Opeth - Windowpane Lyrics

Blank face in the windowpane
Made clear in seconds of light
Disappears and returns again
Counting hours, searching the night

Might be waiting for someone
Might be there for us to see
Might be in need of talking
Might be staring directly at me

Inside plays a lullaby
Slurred voice over children cries
On the inside

Haunting loneliness in the eye
Skin covering a secret scar
His hand is waving a goodbye
There's no response or action returned

There is deep prejudice in me
Outshines all reason inside
Given dreams all ridden with pain
And projected unto the last

I cant seem to find another Opeth song I like, but this is in my top songs of all time if I were to make a list. Anyone got any other suggestions by these guys?

4:36 makes me cry every single time

  11. Y.... M....

That solo and keyboard stuff <3

  12. A.... A....

I wish i can listen and feel this song again for the first time

  13. A.... P....

4:36 That solo is just absolutely gorgeous. That's how I feel guitar solos should be - it's a deviation from the main riffs but staying faithful to the tune, it's not just a minute of noise that sounds like a cat being strangled that comes completely out of nowhere and is just wedged into the tune

  14. U.... B....

wtf people saying this is brutal, this is the most boring shit i've heard

    U.... B....

    İts a joke duh

    U.... B....

if this is boring to you, you have no taste in music.

  15. G.... D....

As a drummer, I can definitely say that the snare ghost notes absolutely kill me

  16. A.... C....

Thanks for keeping me depressed guys :) really appreciate it

  17. M.... B....

THE BEST SONG OF ALL TIME

    M.... B....

Keep listening to their other songs

  18. A.... t....

Don't know if anyone has ever read Other Voices, Other Rooms but this song not only recreates the atmosphere of it to the point of having a spooky synergy(especially relating to the"queer lady"who is viewed through an attic window by a delirious protagonist)

  19. L.... S....

Martin was a master on the drums...this line up was awesome.

  20. A.... M....

    T'Challa

  21. .... ....

Thanks to this song I recognized this amazing band

  22. S.... S....

I play the Blackwater Park album starting with bleak whenever I start working on critical cases (work) ! I <3 Opeth

  23. E.... L....

I never understood the appeal for this band

    E.... L....

    It's a very unique band

    E.... L....

This is their softest prog rock album (it's beautiful but not the best representation of the band's other work), what makes them unique is how they fused Death Metal with Progressive Rock/Metal and Jazz.

And the appeal comes from Mikael's amazing songwriting, remove all the gimmicks and the songs would still work, for example; if an Opeth song was performed on a single piano, or a string quartet, or a classical nylon guitar, or 9 cellos (search on YouTube "Harvest for 9 cellos") it would still sound amazing and musically complex.

  24. V.... M....

this song reminds me of time when i died!

    V.... M....

    Yeah totally lol

  25. A.... O....

  27. F.... ....

A hard rock/heavy metal fan my entire life, I can't stand that guttural shit that is death metal so bands that deliver that don't get my attention. I heard a super heavy Opeth song with melodic lyrics, cant remember which one at the moment, but it intrigued me so I then found this song and I'm completwly blown away.

    F.... ....

    Wtf are "melodic lyrics"??

    F.... ....

@Rayene Boussetta - It's the words and sounds that your dirty whore mother makes when you are screwing her in the ass every night.

    F.... ....

@Fucknuts maybe it was Harlequin forest.

  28. M.... C....

    ¡Obra maestra!

  29. A.... ....

  52. T.... B....

Hey I got an idea...If you don't like the direction Opeth is heading may I suggest you STFU make an album of the kind of music your narrow mind THINKS Opeth owes you and we will collectively rip it to shreads because it sucks.

  53. S.... ....

wish the vinyl wasn't 238 dollars lol

    S.... ....

    Holy shit

  54. L.... B....

Just tell me why is it brutal ?? Its not at all.

    L.... B....

They're just joking, and that flew over your head.

    L.... B....

bruh, opeth has played basically all subgenres of rock & metal

  55. D.... S....

Awesome! Especially the first 30 seconds feel like a fusion jazz band.

Damnation is a place where the people know one thing, "not."

  64. M.... E....

Notice : If you think Opeth music style just Death Metal so you are wrong their music mix [ Death Metal And progressive rock] For that reason they are unique.

  65. A.... S....

Love the guitar near the middle of the song awesome Visuals

  66. K.... R....

Everything on that cd is absolutely awesome but this is my favorite. I had never heard of them till I heard this song. Some of their other stuff I wasn’t that impressed with but I love this one.

This album is brutally gentle, and slowly it destroys you in the process.

  71. b.... ....

    this is good stuff

  72. g.... ....

If you play this album in reverse you'll get the most brutal album opeth has ever concieved. It even puts pornogrind bands to shame.

  76. v.... ....

I've been a fan of opeth since I bought watershed, and I've heard the newer albums but am slow getting to their earlier stuff. First time listening to this, and I already have so many emotions welling up inside

    v.... ....

If you like Watershed you need Ghost reveries and Blackwater Park

  77. N.... S....

this album beats the shit out of ghost reveries, and i love death metal

  78. J.... T....

  83. D.... M....

    THERE'S NO RESPONSE ERECTION RETURNED

  84. K.... R....

I’m from the great old blessed hippie days with the ONLY great music there will ever ever be, and I have very few bands that I like since then and this is definitely one of them. I love every single thing on Damnation, tho some of their other music I wasn’t to crazy about. Alice In Chains I LOVE every single thing they’ve ever done

    K.... R....

Opeth's cover of Would is really good. Btw if you're an AIC fan, give Jerry Cantrell's solo albums a listen. Boggy Depot and Degradation Trip vol 1 and 2 are great (if you haven't already heard them.)

    K.... R....

    die hippie die

  85. P.... ....

    Criminally underrated.

  86. K.... T....

2:47 is one of my favourite Opeth moments, so haunting and beautiful <3

  87. L.... D....

    ILOOOOVEEITT

  88. D.... ....

Martin Lopez's drumwork on this album is definitely among the finest in Opeth's discography!

  89. O.... s....

    let me tell you all
That this is the best song of opeth.

  90. J.... G....

Your full album playlist is in the wrong order.

  91. c.... ....

    hiçliğin sesi

  92. W.... ....

    What a guitar!

  93. P.... ....

I was searching for Mild High Club version, found this. Didn't disappoint...

  94. B.... S....

I had to comment on this song. I remember the first time I heard it, it was on a juggling video back when I was trying to get into juggling. Found the actual song and listened to it, jaw dropped, for the entirety of the song. Probably played it around 10 times that day. It's been almost a year, this is still one of my favorite songs. It is absolutely beautiful. The guitar, the orchestra, the voices, and of course Akerfeldt. His voice is like an angel. The whole album is really well done, I like almost all the songs off of it, which is rare for me. Not a fan of Opeth's other stuff except for Harvest and Burden and stuff like that. Well done Opeth.

  95. P.... P....

    This song is a lulluby.

  96. g.... ....

This album was my playlist for reading Neil Gaiman's Sandman... its like finding some of the chapters of the comicbook turned into music. In particular when I listen to "Death wispered a lullaby"... the title and the reference to the shifting sands... it gives me the chills down my spine... Awesome music!!

  97. K.... R....

    3:37 😍

  98. O.... S....

This album is definitely influenced by "Camel"
