Opeth - Pyre Lyrics

Follow the embers
into cities of dreams
What you'll be seeing
Is not all what it seems

Dawn of the liar
Future's a pyre

Outside the window I see people passing by
If they could see me now they'd break down and cry
Familiar voices beat behind the wall of sleep
I wish this beating would so reveal the love I keep

Lock down your senses
Await the grating beyond
And in the morning
This darkness will trail along

Born as a failure
And died as a stranger

And your country's bleeding while you're forced to mourn

Outside the window I see people passing by
If they could see me now they'd break down and cry
Familiar voices beat behind the wall of sleep
I wish this beating would so reveal the love I keep

Bring me back again

This should be on the standard version.

  6. T.... F....

    Vibe Progressive!enjoy

  7. C.... ....

I bought this album when it came out, and NOW I find out, there's an edition with two awesome bonus tracks?! aaaarrrrhhhgg!!!

  8. p.... f....

    Perfect song ♥

  9. I.... Y....

everything about this song is beautiful, especially the guitar solo... its out of this universe.

  10. B.... K....

One of their best post-Ghost Reveries songs, so much beauty throughout this whole album!

  11. A.... P....

So relaxing. It gives me a feeling of Maurice Ravel's bolero. :)

  12. M.... ....

the drum timing change/fill @1:48....very very simple, but when drummers think to do something like that....unreal. whole song is basically perfect.

    M.... ....

Axe is endlessly creative, and his percussion on Heritage & PC is some of the finest ever recorded

    M.... ....

Axe is on serious form in this album.

    M.... ....

I guess they did it on purpose and put on the record to start an argument about why did they do that

  13. b.... ....

This song is awesome but it suffers from the same problem that Opeth have had in their last couple of albums. Mikael's over-singing. It just doesn't suit the music and sounds grating. I wish he would go back to the vocal stylings of songs like Benighted and Face of Melinda.

    b.... ....

    It fits perfectly tbh

    b.... ....

baldymort10 There are instances where I'd agree with you on that, but this song is not one of those.

    b.... ....

Have you ever heard him singing Soldier of Fortune (bonus track) .. It's a shame to want to lock up is voice line type

    b.... ....

His singing was weak back then though. You can hear the difference in power. It's stark

  14. C.... L....

If this track and Face in the Snow were put in place of Famine and Nepenthe, I think Heritage would've been a better album overall. Still a damn good album nonetheless.

  15. m.... w....

Hard not to be disappointed that my copy doesn't have this track :/ fuck

    m.... w....

+matt w and your copy doesnt have Face In The snow only the Deluxe edition has these two amazing tacks =(

  16. J.... a....

I wish the guitar solo would be much longer!!! i can't stop enjoying it

  17. J.... a....

    BEST. ALBUM. EVER.

  18. M.... D....

    So lush

    M.... D....

Heritage may not be my favorite Opeth album, but damn, the production quality is top notch.

  19. M.... R....

Seems like Heritage was better and took more risks than Pale Communion. I like both of them, but Heritage seems to be a lot more interesting to me.

    M.... R....

    @Madhusudan Raman YEP!

    M.... R....

Everything about Heritage is incredible for me, I never quite understood all the hate. It's a really, REALLY solid modern day progressive rock album.
Mikael Akerfeldt proves to be a very gifted musician.

  20. Y.... E....

pure drug for me the only one i need pure authentic music , travelling so far without moving once again
i must see them live if they re still existing

  21. G.... Y....

that s why i made tattoo of these guys

    G.... Y....

Sanki şarkının başındaki melodi bi Türk anadolu rock şarkısına benziyor ama hangisi bulamadım. Cem Karaca veya Barış Manço şarkısı olabilir. Hani Nığ nığ nınınığ nı nığ diyor ya işte o nınınığ kısmı.

    G.... Y....

Sanırım bahsettiğim şarkı Moğollar - Devlerin Aşkı.

  22. s.... m....

I love you guys. I can comfortably say they're my #1. I love you opeth. PS heritage was so sick. Fuck all you haters in your butts.

  23. A.... C....

I just had an eargasm, maan...

  24. S.... ....

Unlike some, I will be motivated into listening to more Opeth by putting out songs like this and migrating away from predictable metal. Metal is fine, when you're in the mood. Progressive and open more ambient, thematically driven music is what truly fills up the senses. You don't seek this type of tune out in the playlist consciously. It sort of seeks you out. It must have for me because I have no idea how I got to this vid or what made me play it.

    S.... ....

    SouthOCmixdown law of attraction

    S.... ....

You are so true man...this is what i wanted to write

  25. p.... n....

    ooo I love this sh*t!!

  26. M.... G....

Man just.. fuck Heritage haters, this is what Opeth is about, about art

    M.... G....

I Hear ya !!  I Love all Opeth albums, but this album and also Damnation are 2 of my favorite albums !
    So much creativity !!

    M.... G....

I really don't understand all the hate this album gets.  It sounds like Opeth to me, just a bit less heavy.

    M.... G....

You know what I hate? That when I say that I don't like Heritage, I'm immediately branded a stupid, close minded metalhead who can't appreciate music that doesn't have growls. Apparently it's impossible to admire Opeth for changing direction and acknowledge it as good music but simply dislike the music itself. All these people that immediately shout that I "just don't get it" are in my opinion worse than the so called "Heritage haters".

    M.... G....

I always respect people who give that as their opinion.  The vast majority of people who say they dislike it say it's because it's not heavy enough.

    M.... G....

+Mafe Gamboa Artistically driven music is so hard to find these days, it seems on the surface most bands just want to put out 20 songs and call it a day without having to deal with the finer parts of the music. The stuff that can honestly pull you in an keep you there just from the presence alone.

I'm also a huge fan of Radiohead, and I ask that same question, "how can you possibly not like this band? Is it the musicians you don't like? Is it their style? Of course music is always subjective, but as an artist, I would expect that my perspectives of art can be universal to whomever is listening or watching... It's like walking through a museum and looking at a fantastic painting. Maybe that's it, I can understand that some people aren't going to look at that same painting with the same feelings in mind even from the person who painted it...

But it still begs the question, because the emotions that I feel from listening are just so incredible, how can anyone ignore them?

  27. s.... ....

Why is this one of the best songs on the album? 0.o

    s.... ....

Because both Mikael and Fredrik wrote it. ;)

  28. K.... ....

The bonus song is my favorite song on the album?

    K.... ....

I know, it's the same for me too!

  29. C.... C....

wtf has hot topic to do with this thing?

    C.... C....

hot topic has nothing to do with opeth but everything to do with roadrunner records...so roadrunner holds songs off a full album release and gives it to hot topic to get more money off that corporate teet

  30. Y.... E....

progressive pop with a jazz drumming touch : sounds like Yes ? or crimson , or whatever more than my culture can bring me : but i like this song : they should make a another version deeply more progressive 6/4 4/4 maybe 11/8 and 7/8 somewhere in space and time ........

  31. T.... i....

    Totally!
I am a great Opeth fan... And know I tried a bit of Steven Wilson's solo work...
The Raven that Refused to Sing is just absolutely genial! Perfect!

  32. S.... K....

I absolutely agree. I too love complex and overextended music. I imagine you've already heard of his mate Steven Wilson... if you havent then I strongly recommend to check out his music - absolutely mindblowing stuff :)
    Cheers!

  33. O.... ....

    You're an idiot.

  34. B.... P....

    Nope. Sounds like Opeth.

  35. v.... s....

    this is great

  36. m.... ....

This is fast becoming one of my favorite Opeth songs (among many). At first I was confused as to how it did not make it on the regular edition of Heritage, given its beauty and elegance, but in a way, that's just it: this song is in an emotionally different place than the rest of the Heritage material, and deserves a singular spot. Haunting, yet beautiful, this is classic Opeth.

  37. M.... t....

the only thing bothering me is hot topic, i'll let this one slide because it is Opeth and thus serving a greater good.

  38. J.... ....

    Dude, I wish.

  39. H.... ....

Ah... True, call Åkerfeldt and ask?

  40. J.... ....

I did buy it, it doesn't help. It's not on the regular album, therefore the lyrics book doesn't have the lyrics for it. I could only buy it as an mp3, sadly enough, which obviously doesn't have the words with it.

  41. H.... ....

    Buy it ;)

  42. p.... s....

    yea,but not a serial killer

  43. A.... M....

    14 PEOPLE ARE DEAF

  44. D.... ....

Thats fine if you like it more than their old stuff, I would say you are in the minority atleast of the fans they got with the earlier albums.

  45. D.... M....

    Mother teresa was a bitch

  46. J.... ....

I'm looking for the lyrics to this song, but all the ones I can find from Google are incomplete or incorrect. I was just trying to make sure I heard a certain part correctly.

  47. e.... ....

absolutely awesome. wonderfull. impressive. i can hear a bit of camel meets jefferson airplane. great great great

  48. f.... ....

    Best song on Heritage.

  49. b.... ....

fuck you hot topic. but i still love you opeth.

  50. i.... ....

If Opeth was becoming too commercial, they wouldn't have made such a significant change in their sound. Commercial musicians (Blink-182, Nickelback, Linkin Park, etc.) take zero risks and do what their labels tell them to do. If you don't like the new album, that's perfectly fine. Just don't confuse it for "selling out".

  51. J.... ....

Opeth is not death metal, Opeth is Mikael Akerfeldt.
Mikael is not metal, he's a musician.
Mikael makes music. It doesn't matter what it sounds like, as long as it comes from his soul.
Everything he's ever written has more soul than all the souls in heaven and hell combined.

  52. G.... ....

Heritage is an AMAZING Album. But if Opeth doesn't go back to making death metal music again, then they should just change their name & start a whole new band. Opeth has always been a mixture of extreme metal AND soft music, NEVER JUST ONE. Opeth has always been a metal band, and too completely change their direction forever would not be fitting of the band name. That would be like Pink Floyd changing to a progressive death metal band, It just wouldn't be fitting of their name & history.

  53. D.... ....

    no, cause damnation was good.

  54. D.... ....

look where this premieres HOT TOPIC ahhahah opeth is shitty and commercial now

  55. A.... E....

This album is simply magnificent!!!!! Buy the vinyls!!!!

  56. r.... ....

same with me. it's filled with great ideas but oh god, the songwriting and coherence sucks. Pyre it's the best track.

  57. V.... ....

I agree with that. Lamentations and The Royal Albert Hall DVDs are total art. I haven't seen Roundhouse Tapes but that one's probably art too. And I'm going to see Opeth in almost 2 weeks now.

  58. P.... H....

Opeth a metal band? god they do play metal on their songs.. but they have so much more styles on their music...

its not a Metal show... its more an Art Rock show (not for the genre, but literally)

  59. f.... ....

While "Heritage" is a strong album, its not up to par with previous albums, but then again we're talking Opeth here so its safe to say even their "weaker" stuff is solid.

  60. d.... ....

I'M IN LOVE WITH THIS BAND.

  61. N.... ....

i must admit that the new album didnt really have a strong effect on me, but this song is magical... it leaves me floatting and gives me chills...

  62. i.... ....

    ifucking love opeth

  63. E.... ....

    @auroracrawler Um..

  64. m.... ....

    Love Opeth

  65. S.... ....

@peavelSD Calling opeth commercial is like calling mother theresa a serial killer.

  66. T.... ....

    @KageegeeDJ +1000000

  67. J.... G....

@ShatteredWindowpane , It's pronounced like Fire, but not starting with an F, it's "f" sound is like the "f" sound in Thick. So, you read it like "Thire".

  68. S.... ....

    @Sprnklrmn WIN!

  69. E.... ....

    @guugugh Alright, thanks mate.

  70. W.... Y....

    @ShatteredWindowpane Pire.

  71. E.... ....

@guugugh So.... Would it still be pronounced "Fire"? Or would it be "Pire"? I'm sorry to be a burden, I'm just really confused.

  72. W.... Y....

@ShatteredWindowpane Pyre = Fire but start with P instead.

  73. E.... ....

How the fuck do you pronounce the song's name?

  74. T.... R....

@Squattingtiger9 Fuckin true man! All the hate is comin from the Newbie fans.
Mikael doesnt give a fuck about what you want He plays what he wants.

  75. n.... ....

this album takes me back to damnation. frickin love it. and i love that opeth takes you on a journey with every album. this kinda makes me wanna go out and buy orchid again. and a new damnation as well. lol.

  76. S.... ....

If you're at an Opeth show and are screaming "play fucking metal" then obviously you're not much of a fan or you would know what Opeth is all about. Metal is fucking awesome but awesome music comes in all forms and sounds. Close our eyes, open your ears, and let your mind follow the sound. Opeth is pure brilliance.

  77. S.... ....

Thumbs up if you got the regular issue of the album and was pissed this song wasn't there

  78. W.... S....

    another good song from them

  79. W.... S....

    another good song from them

  80. A.... H....

@Squattingtiger9 So fucking true. What Opeth does, and did, was not only metal. It was progressive metal with folkloric swedish influences. More than just any trash metal song.

  81. p.... ....

    @csmanuel86
Same thing happened when I went to go see them. Assholes from the audience would tell him to "scream." He would reply "I'm not going to scream. You can scream, if you want. But I don't want to." During Famine or Nepenthe, can't remember which, some guy came pushing past us in the audience and was bickering because "he came to see some metal, not fucking Carlos Santana." I mean, if you're there only because it's supposed to be d.metal, then honestly you shouldn't be there, right?

  82. m.... ....

@csmanuel86 The same thing happened at the Royal Albert Hall show last year. During the initial quiet section of "Dirge for November" some moron shouted "WHERE IS FUCKING METAL?". This was exceptionally moronic given that the band were playing the whole Blackwater Park album and as such it should have been obvious what was coming and when. Good times!

  83. M.... O....

@Squattingtiger9 Thank you! Finally I feel like I'm not the only one that thinks like me.

  84. S.... ....

@iHateBeingViet Yeah, as I mentioned before, I was probably a bit too solid on my own personal opinion in the above statement. I think what I was trying to get at, was that so many great artists and bands have evolved into something else, then I see a lot of so called fans getting annoyed that their favorite bands have stopped playing " angry music "...I should rephrase the 16 year old mentality to caveman logic. You sound pretty educated, I hope you know what I mean, accept my appology.

  85. S.... ....

@Failhaid Actually, you are right, I was probably a bit to harsh on my opinion there. I think about it now and when I was in that 15-25 year old stage, I only listened to Metal myself and i think because of it I've branched off and have an appreciation for other types of music. Pink floyd, Porcupine tree, hell even Chris isaac and to a further end of the scale Clannad and Enya.....for my sanity lol.

  86. p.... ....

good stuff. I love death metal and tech metal, but Opeth has always been a favorite of mine. They just a very good overall sound. Ghost Reveries was great for me cuz it has some really heavy stuff mixed in. At least they are still good and haven't given up on trying to be creative.

  87. p.... ....

@santeedeathmetalhead Apology accepted. Get it right next time, padawan. :-p

  88. s.... ....

@pineapplepeanuts yes. derived. my apologies, professor.

  89. s.... ....

@pineapplepeanuts yes. derived. my apologies, professor.

  90. M.... ....

ich bin von KoRn hier hin gekomm wie gehtn das?!

  91. s.... ....

Part of growing up is evolving. It's absolutely amazing to have a band that has evolved and grown with me over the course of the last 12 years of knowing their music. We all reach that stage where the bands we loved when we were 16 start to feel too immature, and I'm grateful that that hasn't happened with my favorite band in the world :)

  92. t.... ....

@AlexLococo Ironically, although I like heavy sounds generally, I prefer Opeth's new album to Morbid Angel's by a very long way.

  93. D.... J....

Let me say something. This song is fucking awesome. It reeks of Akerfeldt. Anyone that doesn't respect that or Opeths new material has no business calling themselves an Opeth fan because the Opeth fan understands that good music is a reflection of the musicians soul; naturally, peoples souls change with time, thus if Akerfeldt rewrote BWP over and over he would be doing the true music fans a disservice by not preserving the reflection of the current state of their soul. \w/

  94. G.... S....

@weaponized666 no but the lyrical content of Devil's Orchard is exceptionally dark

  95. G.... S....

opeth + hot topic = huh????

  96. W.... ....

Are there ANY songs on this album that get as heavy as Watershed?

  97. K.... ....

Hot Topic, please stick to your shitty Deathcore and Screamo bands and let us have the actual REAL music. Sincerely The world

  98. S.... E....

Good to see opeth are putting in a mellow 'damnation' type song in!! love it guys. my fav

  99. B.... ....

@HadoukevMoongoose Pretty fantastic, but they always are live!

I recommend checking out the setlist from the US tour they just did, because it's practically the same setlist they played last night. A couple of older tracks, but nothing from Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries, and couple of tracks from Watershed. The rest is from Heritage, apart from Throat of Winter. Wasn't any growls, just clean singing all night.
