Neutral Milk Hotel - Where You'll Find Me Now Lyrics

All I perceive is wasted and broken
Silvery streams, sacred when spoken
Slam into me and into the ditch of debris.
And you smoke in the park, you sleep in the greenery,
Everyone barks but all still believing
To tear out your heart would send all your secrets to me,

But I let you down,
And swollen and small is where you'll find me now
With that silver stripping off
From my tongue you're tearing out,
And you'll never hear me talk.

Your teeth believe that teeth are for tearing
Tear into me and the scent of you sweating
Smells good to me, as long as we keep in our clothes
And out in the dark, the world is still rolling,
Kids in their cars, cigarette smoking
And all that they are, just reeks with the sweetest belief.

But I let you down,
And swollen and small is where you'll find me now,
With that silver stripping off
From my tongue you're tearing out,
And you'll never hear me talk.

All I could want is silver and spinning
Out from your arms and into the pretty
Pit of your heart - so simply and softly we'd flow.

But I let you down,
And swollen and small is where you'll find me now,
With that silver stripping off
From my tongue you're tearing out,
And you'll never hear me talk.

Into you I will glow.
Into you.

  27. L.... ....

I've been a fan of NMH for about a year and a half. But the only album I listened to was aeroplane until last night when I listened to avery island in its entirety. Now I don't know which album I like more. .

    L.... ....

+Laura Thompson was it April 1st or 8th?

    L.... ....

    L.... ....

    *you're

    L.... ....

    you conformist you.

  28. A.... G....

    american SYD Barrett - mental-ness :D

    A.... G....

Syd Barretts The Madcap Laughs that is all anyone needs to hear. I agree with your statement though, that's what I thought when I heard Syd's solo album for the first time. After hearing Syd's solo album and going back and listening to Jeff's vocals and recording style, I prefer Syd over Jeff now.

  29. A.... ....

    Avery > Aeroplane

    A.... ....

Haha scrumptious vinyl that's a good youtube name

    A.... ....

    Are you insane

    A.... ....

Personally I find that aero plane has more memorable art moments also I have thing for horns

    A.... ....

    Avery = Aeroplane

  30. H.... ....

    M.... ....

    +Hot Snaxx Ha!

    M.... ....

its like... its almost like its some sort of concept album or something :o

  32. c.... m....

Jeff has this awesome way of describing disgusting things and making them sound beautiful. The scent of your sweat smells good to me. Fucking genius.

    c.... m....

    @conor mcateer powerful pistons

    c.... m....

    GANGREEEEEEEEEEEEIYYNNNNNE...

    c.... m....

Smelling of semen all over the garden...

    c.... m....

conor mcateer that verse is my favorite

    c.... m....

I want to fill your lungs with smallpox, I want to paste your skin all round the mailbox...

  33. r.... ....

ITAOTS was extremely cryptic and had very unlinear theming that was cut and pasted and made to be silly while still holding a meaning, Jeff's older stuff was a lot of songs about love and very simplistic themes, each albums have totally different things going for them and honestly any NMH fan will see that despite ITAOTS being the more well recieved album.

    r.... ....

sorry what? hard to understand you when you have jeffys dick so far down ur throat

  34. S.... A....

I truly couldnt have said it better myself. Robert Schneider's use of fuzz on the drumming of Jeremy Barnes is brilliant. I think the drumming on ITAOTS is truly underrated. But this one seems a lot more youthful. Less deep emotions, but very affectionate. I think that it has to do with how Jeff recorded this all by himself.

  35. r.... ....

ITAOTS stuck to a very basic acoustic guitar chord progression theme, so when the horn section would come in or with tracks such as king of the carrot flowers pt. 3 and holland 1945 the instrumentation was just so powerful, this album is very similar to pavement, it's a great album but ITAOTS was genius as far as production goes, although a lot of the tracks in this album are some of my favorites from NMH,

  36. M.... ....

It's ZX Spectrum vs ice-cream van. Chilling.

  37. J.... J....

This song is one of my top 3 favorite NMH songs..

  38. b.... ....

that little tune at the end is nightmare fuel

    b.... ....

Whenever i see the album cover i think of the outro

  39. F.... ....

    understatement of the century

  40. J.... K....

    its...so...beautiful...

  41. S.... A....

I personally think this is too different from ITAOTS to say one is "better". I love them both equally.

  42. S.... A....

This is the greatest comment ever made. No need to try to disprove me. it's true.

  43. A.... P....

    Ultimate Guitar

  44. S.... A....

    Sounds like Hunter S. Thompson

  45. W.... ....

This, Song Against Sex, Holland 1945 and Penny Arcade in California are totes my favorites.

  46. .... ....

But you wouldn't have heard of it...

  47. t.... ....

    Should be a hit now!

  48. M.... T....

pleb needs a taste of music

  49. j.... ....

Does anyone else see how this song is about suicide?

  50. x.... ....

    fuck, that outro is amazing

  51. P.... Y....

    0 dislikes...that's all

  52. t.... ....

@Mynamesbob8 I'm afraid not, my friend. NMH is good, but not THAT good.

  53. M.... ....

You mean Modest Mouse opening for Neutral Milk man.

  54. n.... ....

NMH Opening for Modest Mouse would have been the best show to be played ever.

    n.... ....

My two favorite bands! I always thought I was crazy for feeling like the two bands are similar but maybe I was right.

  55. P.... ....

My friend played Aeroplane for me and from that moment I was HOOKED. I turned another friend onto this band and when she played this song in her coffeshop and people would ask her who it was. My former boss did the same thing. These guys pull you in and like the best bands you have to share it with you friends too

    P.... ....

I know your comment is 5 years old but I totally agree

  56. g.... ....

love Aeroplane but I have to say I prefer this album

  57. D.... ....

He says he usually write really long songs and then splits them into shorter songs, so I'd imagine it is.

  58. I.... ....

We care. That's why we're arguing about it.

  59. W.... ....

not sure. i think the answer's no

  60. W.... ....

that's true but this is different music altogether. it's sloppy and lo-fi and the hook isn't as immediately striking as a song like where it's at. maybe something like "in the aeroplane over the sea" would work but jeff mangum has a divisive voice and even that's kind of a stretch. they'd need to clean up a whole lot to get huge success.

  61. I.... ....

Well, there's tons of reasons a band might never breakthrough, but he was saying this stuff COULD have, and I agree with him. Bands like the Ramones and Big Star also could have broke through, but didn't for reasons separate to the music. The Butthole Surfers, Beck, and Radiohead all made the charts post-Nirvana, for Christ's sake.

  62. L.... ....

I've got to agree. I was a huge fan (and still am!) at the time of this release, but it never had a prayer of major commercial potential. It just doesn't have the kinds of hooks they were pushing on alternative radio at the time.

  63. W.... ....

but it came out in the mid-90's and didn't do that. you see in the description "From ON AVERY ISLAND © 1996" right? i just saw jeff mangum and neutral milk hotel are one my favorite bands but it never happened.

  64. I.... ....

Come on. This song could have conceivably hit the charts in the mid 90s. It would have been a little weird, but let's not pretend it's black metal or mathcore.

  65. W.... ....

it came out in the 90s? and it didnt chart??

  66. W.... ....

lol no it couldn't have. i love neutral milk hotel but this music's never gonna touch mainstream charts

  67. K.... K....

Where can I find out the chords for this beautiful song?

  68. s.... l....

On Avery Island is a very special album. I don't understand why Aeroplane gets all the credit.

  69. x.... ....

    nonsensical comment

  70. V.... ....

The imagery that they create is unbelievable

  71. N.... ....

    my favorite

  72. L.... ....

    very good sir.

  73. T.... V....

    Everyone barks

  74. b.... ....

    blastoid.

  75. J.... D....

to tear out your heart would send all your secrets to me.
