New Order - Way Of Life Lyrics
You told me about yourself,
How you once lived with someone else
The way of life that you had tried
The way they hurt you deep inside
That's the only thing about it
That's the only thing about it
I can't find anyone to doubt it
Who do you think you're talking to?
When I look at you I know you're lying
All you say and do
Seems to fall apart and leave you crying
But I thought I could've seen you here today
But you leave me standing each and every way
You told me a pack of lies
Failure of your moral code
The kind of things that I can't give
That's the only thing about it
I can't find anyone to doubt it
That's the only thing about it
I can't find anyone to doubt it
Who do you think you're talking to?
When I look at you I know you're lying
All you say and do
Seems to fall apart and leave you crying
Who do you think you're talking to?
When I look at you I know you're lying
All you say and do
Seems to fall apart and leave you crying

Great song.
I think this is my favorite song from what is an odd album -- but one that grows on you.
love 2:26
Had a friend who thought this was too much distorted guitar for N O, lol after blue monday never too much guitar fuzz.
I like the reference to Love Will Tear us Apart at the end!
probably N.O.'s best album
CONTRARY TO POPULAR BELIEF, THIS IS NOT NO'S ATTEMPT TO RECREATE "LOVE WILL TEAR US APART"; THIS CD IS SIMPLY A COLLECTION OF BEYOND CLASSIC POP SONGS!
SUBLIME
CORRECT WORD TO DESCRIBE THIS CLASSIC!
Magic music.

love,
love will tear us apart...
@Lmsln Never heard of R.E.M.. I'll look it up later.
Of course your story alright ^^.
I'm lucky my dad pointed me out to Joy Division. I probably would have never heard of them otherwise(it's not my fault I was born too late to even hear anywhere about of New Order :/).
What kind of music from(mostly) other genres do you listen to? To be honest, I don't have a specific preference. When music sounds cool to me, I just listen to it(I know it's vague, but always when I try to think about it, I just don't know). I used to listen to AC/DC a lot, but they got repetitive for me after some time. After that(and I'm in it 'till now) I like Judas Priest and some of Iron Maiden(both heavy metal), BUT I listen to synthwave music, too: M|O|O|N, Scattle, or Lazerhawk. Maybe I could stuff something else, if I remembered.
I'm on the "Republic" album. It just seems... weaker than the previous ones. It just seems like just some other synthesizer electronic music you can find anywhere. Well, I can still listen to older albums and JD ^^.

R.E.M. does jangle alternative rock with their earlier albums, especially their best one Murmur (I think), though they have a lot of variation later on in rock, pop, electronic, etc.
As for music genres, I've been expanding into different stuff for a while now. I don't like metal (sorry!) but synth stuff like New Order is great and I got into some pop electronic like MGMT last year. That's a strange story in itself, because I went from hating them during my first listen to liking them my second one, and I have no idea how that happened.
Probably my favorite genre all in all is shoegaze though: Yo La Tengo, Galaxie 500, and Slowdive. I'm always looking for more shoegaze stuff.
Republic is my least favorite New Order album, but after that one I think they do better with Get Ready, which is probably their loudest album. Which is your favorite of theirs so far? Power Corruption & Lies and Brotherhood are my top picks.
(Don't be scared by "show 40 lines," I did better formatting this time and it takes a little more space :P)
@Lmsln Hey, it's totally fine by me that you don't like metal. I don't like pop or country, for example ^^.
Oh, I had moments that I like something better on the second try, too. It just happens. Some things happen in your life or you're just in a different mood and then when you look at a certain thing after such things your perspective is different.
I really liked Joy Division, so naturally "Movement" became my favorite :P.
"Power, Corruption & Lies" sounds like more of the same, except more synth-y, which creates an interesting combination(at least to me).
"Low-life" was a little less Joy Division-ish, but still had some heavy sound to it. I felt like "Brotherhood" was like this, too.
But then, with "Technique" the feeling of heaviness was gone. They moved on, and I don't blame them... but the "heaviness" feeling was exactly the reason I liked Joy Division. It seemed to really get me down, but still somehow managed to make me feel lively.
NO from "Technique" felt like synthpop and rock. The situation of me preferring JD/earlyNO over newNO was just the same as situation of me preferring Judas Priest(metal) over AC/DC(rock) from earlier in my life.
I need something heavy. Otherwise the music bores me. Becomes just a background filler.
Great talking with you ^^! Looking forward to a response.
@sebool112 I can see why you wouldn't like pop, and I can't listen to country either. Most of the pop stuff on the radio I can't take, but like I said there are a couple exceptions which I'm glad to have found.
It would have been interesting to see what Joy Division would do on their third album, and albums after that, but poor Ian couldn't live anymore...
In the end though I'm glad we got New Order, that the members didn't quit and kept going.
Sometimes, regarding background music, I just want something quiet and ambient to listen to (like The Durutti Column), especially if it's early in the morning or if I'm trying to study or read.
@Lmsln 1. "It would have been interesting to see what Joy Division would do on their third album," THIS is exactly what I've been wondering ever after I learned that old JD crew was made into New Order.
Did you know that when Joy Division made their name, they arranged that if ANYONE of the band would leave, they'd change the name of the whole band... and so it happened.
2. Yeah, I'm glad they kept together, too. A lot of people seem to like this kind of New Order(I don't, but so what ^^). I only wish that the fans know their origins - whether liking it or not.
Though, New Order did go through a major brake-up. Peter Hook("Hooky") is no longer their bassist. Since around 2007, I think.
However he made a group on his own - "Peter Hook and The Light" - they go around the world and play JD and old NO songs. Google it. I appreciate that he actually does that.
(Sidenote: I especially like it since Peter has similar voice range to Ian. Check out "Interzone" if you don't believe me. Peter is singing with Ian there and they sound pretty alike. It actually makes me wonder why wasn't Peter the one who became the lead singer for New Order when it was formed. He only sang in "Dreams Never End").
3. Oh, sure, background music is ok. Ambient is just the greatest thing for that. What I meant, though, is that rock seems... I'm not sure what would be the word. "Casual?" I mean that it doesn't have this "weight" to keep my attention and/or keep me entertained... Just doesn't "click" for me.
But make no mistake, I don't hate synthesizers. I like synthwave music such as "Dust" by M|O|O|N or "Electric Groove" by Lazerhawk. It's just the way the synthesizers are used with guitar and those vocals in newer(albums of) New Order that somehow doesn't give the feeling of... "it". I'm sorry for my vagueness, I just don't know how can I say/describe that :/.
I think I put this on repeat and entire day while at work.
Yes, Art, I heard LWTUA. Good ear!!
are those REALLY the lyrics?
Funny how the confrontations of my youth, my childhoods, between murder groups of different social orientation and intent, been they republican versus empire, anarchist versus capitalist, brotherhood versus authoritarians, have devoluted to recruitment via secondment and seduction to murder within a boundary anfter a period of elevation of rank to one more isolated. Pathetic, really bathetic, boys and girls of the Western hemisphere.
every song sounds the same cant you hear it?
We all heard it
@soulonice316 mine too!
@ArtMusicSoul yeah i always thought that myself....good spot!
My two favorite New Order songs on the same album - "Weirdo" and "Way of Life". An underrated album from NO and the 80's, for sure.
how bout BLT?
