Orchestral Manoeuvres In The Dark - The Native Daughters Of The Golden West Lyrics
In ecstasy they cry to know
If their parents love will let them grow
Their mother's pridetheir father's joy
We thank the stars that they're not boys
The native daughters of the golden west
As children do they stayed at home
Waiting for the day that they were grown
The future seemed so far away
But every night they'd kneel and pray
But all in all they did their best
And one by one they left the nest
Across the globe they searched for love
And put their faith in God above
The native daughters of the golden west
They're made out of light
We never would have guessed
So by and by their dreams came true they fell in love with boys they knew
Their children grew fed from the breast
Of the native daughters of the golden west
The native daughters of the golden west
They talk all day
But we were not impressed
The native daughters of the golden west
They're sisters of mercy
They'll grant your last request

Great song! Not-so-great video.
Love you Mally :)
Great song, terrible video.
Oooh, full-frontal video of a naked SSL 4000G mixing desk... love those mechanical VU meters... Beyer DT100 cans... Neumann U87 vocal mic... horny!
Maybe I'm nuts, but I always kinda thought this was their aural expression of America. Not unlike Rattle and Hum, where before the music was sometimes about a culture, but not of it, not coming out. I feel even the fullness, expanse was bigger. I'd be happy for the lads to correct me over dinner one day! They were just so good at moving forward.
I like your interpretation of this! And yes they’re so good at moving forward because they were always experimenting—never afraid or pressured to conform, imo
Thanks Lisa. I was trying to make sense of it anyway. Good luck out there. ☺️
Much appreciated thanks :) x
Wish they would release crush on dvd for the 40th anniversary
One of my top favourites by the group: dark, evocative, eminently suggestive.
Quintessential OMD
Probably my favorite song from OMD. I miss the songs.
you want to learn how to sing? take a lesson from this fella
LOUDER!
wooooooow absolutely
Love this song! But it's much creepier listening to it with eyes closed and not watching them in the studio.
remember them doing this at hammersmith odeon when the album came out.. sounded massive.
This has always been in my top 5 OMD songs!
Glad to see other fans love it as much as I do. This is one of their darkest songs by far.
I love OMD but was never quite sure what to make of Crush, It almost sounds like its stuck and confused. Having said that I like most of the tracks on the album.
even OMD’s experimental stuff sounds fantastic. When I listen to these tracks i think of them like a primer for their more beautiful ones— can’t have one without the other
this is one of my stripper songs...when i become a stripper
I haven't been to one of "those" places in a million years, but I would go just to see someone strip to OMD LOL... "Universal" might be a good song choice as well...
kaydaw24
Paint stripper?
What keeps you from becoming it?
Love the song.
Native daughters of the golden west.. they talked all day, but we were not impressed!
Lagu yang unik dan enak didengar... Unique and good to hear.
What's Andy doing, starting around the 0:25 second mark. telling the guys to adjust his volume? is it a funny sign to the camera? kinda weird. This song is just superb
He was not happy with the audio through the headphones.
Bump the audio up in the earphones...
... they eventually ramp it up so loud he shits himself :D
Lovciaaa
Love this tune !!
Sad I know ,but I cant stop playing this track.I now have "Crush",so I can play it in the car and lorry aswell...........What a track.
This is the first time I have heard this, wow what a great tune.Good ol, OMD.
mein absoluter lieblings track von "Crush"
Ooops, sorry to post twice ----
Was always fascinated with this song and video..... long before we had internet and if you could afford a VCR.. I had to rent one to see the CRUSH video-- world's longest held note ????
+Allen Blaine Yes same me, i have that video but no VCR anymore haha
Nah I believe that distinction belongs to the lead singer of Manowar.
This is the only OMD record I really like.. funny how it's looked at as one of their worst. What the hell? Some of the plinkity plink synth stuff on the other stuff just bugs me. This record was epic.
'Flame of Hope' is #1 on my Live OMD Wishlist!
It's awful to think that the band are ashamed of 'Crush'! It's not their strongest, by any means, but it's nothing to be ashamed of! Please don't tell me they feel the same way about 'The Pacific Age' - it's a fantastic album and my own personal favourite. :-(
CRUSH is the only OMD album I always go back to for a listen. Timeless.
I understand that Andy does not like this album .. Certe it is good but It does not look like at OMD, the "New Wave" was put aside... :/
tiré de l'album ' crush ' , qui est pou moi le meilleur album d'OMD !!! , les autres , sont trés bien , mais ils n'ont pas la profondeur musical de cet album !!
What an amazing feat from Andy on this track, simply amazing how he stretches his voice to the limit! It's undoubtedly one of the songs from OMD that could almost be qualified as "rock", alongside 88 seconds. Just goes to show how much underrated OMD is - who knows this band truly, apart from "Electricity" or "Enola Gay"? So sad that they are remembered by just these songs, albeit excellent and justified hits, they made so much more incredible material.
their music is being dominated by bigger generalisations about music and genres, the mythical birth of nationalistic futuristic synth pioneers etc. But they did a whole lot of very cool things, this album, junk culture, pacific age seem more succinct and broader in their range than dazzle ships and the earlier ones.
Really? Andy said he doesn't like this Album? It's one of my favorites OMD albums. maybe he meant that it's straining on his voice to perform this number and 88 seconds... live?
Criminally underrated! Chill inducing when Andy holds that note at the end. Too bad the band is ashamed of this album and will never reissue it. I asked them personally in 2010, and they said maybe 'Junk Culture' will get reissued, but not 'Crush' or 'The Pacific Age'. :(
My favorite OMD album by far...
@whitejellyfungus I used to play this in my Goth/Deathrock sets all the time. i should really drop it again sometime soon.
This is by far my favorite OMD song!
they are at their best when they rock.
This song simply rocks, imagine it will in 20 more years too. Wish we would hear less 'hits' on their tour setlist and more artistic gems like this...also on my wish list would be: Bloc Bloc Bloc, 88 Sec, The Dead Girls, Flame of Hope, Lights are going out, We love you...sure I'm forgetting others.... Cheers from Washington DC!
Chill inducing....definitely holds up after all these years...gees...what visionaries
probably my favorite song form OMD. Wish I could find the chord progression from this song.
Loved how it segued from "88 Seconds in Greensboro".
Very 80's "Goth" sounding. Crush was a very good but very Bi-Polar album. Meaning mood and musical styles were all over the map on this album. I always loved the segue from 88 seconds into this song when I was a young goth/punk/waver kid back in the 80's.
Great song, it just doesn't sound like your typical new wave song ;), there's just an air about it...
Brilliant! I love the segue from 88 seconds to Native Daughters... gives me chills! even to this day... its timeless...
