Orton, Beth - She Cries Your Name Lyrics

Falling from the western slopes to find yourself alone again
Wonderin' where you have been
Your lonely voice calls across the starlit coast
Reaching out to be seen

She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?

Scratch beneath the surface screen of what we say and what we see
Is there truth to be seen?
She's cryin' out your name
But her scream sounds the same
How fickle fate can be

She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?

Birds which scream for territory can learn to sing euphorically
Given time that is real
There's a wasteland in his soul
The burned out trees will leave you cold
Living out beside the hill

She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?

She cries your name
Three times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?

She cries your name
Twelve times again
She cries your name
How long can this love remain?

Orton, Beth She Cries Your Name Comments
  1. H.... ....

Ah, she reworked this song from the her actual album/EP/whatever it was

  2. N.... W....

Sad to see the news of Andrew Wetherhall passing away. Why not Trump, or Boris? Talented producer and DJ - did a great job on this album. You will be missed, thanks for all the wonderful music.

  3. s.... d....

    This album is pure gold.

  4. R.... J....

Dear Beth Orton, thank you for this masterpiece ❤️

  5. J.... N....

I first heard this song in '97, loved it and was intrigued but didn't know whose it was. It was good to hear folk music back then (and now) but it's hard to think of it ever sounding quite like this before. Love Orton's voice; her guitar; the lyrics; the eerie, haunting intro and fade at the end. Perfect video for the song, which I think is one of a kind.

  6. s.... ....

What a great song! The whole thing is great and the cellist - original and lovely

  7. S.... G....

    Outstanding ... ♥♥♥

  8. L.... W....

She should have been a lot bigger because there are a lot of good songs in her catalogue. Even larger-than-life talent can disappear in the music business. This made me think of other women that deserved more attention at that time, like Lida Husik and Barbara Manning.

  9. p.... b....

    great song and great video

  10. E.... l....

Wow, es increíble lo mucho que se parece a la hermosa actriz Jenifer Aguter! 😍

  11. A.... N....

As always. She has banged it again. How is she NOT a global star with her music and everything. It's top!!!!

  12. m.... ....

    Annoying voice

2019 still here being all moody.

    N.... J....

What a beautiful song. A masterpiece ❤️! When I hear something from Ed Sheeran, Cardi B or Adele, I get an earache, and I think 'How can this crap really be popular?'

  16. R.... J....

This song is like a surreal dream😍. Who played the violin?

  17. R.... S....

Is she crying out the name Ryan??

  18. J.... D....

I want to hear you sing

  19. M.... P....

I heard William Orbit's Version from 'Strange Cargo-Hinterland' Album

  25. A.... D....

I was four when this was released, yet it still gives me a sense of nostalgia, almost as if I heard it as a child and the memory's buried in my subconscious somewhere. I only heard it on the radio the other day and thought it was beautiful.

    A.... D....

I'm old but love it 🙌

  26. M.... O....

My cat miaowed at me when I got home from work, and I started singing this song at her :) and now we're both enjoying your lovely song I nearly forgot about :) Thanks Beth x

  27. h.... ....

She can't help being In your face voice over 3 Desert heat

  28. I.... s....

I always thought she was an american southern singer, but she's English.

  29. C.... H....

Discoverd Beth Orton on that track she sang for the Chemical Brothers. The name stuck but somehow I could not find her albums. Now it's 2019 and I stumbled upon a used CD of "Trailer Park" at my record store on Record Store Day. I hesitated to buy it at first but I eventually did. And now I'm so happy with my decision. I like how she retains elements of electronic music and mixes it with her haunting folksy voice.

  34. K.... g....

I am 10 years old . This music 10 years old too

  35. S.... C....

Finally dawned on me who the Canadian singer songwriter Abigail Lapell reminds me of. Abigail is brilliant in her own right but I'd say she's listened quite a bit to Beth Orton.

  36. E.... W....

This one is very Dave Matthewsesque!

  37. L.... C....

I’m worried that sitting in that old, beat up recliner is going to give her tetanus. 😳

  38. J.... K....

This ages well. Strange to think it's 22 years old.

  39. Q.... H....

I love the orchestration here! Her voice balances feelings of steadiness and fluidity, being undeniably accurate yet open to the listeners' interpretations

    Q.... H....

    Very well said.

  47. p.... d....

Beth Orton and Hope Sandoval. The two most underappreciated 90s music hotties!

  48. V.... C....

i kinda like the ordinariness (the trailer, the denim skirt) of the video clip. It's seems to aspire to something relatable or attainable. When musicians might fall into excess (exaggerated emotion...), artifice (exaggerated style) or have an ego inflating audience address, some small storytelling that has the humility to be a little mundane is much appreciated. And the pop sensibility gently undercuts being too serious, without being choking.

  49. K.... D....

lovely song and voice, stylish video too..like a spaghetti western

  50. S.... M....

    Wicked Lovely

  51. n.... ....

Those freckles of hers still get me every time

  52. H.... H....

Trailer Park is one of the greatest albums ever. One of my all time favorites.

  53. N.... M....

Very, Very cool Beth,.. Luv - it - Inside & out. : ) - Keep doing this stuff (Please.) - I Love It. & I'm sure - everyone else after us will as well.

  54. A.... ....

    Looks like the Oklahoma panhandle!

  59. H.... E....

You know this girl is 6”4’ right?

  60. g.... ....

Can't believe this song did not make it bigger ..just incredible how such a great tune and such a great talent did not and is not getting the proper recognition while a lot of stupid inane and just horrible music is getting all the acclaim.
This is a real masterpiece.. it never gets old like a true classic .

  61. r.... w....

Wow. I just heard her of 89.3 TheCurrent.org MPR .

  62. t.... ....

    Timeless :)

  63. x.... ....

Beth Orton is timeless. This song shines even after more than 20 years!

  64. R.... M....

This is typical female stuff--start with  little or no makeup, loose hair, extremely desirable to men. But then "Holly-Wooded" -- dyed hair and styled, plenty makeup, ho hum clone. Sorry kiddo. the Radman

  65. s.... ....

I heard part of this on the Top Gear Botswana special and had to find out the source. I never knew it was an actual song, I thought it was just instrumental music. What a pleasant discovery.

  66. H.... R....

Beth, you're Heart Chakra True.... after all these years, wow how it resonates. You are and have been amazing. Namaste sweet one; Namaste -John Galt's Hank

  67. M.... P....

I can't believe this haunting beautiful voice! Along side of that that deep south music....but of course she's British! They always seem to capture the sultry south almost better than the southerners do!

  87. J.... E....

VERY avant-garde for a late 90s vid💗😎😎💗 never saw it till now but known about Beth since RS featured her late 90's along with Buffalo Daughter, Jon Brion, Wondermints, OTHERS pretty much far away from commercial pre YouTube/iTunes saturation!

Saw her LIVE 2002💗🤘💗 best $17 spent that summer by LIGHTYEARS!

    J.... E....

MTV, Viva2 or MCM used to pour far more avant-garde songs and videos in the 90's. Most of them sadly fell into oblivion.

  88. T.... L....

    72, tone-deaf, musical-morons.....

    T.... L....

Whoever disliked this should be pistol-whipped.
