Osborne, Joan - Crazy Baby Lyrics

And your hands are really shakin something awful
As you light your 27th cigarette
Oh how long have you been sittin in the darkness
You forget
Oh you know you're gettin really hard to be with
And you're cryin every time you turn around
And you wonder why you can not pick your head up
Off the ground

Oh my crazy baby
Try to hold on tight
Oh my crazy baby
Don't put out the light, the light,
the light, the light

And they look at you like they don't speak your language
And you're living at the bottom of a well
And you swallowed all the awful bloody secrets
That you can't tell
Oh you know you ought to get yourself together
But you can not bear to walk outside your door
No, you can not bear to look into the mirror
Anymore, anymore

Oh my crazy baby
Try to hold on tight
Oh my crazy baby
Don't put out the light, the light,
the light, the light

And your hands are really shakin something awful
As your worries crawl around inside your clothes
Ooh how long will you be sittin in the darkness
Heaven knows

Oh my crazy baby
Try to hold on tight
Oh my crazy baby
Don't put out the light, the light,
the light, the light, the light,
the light, the light, the light,
the light, the light

This Song is Me, thank God for Nicotine Gum though. I heard this song and it freaked me out. I guess there are others Like me after all. What is amazing is that a Women cares enough to see.  It is rare that so many Great songs came from one album.   This Lady made wonderful music.

  2. R.... A....

I wrote 27 cigarettes on my backpack next to NOFX and pennywise lol

  3. B.... B....

This is my brother’s favorite song of hers.

  4. h.... ....

Anyone having been here, either as the smoker or the one asking, no doubt has a great appreciation of this uplifting and melancholy song. I found it at the time it was needed. I come back and still say Wow and Thanks.

  5. B.... E....

Thank God for her Music. IT dragged me right out of confusion and angst and derpession I had for ten years. Be patient Joan and God will come Your way and you may be His child. "Nothing else matters". GBU forever. Jesus bless you too. May Most Holy Virgin Mary never foraske you in any way. :)

  6. J.... A....

One of the best artist of all times. This particular song struck me because it is me. I am just surprised any woman would notice and that there others like me.    What a wonderful album. I listened to it since 1995. at least four more of her songs should have been hits.

  7. H.... W....

The best (and most heartbreakingly accurate) song about depression ever.

  8. U.... S....

    😎 2019

  9. J.... W....

This is one of the best songs ever. Depression exteralized. Great view

What if god was one of us....at the bottom of my list of favorites on this album....this album is packed!!!!!

  13. S.... H....

    😍🤗🖤🖤🖤

  14. r.... ....

Seen Joan at the Louisville Palace way back in 1995. One of the best concerts I’ve been to, Joan is incredible live.

  15. M.... N....

55 viewers disliked that this song is only 6 minutes and 37 seconds long!

  23. J.... M....

this is a chill drinking song....

  24. M.... D....

    Lindo tema

  25. J.... S....

I feel like Joan Osbourne would be a household name if she didn’t release what if god was one of us as her first single. That song ruined her, the rest of this album is just pure art.

    J.... S....

    I agree, totally.

    J.... S....

Disagree. Without that one, with my love and respect for her and the songs of this album, we'd not know her even to the extent we do now

    J.... S....

I mean maybe she's not totally a household name, but the songvin question is a ,household song, if you will. At karaokes in particular, you can hear it pretty often, so clearly people know both the tune and the artist

  26. e.... ....

    Sobriety

    mine too...🙂

  37. L.... S....

There just isn't music like this anymore. It makes me so sad.

  38. M.... S....

I had the great pleasure of seeing her perform at Winter Park Colorado one summer. She blew me away with that voice of hers. So excellent.

  39. S.... A....

    LOVE this girl!

  40. E.... A....

My dad introduced me to this song. I miss him dearly, especially when life gets rough. :'(

    E.... A....

Perhaps he was trying to save you from, "....putting out the light". It looks like it worked. God bless your dad.

  41. G.... P....

We all want to die sometime. My time was in Fairbanks, Alaska in 1997 in February, -40F, sitting in the parking lot at midnight preparing to attend Compline with the Rector and the Janitor but I resisted. There is a mysterious thing about chanting in the cold far from home late in the night. I'm not sure but I think it builds courage. This is one of the songs I listened to sitting in the parking lot with the truck engine running, waiting for the chapel to open and it certainly didn't deepen my depression. I still remember clearly that cold Saturday evening 20 years ago.

    G.... P....

Glen Plumlee thank you for sharing

  42. T.... G....

I had the good fortune to see her live years ago. She is just amazing. I wish she still recorded.

    T.... G....

She most certainly is still recording.

  43. A.... D....

    💙💛💚 love this song!!!

  44. L.... D....

This woman is phenomenal. In my next life, I would like to sing as expressively as she does.

    L.... D....

    Lisa Dryman-Rice
I just hope I can hear it in the next life

  45. R.... T....

used to cover this. god the reponse.

  46. T.... M....

This song got me through a very hard period of my life. I was a victim of domestic violence and sexual abuse. When this song came out I had finally disclosed because I had gotten arrested for something he was doing. This was 1995. Unfortunately, i didn't get out till 12-12-12. But, I did get out and this song comforted me at that time.

    T.... M....

    Hope Life is Good Now.

  47. C.... G....

get home from the bar at 2:30 am pop 6 speeders and im good till 8:00 am with this album

  48. D.... S....

    fantastic, I love her voice

  49. T.... P....

i always come back to this song when im having a double depression, even though its not a 'happy' song.. it still helps me, cos it doesn't make me feel like im the only one who is going through this

    T.... P....

haha, i have to completely agree with you sister, I still have my old memories from the past that linger in my mind and that have left a mark on my soul aka brain. I also have been through something similar as well too when I hit puberty. Now I am 29 years old and the only way to "forget" about my pain is to listen to my favorite songs and then I am over it. I hope this comment has been of some use to you. Keep strong, no matter what.

    T.... P....

    You're not

    T.... P....

You and me both. I think it is the expression of the sadness that gives us a glimpse as to how we are. Those feelings are just so hard to face, yet the damage they do is clearly in sight. I have come back this song many, many a time.
It's here for you, keep it here.

    T.... P....

I'll join you in that... just heard this recently... now it is a staple...

  50. f.... w....

Not many people know this, but Joan Osborne used to be a professional wrestler under the name "El Gata". At the peak of her career, she was injured when Hulk Hogan nailed her with a metal folding chair. Notice how she favors her left leg. The sad part is that her "Super-destroyer Sleeper Hold" has never been duplicated by any other wrestler.

    f.... w....

More importantly, what does your fake news have to do with this beautiful, funky song?

    f.... w....

lol guys he's just kidding, relax a little, jeez...

    f.... w....

The funniest was when El Gata grabbed flor wast in the balls & ripped them off & fed them to him. He now identifies as a woman. Classic !!!

    f.... w....

WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! tHAT IS SO DAMN AWESOME THATS WHY I LIKE THIS CHICK SO DANG MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  51. K.... B....

If I had to pick, 5 ´desert island´ albums, Relish, would be one of them. Pure genius album.

  52. D.... ....

    D.... ....

DawgPound86 oh fuck yeah it was

    D.... ....

I'm pretty sure I still owe Columbia House Records $12.99 for the copy I had. Oops.

    D.... ....

    Don't we all? LOL.

    D.... ....

    lol fuck Columbia house,

  53. s.... ....

I actually found this song today by complete accident.  What a happy accident.

    s.... ....

+spicenug Me, as well. Must be a day of good fortune.

    s.... ....

    @Michael Hardin Must be.

  54. T.... M....

i have been searching for this song...i could not remember the name. It could have been written about me. i spent 24 years in Hell. Same sex relationship, she was controlling and everything was my fault. Her much older brother sexually abused me throughout as well as pimping me out to his friends. I got outv12-12-12. I do not know where i found the courage, but i did. I am now with a real man who loves me. If i had stayed i would' ve dead by now.

    T.... M....

Teri Maine bless you. I hope you are healing and growing and healing and prospering!

  55. A.... S....

  61. T.... H....

My favorite song off the CD.  Kick-Ass.

  62. K.... ....

How is it this lady isn't a national sensation?  I have never heard this song till right now and it's fabulous.

    K.... ....

+Shandy Marie I just heard Hozier and completely agree with you sentiment.

Secondly, I suggest going to open mic's and what not. TONS of very raw, un-fame-loving music that's fresh. Plus, you get to talk to the musicians too.

    K.... ....

K6III450MHZ i say the same thing

    K.... ....

She was back in the day. Her ,one of us, was like the biggest hit of 95 or something(by the way that song isn't hers but was given to her by one of her bandmates). She was even sort of sympathetically mocked by Mike Myers in the role of Dr Evil. I think sadly she kinda failed to replicate the level she reached on Relish, so formally she's a one hit wonder though all songs from it, covers and originals, were great. Her version of Dylan's man in long black coat is the one I heard first and consider it clearly best, way better than both the original and ELP ones, and I love ELP!

    K.... ....

    She is.

    K.... ....

She may have been mocked over one song. But she had pipes. One of the best. Tell me who could out do her.

  63. T.... K....

Thanks. Telling it like it is. OK to love a person with problems.

  64. m.... ....

This is such a hauntingly beautiful song about such a depressing subject - suicide.

    m.... ....

why Is it about suicide? I wonder. Depression is one thing. Yet Actually ending your own life. I do not relate. Too optimistic in my nature. Could not/ would not do it. Please don't:)

    m.... ....

    why not?

    m.... ....

The other portion is with regards to those having to live with those having it.
