
And I just want to make things right
(Let bygones be bygones)
Where all that's left is southern pride
(R.I.P. Robert E. Lee but I've gotta thank Abraham Lincoln for freeing me, know what I mean)
It's real, it's real
It's truth

Paisley, Brad Accidental Racist Comments
  1. I.... F....

Can someone explain whats so bad

  2. T.... B....

This some BULLLLLLLLLshit! I can't believe LL spoke those words, his adlibs were worse than the verse!

  3. B.... J....

NO. IDGAF WHAT UR REASON FOR WEARING THAT FUCKING REBEL FLAG IS! U KNOW IT'S FUCKING PERCIEVED AS RACIST SO WHY THE FUCK T U THINKING IT IS OK TO WEAR?? U KNOW DAMN WELL WHAT THAT FLAG IS!

  4. K.... D....

ah yes do-rag=confederate flag- seems like they both have equal meaning

  5. B.... B....

the fact that this song was written and BOTH brad paisley AND ll cool j said ‘hell yeah let’s record this’ is incredible

  6. M.... B....

I can’t believe this is real. I need to go listen to God Made Girls, a REAL song.

  7. J.... T....

somehow the l l cool j parts are by far the worst

"if you dont judge my gold chain, i'll forget the iron chains"

    holy shit no wtf

  8. t.... l....

Oh great this shit was uploaded on my Birthday way to add insult to injury

  9. A.... L....

    Garbage.

  10. C.... C....

Lmfao I died when he said dear Mr white man lmfao ass off who gave the go on this shit lol

  11. c.... z....

    Unpopular opinion:

You hate this song because you are intolerant of what you think racism is. Confederate memorabilia, buildings, and statues.

To you it may stand for hatred and evil, but to some it stands for history and progress. A reminder that humans used to own other humans and it was LEGAL. A reminder of how far we have come as a society.

That is why Auschwitz has not been taken down. That is why 9/11’s Twin Towers’s foundations are still there.

Do you see anyone taking down mosques in NYC because of 9/11? No. Because that would be hateful, racist, and Islamophobic.

Banning the Nazi flag in Germany, the US, the UK, or anywhere displays the same level of intolerance and hatred that the Nazis showed.

Having resentment towards those who wear or raise the Confederate flag shows just as much intolerance as the slave owners of their time.

You can’t re-write the past, but symbols are symbols. Statues are statues and memorabilia is memorabilia.

If somebody proudly owns a Nazi flag, don’t assume off the rip that they stand for what the Nazis stood for. Especially if it’s an old man. They likely kept it as a war trophy.

Are you scared of the alt-right and neo-fascism? Read the articles that told you that they’re on the rise. Those nutjobs are only in the lower ten of thousands out of the HUNDREDS OF MILLIONS that live in the US. Even then, most of those thousands are only associated with the alt-right because of their opinions on Charlottesville’s statue and NOTHING ELSE.

Are you tolerant of all cultures, races, and people? Are you TRULY? Do you love your neighbor? Do you TRULY? If you did, you wouldn’t be mad at this song.

  12. K.... M....

I liked that one line better in the Dead Milkmen song. "If you ain't got Mojo Dixon then your store could use some fixin"

  13. M.... B....

Ok whoever mixed in LL cool j suckkkked at it like they didn’t even try man. Sounded like they barely edited his vocals. Also the lyrics suck.

  14. T.... D....

What....bro I had a picture of MlK on the wall

I just looked over and bro wasn’t even in the frame anymore

  15. D.... ....

I mean its not a bad message. it just feels like a mom that doesn’t know anything that’s trying to understand and be supportive

  16. V.... L....

    😂 holy shit! 😂

  17. B.... K....

    This song gave malaria

  18. i.... ....

    alfo media pmo 😌

  19. C.... L....

Moron Aldean doesnt know what thr confederate flag means?

  20. M.... P....

The instrumentals are good but not so much for the lyrics

  21. b.... e....

“if you don’t judge my gold chains, i’ll forget the iron chains” ...uhhh

  22. J.... ....

This is why I haven’t gotten into country.

  23. R.... ....

    Nobody:

    LL: CAN’T REWRITE HISTORY BABYYYYYY

  24. T.... C....

The only redeeming quality about this is that it ends.

    T.... C....

Not a good song lyric/melody wise. But idk why everyone dicks on the message. Even if it’s corny and weirdly put, we need all the attempts at unity we can get

  25. S.... W....

so many good ideas but awful executions. i thought the message would be about the white man trying to help black people and not be a racist bigot, but it's actually about "LeT's JUsT FoRgET SlAvErY GuYs"

no, just no. you can't just forget that your ancestors were enslaved and your white ancestors killed and enslaved black people. you can't just forget that. and WHY ARE YOU CALLING THE SONG ACCIDENTAL RACIST? AND WHY ARE YOU SAYING LINCOLN HAD GOOD INTENTIONS TO FREE YOU WHEN HE JUST WANTED TO SAVE HIS NATION? HE NEVER CARED ABOUT BLACK PEOPLE, THAT WAS JUST A FRONT!!

  26. T.... K....

This might be the worst thing ever created

  27. C.... B....

Everything about this is just awful.

  28. D.... B....

This is why no one should ever listen to country music

  29. C.... B....

This is the worst piece of garbage ive ever heard

  30. L.... O....

this is the only song iv'e ever heard that literally gets 10 times worse every 30 seconds.

    L.... O....

    lmao underrated comment.

    L.... O....

The opening line had me thinking it really couldn’t get much worse but holy shit was I wrong that’s six minutes of my life I’ll never get back

  31. B.... P....

    this song fucking sucks

  32. c.... t....

this is probably one of the most god awful songs i have ever had to sit through

  33. J.... M....

We need to thank these guys for fixing everything :)

  34. b.... ....

    Alfo media brought me here

    b.... ....

I mean its not a bad message it just feels like a mom that doesn’t know anything that’s trying to understand and be supportive

    b.... ....

    DeanRichard yo that’s pretty on-point

    b.... ....

    Same here!!!!

  35. B.... ....

    Blursed af, TIHI

  36. D.... C....

“If you don’t judge my do-rag, I won’t judge your red flag.”

Who tf is listening to this music?? Stop.

  37. E.... B....

You can hear LL cool J’s career die when he say “RIP Robert E Lee”

    E.... B....

It comes out of nowhere and is just bafflng. Imagine if Lil Dicky had a song where he sincerely states "RIP Erwin Rommel".

  38. J.... F....

I get the point of the song but saying if you accept my gold chains ill forget the iron chains???

  39. A.... M....

This is the worst song ever written and you can never convince me otherwise.

  40. V.... L....

I've often wondered why white Anglos get all the blame for slavery when the Portuguese and Spanish are the ones who turned it into an institution. Americans, as a nation, didn't even exist yet. I also think that if we didn't spend so much time categorizing ourselves, we'd be better off. Don't ask me about my race every time I turn around. I'm content with just saying I'm human and American.

  41. s.... q....

Interesting lyrics but this young generation is too stupid to study the message

  42. r.... ....

South: okay so we don't get slaves. But we still get to fly the flag and design every part of society to make black people have every possible chance to fail and a tiny chance to succeed if they have a talent we can exploit. You get to wear gold chains and baggy pants.
    LL Cool J: DEAL!
Problem solved now we can go back to having white male presidents.

  43. t.... d....

    "but im still misunderstood" lol

  44. B.... R....

    LL is a token

  45. D.... W....

    🤦‍♂️

  46. X.... G....

    Damn.... this soooooo corny🤣🤣🤣🤣

  47. J.... ....

LL Cool J at his lowest.

  48. J.... O....

Love it for the *cringe* 😩
Fuck black people that don't like me 😊

  49. R.... M....

Yup sorry about the rich dicks from the South that wouldn't let their slaves go.

That being said I'll fly a Rebel flag if I want and I don't care what anyone else says, it ain't racist if it's not used in that context.

    R.... M....

you do you. most of the comments here are about LL being such a wuss

  50. I.... S....

The lyrics are cringe, but the tune has potential

  51. d.... ....

Reading these comments is really hurtfu. Maybe disappointing is a Bette word. Surely anyone can see what Brad was attempting to do. Some of the LL Cool J parts needed refining but my God...why rip Brad for trying to bring some understanding to such a screwed up nation. One that is still trying to heal itself. We are more than our past. The person we see is more than what we see. I love country music. I've always been drawn to it. I'm a true son of the south. I love fishing, hunting, my guns and my GOD and my country. And I'm a black man. I do my best to judge people for who they show they are. Not because they drive a truck or even wave that rebel flag. There is still hurt because so many people refuse to see how slavery is still affecting black people. To defend it is wrong. And for black people to be handicapped by it is wrong too. We can't blame everything on slavery and a lot of us do. So...the song is trying to bring about dialogue and then maybe some understanding. God I pray so.

  52. N.... N....

I'M A BLACK MAN IN SOUTH AFRICA🇿🇦. THE COUNTRY THAT'S BEEN THROUGH MORE RACIAL TENSIONS THAN USA OR UK OR FRANCE ETC. TRUST ME WHEN I SAY THAT WE NEED MORE OF THIS. DON'T CONFUSE THE MESSAGE. THIS SONG IS ABOUT UNITY.💪🏿💪🏻✌🏿✌🏻 ALL THE AFOREMENTIONED COUNTRIES WITH STRONG PRESENCE OF BLACK AND WHITE NEED TO MAKE MORE SONGS LIKE THIS. ALL WORLD. ONE LOVE❤❤

  53. B.... T....

If u dnt judge my durag

  54. M.... J....

its nice that american country music apologizes for white men's evil deeds

  55. K.... D....

Like if youre only here because of reddit lol

  56. M.... S....

    Big oof.

  57. T.... ....

Parks and Roars from Joe Budden podcast bringing us to da NationWide is on your side guy is crazy lol😂😂

  58. C.... ....

Brad Paisley ended racism with this track, and people still talk about MLK

    C.... ....

    So lame

    C.... ....

    Nice pfp

    C.... ....

WE DID IT GUYS, RACISM IS NO MORE

    C.... ....

Yo rip my boi James Earl Ray but I gotta shout out MLK for fighting 4 our rights ya feel me

    C.... ....

This man ended and defended racism in one song. Such a powerful guy respect🏳️❌✨

  59. M.... V....

Crap tune gets even worse with the rapping. Brutal.

  60. C.... F....

To the people defending this awful song, literally nobody missed the point of the song. It’s just a garbage song. Simply having a nice message doesn’t make it a good song. There are undoubtedly plenty of 10 year olds who could write a better song than this. It’s amazing that this was actually created by professionals and released into the public. The lyrics are beyond idiotic.

  61. F.... J....

Why...intentions are epic but that verse. LL smh that set us back man 🤦🏾‍♂️😂 omg 🤦🏾‍♂️ I’m obviously super late but that was terrible 😂 “Dont judge my gold chains and I’ll forgive the iron ones” NIGGAAA🤷🏽‍♂️ *Kevin Hart Voice 😂😂 I can’t 😂 who are your friends 🤔😂 there’s no way you let the boys hear this and they said it was fire 🤯😂💀 get new friends ...yesterday! This shit just made me mad at white people for no reason 😂😂 I feel disrespected that y’all allowed LLCoolJay ( whole name 😂) to be the spokesperson for all black people 😂🤦🏾‍♂️😂 was Jcole not available? 🤔 Hell, Will Smith 😂🗣somebody, anybody! 😂😂 I’m done💀 Brad I get it , perspective is everything but damn LL😂🤦🏾‍♂️..Damn

  62. R.... T....

This is the worst shit I’ve ever heard in all my life no wonder I’m hearing this for the first time in 2019 June 23

  63. C.... S....

We use this as a challange. I made it up to 2:30. I rather not drink, than listen to this

  64. q.... ....

lol at trying to excuse people who're proudly displaying racist battleflags. What's next, one where a Jew and a Nazi sing about how the swastika is just GERMAN PRIDE and "I'll forgive your windmill if you forgive my six-pointed star"? You're wearing a confederate flag, you're missing the days where you could own and torture black people.

  65. F.... ....

    The Original Old Town Road

    F.... ....

More like the antimatter universe old town road

  66. A.... Q....

This song proves that racism isnt a thing anymore. Prove me wrong.

    A.... Q....

*gestures towards the reality we live in*

  67. M.... J....

0:01 - 3:46 eh this is sorta good 3:47 - end I was like what the fuck is this

  68. N.... H....

One of the worst songs ever recorded

  69. G.... l....

robert e lee is the best

  70. K.... W....

That's the problem with people today they're so ignorant. If you really this song it makes sense. You cannot rewrite history

  71. Y.... T....

    Killed it😆😆😆

  72. A.... C....

So I'm confused are white Americans supposed to feel guilty for something their grandparents did?

  73. K.... ....

Is this a parody? This cant be real...i know James Todd Smith didnt really mean to say that...stop playing...yall play too fucking much dawg

  74. T.... B....

I think I hate LL Cool even more now.

  75. B.... C....

"O Brother this guys stinks!!!!!!!" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

    Thanks Bodega Boys

  76. P.... D....

    Well put 👏👏

  77. G.... M....

brad paisley is from west virginia he’s not even from the south

    G.... M....

Also, Fun Fact: West Virginia was officially Neutral in the Civil War, alongside Maryland, Delaware, Ohio and Missouri. They were still part of the Union, but they kept slaves-and some communities fought in both sides of the war. The adage "Brother vs. Brother" in the Civil War was never more rampant than on the Mason Dixon line.

    G.... M....

ThereMayBeLions if u think somebody from pennsylvania is from the south it actually stupid

    G.... M....

West Virgina is southern we eat gravy and biscuit. Drink sweet tea. Most of the state has a southern accent. Also General Stonewall Jackson is from WV.

    G.... M....

ThereMayBeLions south west Missouri was part of the south in the end I believe.

    G.... M....

Guthrie Moore idk whether it’s southern or not but my uncle worked there as an electrician for a while and he says it’s the most racist place he’s ever been (he’s lived in most of the us)

  78. B.... ....

Was this "Sorry, not Sorry" before that other song?

  79. B.... O....

    I like it 😛

  80. E.... B....

    "Conversate."

  81. .... ....

    This song sounds so shitty...

  82. S.... T....

UUUuuuugggghh what the absolute fuck is this????? I saw this title on something and thought I would give it a listen...complete and absolute BULLSHIT!!!

  83. S.... ....

So basically, the message of this song is "Don't judge a book by it's cover"

  84. A.... M....

Not a bad song I do not understand why people hate it better then hearing the N word or the B word every five second in a terrible rap video with some guy who can't spell little (Lil)

By the way I am not racist just hate people who act ghetto and talk really annoyingly

  85. C.... B....

    2019, still relevant.

    C.... B....

    It's utter shit

    C.... B....

    accident😂

  86. S.... ....

This happened and we let it happen

  87. H.... M....

HAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA!!! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy???? Gold chains and a red flag!

  88. S.... ....

    👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾👎🏾

  89. C.... M....

Song is gay no matter what race you are...

  90. s.... ....

    I need a shower.

  91. B.... ....

    It's real. It's real. It's truth.

  92. l.... w....

Brad, this song is pure SHIT !

  93. M.... S....

    This is FUCKING GARBAGE

  94. .... ....

As a Black man in the South, I appreciate this song. I've never listened to Brad Paisley, but I have to respect this.

It's easy to criticise. Nobody's perfect, but he is speaking up on some real things that no one else has the balls to approach. And I appreciate the way he did this right here.

If you don't live in the South, you might not understand the value of this song.

  95. R.... ....

This is the worst song ever
