Nugent, Ted - Hammerdown Lyrics

Aww go ahead, Ted

Beats in the street and I'm coming
Dead headed over the map
Highway trains keep on runnin'
Sneakin' right through the traps [?]

White line
Double time
Come around with a hammerdown

Hammerdown
Hammer

Last night saw me in Detroit
Home town boy lookin' good
Ride like we stink in the daylight
Play rock and roll like I should

White line
Double time
Come around with a hammer, hammer, hammer hammerdown

Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammer

Thousand gigs in Chicago
Never played Delaware
There are places where I'll go
I fly by night, love affair

White line
Double time
Come around with a hammer, hammer, hammer hammerdown

Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammer

Last night saw me in Detroit
Home town boy lookin' good
Ride like we stink in the daylight
Play rock and roll like I should

White line
Double time
Comin' 'round with a hammer, hammer, hammer hammerdown

Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammer

Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammerdown
Hammer...

  9. K.... C....

if you don't like ted because of politics,it's your loss!

    K.... C....

You got that right. I couldn't care less what his political views are. He could be a card carrying communist for all I care. Just as long as he still rocks as good now as he did back then, that's all that matters.

  10. Z.... Z....

    Heavy on the Meat!

  11. M.... J....

    Anything Ted Sings is Bad-Ass!

    M.... J....

    That's Meat Loaf singing...

  12. l.... ....

This is Nugent's best album imho. Cat Scratch Fever gets a lot of praise from critics and fans. But to me, Free for all is more consistent in the songwriting department, and the riffing in general is a hell of a lot heavier.

  13. K.... 2....

Hammerdown, nothing else to say but Ted and Meatloaf kick a ss on this jamm.

  14. J.... F....

A great great tune! Listen to the live version with Todd Rundgren! Smoking! You'd think it was Iron Maiden playing!

  15. F.... ....

I hope they play this when they bomb North Korea.

  16. n.... ....

    Meatloaf !! Oooh yea

  17. L.... ....

Meat Loaf doesn't get the respect he deserves.

    L.... ....

    In what way? He doesn't.

    L.... ....

@Lilly I think a lot of people were down on him when he first came out because of his size. I guess people weren't used to seeing a 300 pound man singing rock and roll. People thought I was crazy because I liked him. I always thought he had a very powerful, distinctive voice. The moment you heard him sing, you knew it was him. Unfortunately, I'm afraid those days are behind him now. I'm not saying that to be mean, I'm just stating a fact. I was a recording of a concert he did a few years ago in Australia and he looked and sounded like he was in pain, which no doubt he probably was. I know he has severe back troubles. Quite frankly, I'm surprised he's still recording.

  18. D.... K....

i can still here the echos off the hallowed halls of cobo... hall...fuckin rock your heart out♪

  21. C.... K....

Proof that's Ted's musicianship elevates other artists. In this case, Meatloaf...

    C.... K....

Um, no. Proof that Meat Loaf is a force of nature.

    C.... K....

@Lilly but how does the Loaf's dick taste?

  22. N.... Y....

If you ask me this is one of his more underrated songs and boy howdy this one kicks ass. Perfect blend of powerful vocals and impactful guitars and my personal song from the album.

  23. T.... F....

    many many parties

  24. B.... B....

just read old comments..glad everyone said it for me..they were a great combo...the guitar god, and the mean ass singer!!!

  25. B.... B....

this brings back memories..fyi..does anyone know that's meatloaf singing?

    B.... B....

@ Bill Bleakney Yup. He sang on five of the nine tracks off this album. Derek St. Holmes sang lead on "Turn it up" and "Light my way". And the Nuge himself sang on "Dog eat dog" and the title track.

    B.... B....

lynchie137 Derek sings Dog Eat Dog as well

    B.... B....

Meatloaf only go paid 1000.00 bucks to this record....he obviously got robbed!!!

    B.... B....

Meatloaf sang ....Writing onThe wall , Together, Hammer down , I love yo so much I told you a lie...hammer down and Street rats 🙂

  30. c.... j....

    Uncle Ted

    FOREVER!!!!!

  31. f.... ....

@kurtmanerz Judas Priest also released a metal album in 1976 (why do you comment while we can't comment back on you?).

  32. t.... ....

One of the very few heavy metal songs written in a minor key.

    t.... ....

+Marvin Gibbs Compared to Megadeth or Slayer, It's not. But when this was out in the 70's all we had was Ted Nugent, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath and a few others. This was about as heavy as it got then. At first it was called heavy rock in the late 60's, think Cream, and Iron Butterfly, gradually the terms heavy metal and hard rock replaced the term heavy rock

    t.... ....

+thewillismon And Thin Lizzy and UFO.

    t.... ....

Even compared to Slayer this is heavy metal, the main riff sounds as metallic as anything from 80s thrash metal, thrash metal (beginning with Judas Priest in 1977 in fact) took the basis of 70s heavy metal and increased its speed and aggression, but the main structure was already set by Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Uriah Heep, Lucifer's Friend, Sir Lord Baltimore, Budgie, Thin Lizzy or UFO. The fact that more extreme metal genres emerged later doesn't make older forms of metal less metal, because by thinking like this we would end up saying that Slayer was playing rock 'n' roll because metal is Cannibal Corpse or Suffocation (yet... early Cannibal Corpse sounded a lot like Slayer!). Heavy metal is just a wide and smooth set of musical expression based on blues, especially late 60s acid blues (thewillismon you were right to mention Cream and Iron Butterfly, they played a crucial role in the early development of metal!), and fusion jazz, without any strict frontier between the so-called subgenres. To understand this, listen to Celtic Frost, they share common points with almost everything from Black Sabbath or Angel Witch to Obituary and Darkthrone, not speaking about their Killing Joke/Bauhaus-influenced post-punk side. So whether we are in 1976 or 2018, Hammerdown is still a great heavy metal tune with one of the most neck-breaking riffs of that period!

    t.... ....

And despite its intensity and inner violence, Slayer is not that different from Judas Priest, Mercyful Fate or early Iron Maiden, in fact I deem their music as a blend of the three with an increased level of violence (Kerry King acknowledged the influence of those three bands). Judas Priest's Dissident Aggressor, Victim Of Change or Exciter, Mercyful Fate's Doomed By The Living Dead, Satan's Fall or A Corpse Without A Soul and Iron Maiden's Transylvania, Phantom Of The Opera or Purgatory are good foreshadowings of what Slayer was going to be! Naturally, they were true artists, not mere imitators, their style was personalised and especially by Hell Awaits they had developped their own sound and atmosphere, when I say "blend", I mean that these bands were their basis, but they didn't blend the sound of those bands like modern-day thrash bands do with 80s thrash, just copying riffs and putting a modern Nuclear Blast-production on it.

    t.... ....

thewillismon ...not being a dick but most metal is in a minor key, a little band called black sabbath really got it rolling. Regardless, this is classic Ted and is awesome.

  33. d.... r....

    Meatloaf MADE this song..

    d.... r....

Meat Loaf made every song he sang.

    d.... r....

    Good one Rotty Lover

  34. K.... M....

HOMETOWN BOY FROM DETROIT=ROCK UM TEDDY-HOTT DAMN HE CAN PLAY!!

  35. j.... ....

Meatloaf's voice was awesome.  Never knew he sang lead for Nuge.  He can really rock.

    j.... ....

He deserves a lot more respect than he gets. A LOT.

    j.... ....

five tracks on this album only...and for the Amboy Dukes

    j.... ....

professorpsoop all the tracks he did were amazing.

    j.... ....

Yes it's the "Loaf" at medium rare where he should've stayed. Just saying. this was his pinnacle IMO.

  36. M.... W....

This song influenced NWOBM so hard especially Maiden. I love that bass line so friggin much.

    M.... W....

    yeah i hear that!

    M.... W....

British Heavy Metal or Black Metal lol?

    M.... W....

Yes I hear some Killers in here btw.

  37. B.... R....

Imo,Meatloaf definitely should've stayed in that hard rock band setting. After he had that huge breakdown during the Bat Out Of Hell tour it took him YEARS to recover! He's always had that big, powerful booming voice that only a heavier rock band really could handle.

    B.... R....

I totally agree. It's a shame his voice is just about shot. I saw a video of him a little over a year ago doing a concert in Australia, and he sounded awful. I was totally shocked. But the audience seemed to enjoy it, so I guess that's all that matters.

  38. v.... ....

My favorite Nuge album as well. He's at his best here.

    v.... ....

vigor01 Because of Meat and Teddy''s collaboration! Meat was awsome! They should've stayed together!

  39. b.... c....

This was my first Nuge album as well. Awesome. Got to see him live three times over the years.

  40. s.... ....

I used to tell people back in the 70s that the Meat was on this vocal not Ted and won a few bucks at the bar.

  41. b.... ....

My god!... I didn't realize this was Meatloaf. This is good shit. It sounds like early heavy metal.

  42. N.... S....

Really no shit that's cool man thanks for the information

  43. c.... j....

thats because meatloaf is the lead singer for this song, but ted is still playing guitar, along with Derrek St. Holmes

  44. N.... S....

This song kinda sounds like the band Meatloaf

  45. j.... ....

Oh ok, thanks for that bit of trivia! I guess from what you said i am a tad bit older. 1976 was my 18th birthday! Still no bills or responsibilities .. They were on their way tho. haha. My first concert ever was in 1976. It was Black Sabbath / Ted Nugent. Thats when i really started to take notice of Ted.

  46. j.... ....

I had this on vinyl for years before it was destroyed in a flood. I don't recall ever knowing Meatloaf appearing on the album. What did he perform on the album? Thanks.

  47. h.... ....

That's what I meant.I should have said Kirk's solos sound very similar.

  48. V.... ....

You mean that Hammet's solo sounds like Ted's solos....

  49. h.... ....

Ted's solos sound very similar to Kirk Hammet's in "One".

    h.... ....

    hoboplane you got that backwards

  50. B.... ....

Free for All was my first Ted Nugent album. I remember reading the credits and wandered who the heck "Meatloaf" was...not too much later we found out.

  51. f.... ....

possibly the best nuge song of all time
