-- "Stay," the new video from Oingo Boingo, might seem to tone down the group's trademark wackiness, but look closer. It's still there, just buried a bit deeper.

Set (seemingly) in a mossy Southern roadhouse in the late '40s, "Stay" depicts the band as performers in the club. Whole families, young and old, seem to have come in from their farms to hear this Oingo Boingo, but look through the doors as they enter -- you can see tremendous glacial peaks. The surprises extend to the music as well, as lead singer Danny Elfman's sometimes strident voice suddenly melts into the melodic and hummable chorus of "Stay."

From the opening moments of the clip, when his shadow looms over a young couple's table, Elfman dominates the video. Looking like a younger, less war- weary Johnny Lydon, Elfman has a similarily sly and mischievous expression and a voice that's better trained and controlled.

Sharing the spotlight with Elfman are several sets of holographic ghosts, just like the ones in Disney's Haunted House. These friendly ghosts, in late- 19th-century garb, seem to dance through the roadhouse, while the band can be seen right through them. By the end of the video, everyone in the place is singing along with Oingo Boingo. Once you've seen "Stay," you may be, too.
