Oberst, Conor - Hundreds Of Ways Lyrics

What a thing to be a witness to the sunshine
What a dream to just be walking on the ground
What a time to live among the ashen remnants of our love
That came before and I'm still looking for that now

It took centuries to build these twisted cities
It took seconds to reduce them down to dust
And all the tour guide could say was
“Take your pictures folks it's late
And try your best please to remember what was done”

Don't look so forlorn
Don't you look so scared
Don't get so upset
This world was never fair

But there are hundreds of ways
To get through the days
There are hundreds of ways
Now you just find one

I used to think that time was of the essence
Now I just wish I could get some sleep
The strange parade of sounds the city makes when I lay down
Little explosions that set fire to my dreams

Sometimes I get mistaken for this actor
And I guess that I can see it from the side
Maybe no one really seems to be the person that they mean to be
I hope I am forgotten when I die

Don't contradict me
Don't make me cross the line
If you feel threatened
It's only 'cause I might

But there are hundreds of ways
To get through the days
There are hundreds of ways
To get through the day
Yes, there are hundreds of ways
So you best find one

All my heroes they're all talk
Running in circles
Some stopwatch some chaos
Love was the message. Full stop

We ramble on and on
We ramble on and on

I stole all the rhinestones out of Carolina
And sold them out in Bakersfield for cash
The band shell got a band sounds like an arcade in Japan
Blew all my quarters trying to get that feeling back

Now any sucker can turn boredom into violence
A sociopath riding on a bus
His irises are black from his novelty contacts
He looks around but he can't see the rest of us

In my sunglasses don't mind the blinding light
Yeah it's getting dark bro but I've always loved the night

But there are hundreds of ways
To get through the day
There are hundreds of ways
To get through the day
Yes there are hundreds of ways
To get through the day
There are hundreds of ways
To get through the day
Yes there are hundreds and hundreds and hundreds of ways
To get through the day
Just find one

Hey. There’ll always be music. Things are going to fall apart. We’ve all been living a dream. Time to wake. I personally won’t listen to the alarms. What a time though, if you’re alive and reading this then you lived the golden age.

  4. C.... C....

Thanks. You got me off of six years of medically prescribed pure heroin and fentanyl. So many tears and spinning smiling moments of mania to your music. Thanks for my life.

  5. J.... ....

This is the song I listen to each morning on my way to school, it gives me motivation and makes me happy. Love it!

Just got the symbolism of visiting the museum of the post-nuclear apocalypse: I think it represents whatever illness/trauma/bad relationship you are on the other side of.

The tour guide (friend/therapist) hurries you along but reminds you to remember what was lost, meaning don't dwell on the past any more than your need to to learn from it.

The message moving forward: "There are 100's of ways to get through the days. Just find one." I'll take it

"Persuading the hunters to fish instead.",dan'

  20. C.... D....

I'm on my husband's account, distracting myself from song writing. This album was so much more positive than the new ones and I'm yet again feeling the motivation to write.... Unfortunately, it's so much easier to vibe with these tunes than weave the web of madness that's circulating through my veins and dominating the world atm... Oberst has always seemed to "evolve" with me, we married around the same time for example, but for the first time in damn near ten years I don't relate to his music. It's troubling and frustrating also makes me sad... it's time to get back to the piano, it's keys will bring me more release than these.

    C.... D....

Destroyer of Worlds Cthulhu omg agree

  21. C.... A....

I'd love to see his astrology chart, I bet his Mercury (communication) is aspecting his Neptune (dreams and longing)

  22. D.... ....

Does anyone know what actor he might be mistaken for?

  23. b.... c....

i forgot my place, but im back now with a smile on my face. get me out of this net i cant see through all the scales. Great song. Conors the dopest

    the power of lyrics

  26. L.... P....

No one does it for me quite like Bright Eyes. Anyone know of any similar artists? I'd like to listen to more than one artist, for once.

    L.... P....

    +Edward Cullen Elliot :( rip

    L.... P....

the only true answer is no one... clearly!

    L.... P....

I know several people have told you to check out Elliot Smith. just thought you'd like to know that Conor Oberst references Elliot in his bright eyes song "I Will Be Grateful For This Day" he says "I had a friend who changed his name but couldn't change himself, stuck in a needle in his arm to calm his handsome hell, etc etc." That whole verse was in reference to Elliott Smith which is pretty interesting.

    L.... P....

    try Bombadil

    L.... P....

  27. K.... ....

I think the actor he mentions is Jake Gyllenhaal.

    K.... ....

+Karpify Jake as Donnie Darko was the image my mind produced before I actually saw what Conor looked like... lol, it's so close... but I think he's talking about Edward Norton if I'm not mistaken.

    K.... ....

I think maybe Criss Angel, yes.

    K.... ....

he is talking about himself. that people think he is someone he isn't in essence ... or worse, he thinks he is someone he isn't in essence (viz an idol, a body; unreal).

"I hope I am forgotten when I die" means "may my ego return to nothing, which it always "was"!"

    K.... ....

The actor is Milo Ventimiglia. Aka Peter Petreli from Heroes. What's funny is,back in the day when Heroes first aired I was like, "Hey, that guy looks like the Bright Eyes guy." I guess others thought the same.😀

  28. C.... D....

sounds like the shit i took this morning

  29. S.... M....

I can hear a bit of Alone Again Or by Love.  Also another 60s song I can't remember the title of.

  33. Z.... S....

    on our aeo playlist at work! the best! :}

  34. J.... C....

"Sometimes I get mistaken for this actor" ...Who would be the best actor to play Conor in a movie?

    J.... C....

    +Joe Christensen milo ventimiglia

    J.... C....

+Julian Alexander ... Don't forget Jake Gyllenhaal or Edward Norton...

    J.... C....

Milo Ventimiglia, the way he looked in 'Heroes'!

  35. F.... ....

    Thanks Dave!

  36. 1.... ....

Love the album, especially this song: great (African sounding?) lead guitar lines, and perfect backing vocals from Klara and Johanna Soderberg of First Aid Kit.

  37. A.... M....

  38. g.... ....

    1:39

Which actor does he get mistaken for?

My guess is either Toby McGuire or Jake Gyllanhall.

  39. P.... W....

This song is better than prozac. <3 Thanks @conoroberst

  40. S.... V....

Love it! He's like a 21st-century Bob Dylan.

    S.... V....

+Sandy Salmansohn He would be stoked to hear you say that

    S.... V....

    He's like a 21st century Conor Oberst.

    S.... V....

    Bob Dylan wished!

    S.... V....

Idk..He's like the lead singer/songwriter of bright eyes

    S.... V....

I say that as well... a voice of a generation... a true poet.

  41. E.... P....

Just found out about the new album and upcoming tour, just in time thank god! Love Conor ^^

  43. J.... J....

holy fuck, ive been a fan of bright eyes for age and never realised this was coming out, Im so static right now haha

    J.... J....

Conor Oberst is Bright Eyes, he is Commander Venus, Park Ave., Mystic Valley Band, I'm sorry but I literally can't name any of the other members in any of those groups. Not that they didn't contribute a lot, but it's not like any of them could continue being a band without Conor.

    J.... J....

Bright eyes has had 3 permanent members since like 04. Until then he did write and record everything himself. +DDrakoak you forgot Deseperacidos and the faint. I understand what you guys are saying but conor oberst is not just bright eyes, otherwise he wouldnt have the side projects. I have seen him live 2 times. Amazing

    J.... J....

I have too, and you're right I did forget to mention Desaparecidos, which is weird because I just saw them on their last tour. Don't get me wrong, everyone in all of the mentioned bands have played their role at way higher than satisfactory level. I'm basically just saying that any of the other members could be replaced and to most people it wouldn't make much of a difference. But without Conor in any of those bands the band would basically be an entirely new band.

    J.... J....

Drakoak with the exception of commander venus you're right. cause we got bright Eyes, Cursive, and The Faint from its members. 3 of my favorite bands from one

    J.... J....

Yeah but Commdaner Venus died out, they just split into their own projects.

  44. C.... P....

    Brilliant

  45. c.... ....

this freakin voice; so sensitive to it in the best of ways.

  46. P.... d....

This guy is a total genius !

  47. k.... m....

    love it

  48. S.... H....

I don't understand how one singer has held my heart for fifteen years and never once disappointed me, but I'll take it.

    S.... H....

    J. Sami Harvey I second that. amen , haleluja 🔥🙏🔥X

    S.... H....

Sami Harvey i feel the exact same.

  49. J.... C....

A giant bird sent me here.

    J.... C....

    Was it yellow, by chance?

    J.... C....

@J. Sami Harvey I was recently reading In True Blood, Smith, one of the killers, speaks of the Yellow Bird multiple times - I figured it was a reference to Capote, but who knows?

    J.... C....

    smoke up Jim Carrey

  50. r.... ....

Think about this and then think about "The awful sweetness of escaping sweat" or "Lila" or, god forbid, the entire "Lifted" album. Not the same. Sorry.

    r.... ....

You're talking about some songs that he made almost two decades ago, to now.
I like those, too, but why would you expect a guy who constantly reinvented himself to be trying to recreate what he did when he was a teenager?

    r.... ....

Did u read the rs article. He got married in 2010. He said his old songs are too verbose, while he ate a sausage pizza. Conors gone crazy. I can understand being happy and getting married and changing music style but what is the reason for dropping the vegetarian lifestyle. Id really like to know why. Its gotten back to him in the form of a dumb rape accusation. he can have plenty of beauties why would people think that.

  51. S.... M....

    CONOR!!!

  52. C.... C....

I'm so nervous about this new album

  53. G.... V....

    :D <3 <3

  54. D.... M....

And again, I feel grateful for being alive.

  55. e.... ....

    i love this!

  56. M.... ....

so stoked for the new album and seeing this amazing dude live on his tour

  57. M.... A....

    Pure fucking AWESOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  58. J.... R....

I seriously cannot stop listening to this.. He is such a lyrical genius. Patiently waiting for his tour dates in Ca..

  59. g.... ....

Going to see him in Manchester in July, can't wait!!

  60. t.... ....

takes me back 9 years ago when i seen him live performing "im wide awake its morning" most chill, but amazing concert ive ever been too>!!

  61. B.... A....

    Conor can do no wrong.

  62. C.... M....

Conor is my way of getting through the day, and i used to be a dope addict. Now just addicted to anything bright eyes/conor

    C.... M....

    Cmack Biatches me too bro!

  63. C.... M....

I already got two tickets for Central Park..... cannot fucking wait

  64. B.... H....

skipping to the beat while my g/f shakes the rain stick.

  65. R.... H....

Bakersfield, CA!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D And love the new song

  66. J.... S....

I'm just listening to this and crying. Thanks Conor!

  67. N.... ....

Shit night at work, shot of vodka, beer and pizza. I am normal now. . .

  68. R.... P....

    What a beautiful song.

  69. m.... ....

I've listened to him for the last 13 years and all of his various projects and have a great love for his work. I'm just glad this ridiculous lawsuit hasn't stopped Conor from wanting to record. False accusations not only destroy the lives of the accused but also do major damage to the system trying to protect real victims.... oh yeah great song, I got carried away...

  70. J.... E....

    This is amazing!

  71. B.... ....

    Love this!

  72. S.... ....

My guess is that the actor is one of two people: Tobey McGuire (who was my initial guess) or Milo Ventimiglia, a lesser known actor, but one that I have heard Oberst compared to in the past.

    S.... ....

ya milo was lookin like conor with te emo swoop hair when he was killin it on heroes. they both pretty cool. toby is not like conor n is kinda lame.

    S.... ....

I'm pretty sure when he says "sometimes I'm mistaken for this actor", he's referring to how people may perceive him from his music or his actions, and how their perception is nothing like how he intends to be.

    S.... ....

i would say that tobey just acts like tobey maguire in every movie (especially spiderman) but he was different in the majestic. i agree he is a good actor but still lame.yes i will check out babylon even if it looks like great gatsby thank you. also the actor conor is mistaken for is "otm shank", india's answer to brian dennehy. otm shank.

  73. M.... R....

    OH , THANK GOD

  74. K.... H....

    Sounds like M.Ward on guitar.

  75. j.... .....

Great tune Conor! And brilliant lyrics as usual...can't wait for the album

  76. D.... K....

Another Spring giving birth to Oberst flowers. This time they're held by Swedish sirens.

  77. S.... V....

Will he play bright eyes songs on this tour?

  78. J.... P....

One of very few artists who never disappoints.

  79. r.... k....

    Give us our rhinestones back!

  80. l.... ....

  81. a.... ....

    it's so springy (´ ▽`).。o♥♡

    Paul SimOberst

  83. M.... ....

i was telling myself that this guy sings exactly like the guy from Bright Eyes... fail.

    M.... ....

no wtf your right this guy is a total ripping off bright eyes, woobly voice and everything.

    M.... ....

    @jet black
He is the guy from Bright Eyes haha :-)

    M.... ....

    i being sarcassy...

  84. L.... L....

Not as bad as it was...but not as good as Bright Eyes.

  85. C.... ....

Yes, just like the old stuff - vulnerable, precise and dark - but with Van Morrison style horns. Lovely

  86. M.... ....

    The KING of writing Bridges

  87. J.... T....

Can't get enough of this song, Can't wait for the album.
Every time I hear it i just get the biggest grin on my face

  88. s.... ....

From an apple's perspective, there are hundreds of thousands bellies to get through. From a belly's perspective there are 100,000s of thousands of apple's to eat. "We ramble on and on." Sometimes there is nothing left to say.

  89. T.... 1....

    what happened to saddle creek?

    T.... 1....

+YoseMiteEmery It's cool to have knowledge about stuff, but you really don't need to be aggro about what you know.

And as far as we know, Desaparecidos are still active. They were putting out singles last year. They were on tour but someone got sick and they had to cancel I think.

None of this REALLY matters. The point is that Conor is still kicking around new music which is cool. Personally I found his latest set for Gigstock to be really great. Some solid new material. He seems to have moved past that Christian Revival Rock sound from a couple years back. :)

Did you guys check it out?

    ...ryan

    T.... 1....

no man... its over! did u read the rs article , he sed his old songs were too verbose.. he got married and eats sausage pizza its over...indie rock is dead.

    T.... 1....

@YoseMiteEmery If Saddle Creek is only Bright Eyes what are all these artists doing on their site? http://saddle-creek.com/artists/  Stop being wrong.

    T.... 1....

+YoseMiteEmery Not even! They have Cursive,
The Good Life, And The Faint to name a few.

    T.... 1....

    @Joshua Banning
I meant of Conor's projects. Bright Eyes is the only one on Saddle Creek. Desa is on a new label now.

  90. S.... M....

Thank you Conor. Music is my life, and in some ways I have you to thank for that. I've listened to many, many, great lyricists since someone showed me your songs 10 years ago. But none of them has hit so close to home as yours and I can't ever explain why. Your style of imagery paints my mind almost exactly the way it is and before I know it, I don't feel alone anymore. Pure magic, and I can't thank you enough.

  91. N.... M....

    I'm happy!

  92. A.... E....

I may be biased because I have always loved anything Conor touches, but this is so great!! I wanna melt this song and inject it into my bloodstream.

  93. E.... ....

ah hes back again! just what I needed today! Thanks for the uplift yet again...and again...and again you brilliant man! Cannot wait to hear the rest of the new album!

    gotta love the horns too!

  94. a.... ....

Cool perspective and leaves so much anticipation

  95. v.... ....

Conor, I hope you remember you promised me to come to St Petersburg, Russia.

  96. D.... V....

    London dates please :)

  97. J.... ....

    nice song, nice bass tone.

  98. A.... R....

Westbury and Central Park hello Conor i've waited 10 years to be able to watch you perform THIS IS MY YEAR.

  99. D.... H....

    I hope I'm forgotten when I die.
