Oingo Boingo - Hey! Lyrics

Hey, I've got a commentary without much to say
You know those damn kids drive me crazy every day
But all I've ever think is something to complain....
And all I wish that they would all just go away
'Cause all I really want is to be just like them
Just wanna be just like them...
Just wanna be just like them...
Just wanna be just like them

Hey, I've got a commentary without much to say
If you forgive me, I'll be getting on my way
And I forgot the whole damn point of this whole song
And I'm complaining now, complaining for so long...
For so long...
For so long

I really want all those things that I can't have
All I really want to is to have you so bad

Hey, those stupid kids have really gotten out of hand
And now I think it's time we all take up a stand
And then together, we can raise our voices high...
Our voices high...
Our voices high

Hey, though at this moment, I can't think of what we'd say
I guess we really want to be just like them...
Just want to be just like them...
Just want to be just like them...
Just want to be just like them

Hey, I've thought a thousand times about this day
I've been expecting it in each and every way
The possibilities preoccupy my mind
And I'm so fortunate to be so very kind...
So very kind...
So very kind

What I really want is all those things that I can't have
What I really want is to have you so bad

What I really want is all those things that I can't have
What I really want is to have you so bad
I'm so jealous, I can barely see straight from my head
And it burns on the inside till I wish I was dead

Please, Mama, don't be angry with me
Please, Papa, don't be angry with me

And I'm so sick and tired of all those stupid things you say
And this fucking monkey sitting on my back won't go away!
And I'm still standing here with my dick in my hand
Waiting for an invitation to the Promised Land!

Please, Mother,
Don't be angry with me
Please, Father,
Don't be angry with me

Hey, I've got a commentary without much to say
And all those damn kids drive me crazy every day
But all I ever think is something to complain...
To complain...
To complain

Hey, I really wish that they would all just go away
'Cause all I really want is to be just like them...
Just wanna be just like them....

And I'm so sick and tired of all those stupid things you say
And this fucking monkey sitting on my back won't go away!
And I'm still standing here with my dick in my hand
Waiting for an invitation to the Promised Land!

Please, Mother,
Don't be angry with me.

Oingo Boingo Hey! Comments
  1. J.... R....

    Feels like a Nirvana song.

  2. C.... D....

5:17 Uh, did Jack Skellington just say "fuck"?

  3. L.... B....

I didn't even know this existed, but WOW!

  4. I.... F....

Also, how did i never notice the stylistic elements of grunge that crept out all over on this album? I guess you don't recognise the movement until you're on the other side of experiencing it, but DAMN the genius is so simple and so astoundingly emotionally relevant to large masses of people... rock on.

  5. I.... F....

This was one of my top 5 fave albums when i was between 16-20 years old; my older brother and i had listened to Boingo from the early 80s (and followed film music so we became aware of Elfman seperately as well). Our childhood was the misery any reasonably intelligent/creative child feels growing up in the Narcissistic Christian American South.
Our shared angst was palpable. Danny was a voice for our frustration and dissatisfaction with the mirage of the 'good life'. Music is the most natural, common religion for man (if one insists that man needs a religious structure, as such). :)

  6. T.... ....

    anyone hear him say 'fucking'?

  7. S.... N....

The two dislikes are probably them damn kids

  8. J.... F....

Saw them in 1994 at, the then known, Aladdin Theater in Las Vegas. One of the best concerts I've ever been to.

  9. K.... ....

I didn't realize Oingo Boingo went grunge!

    K.... ....

KristinNirvana Yeah it was pretty amazing how their sound changed over the years! This really isnt grunge, despite the ‘Wikipedia’ version of events, but then grunge was always just a marketing term anyway, and who cares after all what genre it is. A lovely mash of different influences

@Face-Fok Ltd. It's an absolutely vicious parody of bands like Bush and STP whose careers basically lived and died by their ability to put words that sound like boomers complaining overtop of music that sounded like the work of a machine programmed to pump out Shit That Sounds Like Nevermind....

    K.... ....

@Zoran Taylor I totally hear this as a parody. Kind of like Beatles "Back in the USSR" mocking the Beach Boys.
