New Order - Broken Promises Lyrics
Oh I don't know why people lie
And I don't know why people die
Every time I see you, you shout at me
'Cause of all the things in the world that I can't see
But what I think goes on in this world
Is that the more you earn, the less you learn
There's a fire in life where we will burn
And I never could believe it
And I never could be true
For the things that mean so much to me
Don't mean that much to you
And I never could believe
The way you told me I was wrong
If I'm right and you are sinful
Oh, I don't know how I think this way,
And yet you sit there looking at me all day
There's more to you than I can see
There's a shadow of another hanging over me
But what I think goes on in this world
For a mother and a father and a boy and a girl
Is that the more you earn, the less you learn
There's a fire in life where we will burn
And I never could believe it
And I never could be true
For the things that mean so much to me
Don't mean that much to you
And I never could believe
The way you told me I was wrong
If I'm right and if you're sinful
Then for God's sake I was wrong
Oh, I'd tear you out of heaven
And I'd tear you out of hell
And I'd see your life in ruins
Because mine lies there as well
And I'd cry out in my loneliness
While you sleep in your peace
But you'll never see my face again
While I need words like these

Still alive .
The second best of this really great album
A prelude to shoegaze ....
Brotherhood's best song!!!
2019, im Always here..WTF!
Bro'.....same exact feeling...and i am 1963....
Brotherhood might likely be their best album following Movement
That two-part guitar solo is such bitter fire, straight from the heart, one of Bernard's best
The bass line reminds me a bit about Joy Division's Isolation. But it creates different vibes though
NEW ORDER CRAFTING PERFECT POP SONGS, WITH THEIR SPECIAL EDGE, IS WHAT THIS CD SHOULD BE REMEMBERED AS SETTING FORTH!
Best band ever period. I miss the 80s back Seattle, wave days.
+johannthebored giggity...you'd know about their 12 inch...
The meh chorus kills this near perfect song.
Their most underrated song
One of the most underrated songs of all time PERIOD
"Underground" my ass. They had the best selling 12 inch single of all time.
THERE'S A FIRE IN LIFE WHERE WE WILL BURN
real energy. this was an underground band. there is more feeling emotion in bernard's voice in this song alone then probably have the population of the united states resident's souls.. its not "bad singing" its "real singing"...........
bernard rules however you slice it. it is a shame about ian but... im thankful that new order survived and most thankful for this song. it sucks when you lose a friend, but a friend would most likely want you to carry on with respect and love. and thats what new order did, or else they would have not changed their name. love ian rest in peace, thank you new order for everything they have done for underground music/living in general <3
he did awesome when he sung like curtis. he does awesome on this track. he does awesome on every track. rip ian
oh i dont know why people lie
oh i dont know why people die..
A critic rightly spoke of a "nervous brooding pulse" running through Brotherhood. This track proves his point.
his bad singing is what makes new order so special to me
I thought and still do think this album was lame. Bernard is great as a guitarist but he can't hold a tune. Just awful. Much better NO stuff out there.
@MrStronf I can. This song rocks.
Très rock, avec ambiance particulière. Dans la veine de Sunrise.
Just throws down at 2:08. always loved that.
low life , brotherwood , technique : the sound of my life
brotherwood was especially good indeed
Mine too...we are a..brotherhood.

donuthurty
ian got these guys together..hello...joy division
these guys got ian with them
@RobDeManc That's not much of an advert for the album. Best thing about it was/is the record cover!
This was one of the best on that album.
OK, I won't comment. Hey, did I just comment? You tricked me. Wait a minute, so did you! No more comments...
