Interesting fact about this song, they were so rushed to finish the album that Randy never got a chance to add an actual solo! What you hear is a “place holder” for a solo that Randy never got to write.

Amazing this was released in 1981 and it is just as tantalizing now as it was then. Rock on People!!!!

It was mid January 1982 - I had just turned 12 years old about a week earlier.... About 20 of us were at this chicks basement where we all hung out after school sometimes and somebody put this record on...side 2.... Little Dolls, ratta tatta tatta tatta Tat tat tat,,, I was across the room and my neck snapped around towards the hi-fi haha What a relic that thing was! The drums though were banging out something I had never imagined they could do..and the guitar screams in AND THEN!??? that VOICE!!! Who the fuck is this I asked?!?!?!? I was gonna murder someone if they didn't tell me right that second. I bee-lined towards the giant record player/ china cabinet thing. I had found my soul mate OZZY lol.... I had never ever heard of him before. (I'm an only child so I didn't have a big bro to show me Sabbath). I rocked out till the end of the song, dumbfounded, fascinated. Then the magical "Tonight" swept me away. "S.A.T.O" the guitar solo had my jaw on the floor. Diary of a fucking MADMAN!!!????? I thought I was gonna jiz in my pants and when it finished I was screaming play it again, play it AGAIN and my buddy says. Dude wait till you hear side 1!!! :o


"Over the mountain", "Flying High Again", You cant kill R&R,,,, Believer!! Ya I have bin a lifer ever since. All Ozzy! Sabbath! I can honestly say from the very first note I ever heard, I have been spellbound by the Prince of Darkness. 37 years later he is still pretty much all I listen to, with some Maiden, Priest and Zepplin splashed in to shake things up. Some Godsmack once in awhile to bring me a little closer to the millennium.


I thank the rock gods every day that I found him when I was so young. I'll never forget that moment as long as I live. I still remember what the room looked like when I first heard him and I am still friends with that chick (Tracey). God bless Ozzy and every musician who ever played with him, he only ever has the best! Especially Randy! I get very emotional when I hear his playing and I fantasize about what else they would have created had they had the chance. I mostly listen to old Sabbath now (for about the past 15 years,) the whole band are basically freaks of nature, but when I go Ozzy solo it is definitely D.O.A.M

Of all the tracks on this insanely good album, this sleeper is the one I love best. Even Over The Mountain doesn't top it for me - and that's saying something. Randy's chops are just huge and savage here. He gets so much feeling out of the relatively simple riffs, squealing at all the right spots. And Ozzy's lyrics are poignant and thought provoking. Not an overly complicated song, but a truly great one. Those thundering drums at opening and that first slide down power chord are just massive. And it only gets better from there!! A real ass-kicker.

Gotta make a comment , this year of diary and zeppelins the song remains the same..as a friend gave to me, pivotal yet fuck yeah n a party sense, 13.. just made sense, i leapt off this as a musician. Haven't looked back, only to listen. Masters.

I think Diary Is just a bit edgier than Blizzard. Love them both.. Can you imagine another Ozzy w/ Randy after this that would have prob came out in '83 /84 ? If Randy would not have passed...

I totally agree. Fucking small aircraft...damn them to hell. Stevie Ray Vaughan, Ronnie Van Zant, Big Bopper, Rich Valens, and Buddy Holly. They've taken so many from us. And possibly worst of all...Randy Rhoads. He was just getting warmed up. Little shrimp was way just leagues ahead of most. Such a classy player too. Beautiful or beastly...he could play it all.
