National, The - Sleep Well Beast Lyrics
We've been stuck out here in the hallway for way way too long
I'm at a loss, I'm at a loss, losing grip, the fabrics rip
Go back to sleep, let me drive, let me think, let me figure it out
How to get us back to the place where we were when we first went out
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
Losing parents, losing sense
I don't know what we should do
Became a father when I was still a son, she brings it out in you
See you at the end of the party with your wild, wide eyes
Filling up the teacup with gin and your secret postcard life
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
We'll leave our saviors wrapped around immense new machines
We're at the ends of threads that hold their bodies to the ground
And then a man who looks a little and liked and felt like me
Offered them some bottled water, then they cut them down
I came back to see if you were here, but everything was different
Your voice was low, blended in, I could barely hear you speak
You were always my last second, last ride in the distance
Thought that we were something good
That I would always keep
I'll still destroy you some day, sleep well beast, you as well beast
I'll still destroy you some day, sleep well beast, you as well beast
I'll still destroy you some day, sleep well beast, you as well beast
I'll still destroy you some day, sleep well beast, you as well beast

National, The Sleep Well Beast Comments
You were always my last second bright spot in the distance
Thought that you were something good that I would always keep
I'll still destroy you some day, sleep well beast, you as well beast...
nice to see they included the American football house in the video.
I'm getting huge Múm vibes from this and I love it.
The best band ever!
Sleep Well Beast is The National's Kid A, can't wait to see what they do next.
My mantra the last two years
The radioheadnalization of the ex-great group The National.
Let me figure it out, how to get us back to the place where we were when we first went out...😔
well nobody posted the lyrics yet so....
[Verse 1]
We've been stuck out here in the hallway for way way too long
I'm at a loss, I'm at a loss, I'm losing grip, the fabric's ripped
Go back to sleep, let me drive, let me think, let me figure it out

[Chorus]
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
[Verse 2]
Losing parents, losing sense
I don't know what we should do
Became a father when I was still a son, she brings it out in you
See you at the end of the party with your wild white eyes
Filling up the teacup with gin in your secret postcard life
[Chorus]

I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
I'll tell you about it some time, the time we left
[Instrumental]
[Verse 3]
We leave our saviors wrapped around the necks of new machines
Or at the ends of threads that hold their bodies to the ground
And then the men who look a little like they feel like me
Offered them some bottled water, then they cut them down
I came back to see if you were here, but everything was different
Your voice was low, you blended in, I could barely hear you speak
You were always my last second bright spot in the distance
Thought that you were something good
That I would always keep
I'll still destroy you someday, sleep well, beast; you as well, beast
I'll still destroy you someday, sleep well, beast; you as well, beast
I'll still destroy you someday, sleep well, beast; you as well, beast

I fucking miss my dad.
The Premiere CC timeline for this video must be absolutely colossal
This band just twists my whiskers.
This song is beyond perfection. They deserve a Grammy
No concerts near me. Waaahhh!
more than 1/3 are dislikes.. WHAT THE HELL IS HAPPENING??? can someone explain??!
Иннокентий Навзлётов some people don’t find the beauty in music and only listen to Sam Smith and Lil Nas X and shit.. Sleep Well Beast is a masterpiece to me. I also enjoy I Am Easy To Find but I listen to this album especially this song in the night.
i just couldnt get into this album. i went back to listening to U2 instead
Best Album ever.
Thirty seconds in and I am shaken. The National translates the dark depths of my soul into hypnotic visuals and melodies before I have even felt the darkness myself. Loved this band since the beginning and I have never felt more moved by them - I am completely sucked into this masterpiece. Thank you for being such authentic creators, guys.
¿En serio esto ganó un grammy?
Natali Daza No voy a discutir contigo porque cada quién tiene gustos diferentes pero The Nacional se merece algo más que un Grammy.
Es mejor esto que tu reguecaca :v y no me importa si te gusta o no
Straight from the grammys
congratz
Why so many dislikes??
Enjoy the song and stop caring about dislikes, just a number :)
Muy buena, gracias.
I cant get jiggy to this shit

Every music video has been special. Well deserved Grammy, guys!
my beast is sleeping in a cage too :(
Honestly this is my least fav track on this album, but Sleep Well Beast is still an amazing album 😊😊
We loving it
I wasn't quite sure what they were going to do for the video for sleep well beast, honestly, it was just super experimental and bippy/boopy, but this was a phenomenal choice.
The worst song on the album
Sleep well beast is like the end of everything.
I think that the entire album tells about the love story. All the steps - from first meeting ("dark side of the gym") to hate / boringness ("sleep well beast", "guilty party" and "day I die")
I actually want to make a video about this story, I think it will be kinda interesting
Fantastic song, reminds me of Kid A.
O atrevimento, o...., e a beleza!!!
На удивление самый слабый альбом в их дискографии..
Missing:
01 - Nobody Else Will Be There
03 - Walk It Back
05 - Born to Beg
06 - Turteneck
07 - Empire Line
I hope The National will finish their video series. A complete 'Sleep Well Beast' movie would be nice.
Is there a name for what the film technique used in this video is?
Amazingography
Just alot of quick cuts with alot of color grading
Freeze frame and high exposure followed by video overlays
Utterly entrancing!
This song reminds me so much of Kid A and Amnesiac.
Love the album, but this is not my favourite song (I used to skip it), although it does get better every time I hear it, it really does. But the video is just amazing! I'm waiting for the clip for Empire Line: my favourite SWB song!
WHERES NOBODY ELSE WILL BE THERE 😭🌹
stephanie charlotte Buy the album.

phenomenal
Good job, The National!
this is one of the top songs from SWB (actually this is my 3rd favourite album next to Trouble Will Find me and Boxer) but i still have one complaint: WHY THE FUCK HAVEN'T THEY RELEASED A VIDEO FOR TURTLENECK!
makes my heart big and small at the same time ♡
They were incredible live
cada dia eu amo mais vocês
Their best album ever!
Amo a esta banda nos vemos en la CDMX el 23 de Enero 2018...
Vendrán también este año!!!

Tell me about it sometime
definitely one of the somgs that made me the most emotional at the concert a couple weeks ago.. listening to any of the songs they played there just takes me back to that amazing feeling, really my personal favourite album of 2017
time to leave my "I love this band" comment
no need. 100s other people will do it for you
What a song.
pure art, god bless
I wish they had kept up this level of experimentation on the rest of the album
Easily the best song on this album and easily Matt's greatest vocals
David Kriz The moment where I was sold on Matt's vocals were when he reaches for his lower registers singing "I'll Still Destroy You Best, sleep well beast"
I'll Still Destroy You is a contender for my favorite song ever so nah, not 'easily'. Great album, sighhhh
I'll still destroy you someday. Sleep well beast, you as well beast
U know this song is about Donald trump
@new ripple effect cringe
@Buste123 it is.
Mi tema favorito del LP
a well deserved grammy nominations for best Alternative album
Definitely! I reckon they're gonna win it. Either them or Father John Misty's Pure Comedy.
They won and I'm really happy about it
despite some bad results (ed sheeran don't deserve those grammys) we got a few good results
Me too, I mean, I've never cared about the Grammys because I've always believed they were wrong, but I got so happy to hear the news the other day, because it's my favorite album from last year.
I never watch them but I like to see the results. It was nice to see. The album came out while I was working construction saving up for school and I just kinda feel nostalgic about those days even tho it was only a few months ago.
Jonathan Daniel the album is very nostalgic for me too, as it came out when I was starting my senior year of school. It reminds me of all the new faces I was meeting at the time, and all the friendships I had that no longer exist. Just reminds my life at the time...it's an emotional album for me for sure, but I love it a lot. I'm so happy that I own it on a physical LP format (blue vinyl, no less!), because it makes the album all the more special for me.
Well...that happened.
I'm Happy and sad at the same time, The National's music has this effect on me, I love it!!
One of my favs from the album.
MY FAVE SONG
Divine. Beautiful. Mesmerizing.
at first glance at the video I thought my video card is broken lol
Now it's been out a while I can definitely say this is one of The Nationals best albums they've put out. A lot of people were disappointed but I think it's fantastic.
I don't know Like mum
Yep. I like it, it's just not their best work to me.
Justin Bellavia couldn't agree more.
I don't understand how anyone doesn't like it, its different from the old stuff up to boxer and superior to their last albums imo.
How could anyone be disappointed? They must love listening to Donnie & Marie or John Denver.
what a closer to a great album
love you.
GIDDY UP!
😍😍
Yay 😊❤️😊 I’ve been hoping for this for a while
