Owens, Buck - Sam's Place Lyrics

There's a place down the street we call Sam's Place.
It starts a-jumpin' every evening when the sun goes down.
You can always find me down at Sam's Place,
For that's where the gang all hangs around.

There's ol' Shimmy Shakin' Tina
She hails from Pasadena.
She always got a big smile on her face.
There's Hootch-y-kootchy Hattie, she comes from Cincinnati,
Yeah, there's always a party at Sam's Place.

Well, they've got a swingin' band down at Sam's Place.
You can hear 'em pickin' twenty blocks away.
They're playin' country music down at Sam's Place,
From the setting sun until the break of day.

There's ol' Shimmy Shakin' Tina
She hails from Pasadena.
She always got a big smile on her face.
There's Hootch-y-kootchy Hattie, she comes from Cincinnati,
Yeah, there's always a party at Sam's Place.

And I'll meet you tonight at Sam's Place.

MERLE HAGGARD on Bass guitar, a founding member of the Buckaroos.

@Dan Garrison Yes, and they were in fact known as the Buckaroos. 1962 or 1963 was when they took on the name Buckaroos. Willie Cantu came along in 1964.

Vintage1976 im not going to argue with you, i guess The Crystal Palace manager is wrong ,but i would like to know your source. Either way, the " Classic" line up as you call them were the best, after Don died, the Backaroos died too my opinion

    A.... P....

@Dan Garrison Agreed, but, please check out the book "Buck 'Em!"

@Dan Garrison Thanks for your message Dan, Merle can be seen in this video playing bass, google is my source but that's Merle on Bass standing left rear in this video. His appearance on the Johnny Cash show helped elevate him in the media of those times as a solo artist ajd songwriter. Cheers mate Azza from Australia. his eldest son sounds a lot like him and his youngest son plays I think his fathers guitar, good lead player and sounds like his daddy

    A.... P....

Azza Paterson that sure looks like Wayne Wilson on bass

Buck and Don were never billed as a duo, but they really were. The two of them together is country magic.

On this day in 1967 {April 9th} "Sam's Place" by Buck Owens and the Buckaroos entered Billboard's Top 100 chart at position #97, the following week it peaked at #92 and that was also it's second and final week on the Top 100...
"Sam's Place" did a whole lot better on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart, for it was the thirteenth in a string of fourteen consecutive #1 records by Buck and boys...
Between 1959 and 1988 the Sherman, Texas native had eighty-nine records on the Hot Country Singles chart, forty-seven made the Top 10 with twenty-one reaching #1, in addition he had seven 'just misses' when seven of his records peaked at #2...
Ten of his charted records were duets; six with Susan Raye, two with Rose Maddox, and one each with Buddy Alan and Dwight Yoaham...
Buck Owens, born Alvis Edgar Owens Jr., passed away at the age of 76 on March 25th, 2006...
    May he R.I.P.

I just love Buck Owens but Don Rich has to be the coolest looking guy, sort of 1960s FBI/NASA dude they both look as if they're doing it for the music not the money .

One of the "Buckaroos" best songs. The "Buckaroo" sound. Buck, Don Rich, Doyle Holly, Willie Cantu on drums, Tom Brumley on steel. Nothing today comes close!
