Natasha, Pierre & The Great Comet Of 1812 Original Broadway Cast - Sonya Alone Lyrics
[Sonya:]
Hard as it is
In the coming days
I watch my friend
In her strange unnatural state
She trails off
Stares at nothing
Laughs at random
And the letters come
She waits by the window
And I listen at the door
Until one day
I see by the sad look on her face
There is a dreadful plan in her heart
I know you are capable of anything
I know you so well my friend
I know you might just run away
What am I to do?
Who do I ask for help?
Is it all on me?
Is it all on me?
I will stand in the dark for you
I will hold you back by force
I will stand here right outside your door
I won't see you disgraced
I will protect your name and your heart
Because I miss my friend
I know you've forgotten me
I know you so well my friend
I know you might just throw yourself over
But I won't let you
I won't let you
It's all on me
And I remember this family
I remember their kindness
And if I never sleep again
I will stand in the dark for you
I will hold you back by force
I will stand here right outside your door
I won't see you disgraced
I will protect your name and your heart
Because I miss my friend
Because I miss my friend
Because I miss you, my friend

Fuck this hits hard
Oh no I'm alone
Thanks!!!! I'm crying in drawing class!!
We should all be this kind of friend for someone.
This could also be a song about dementia
Since I had never known anything about the musical before hearing this song the first time, to me it gave the impression of a heartbroken woman trying to stop her best friend from committing suicide after a tragic loss. I then went and listened to the whole musical to get context, and it's quite different, but I still like that interpretation
to me this is just the perfect song to listen to when it’s the middle of the night in the middle of winter. it just gives off that tone. the most underrated song in the show for sure
This song screams alto rights
In a weird situation where I find myself listening to this song when I'm worrying about friends. Some I crush on, some I only love as friends. But every time I hear this song it makes me sad but it clears my head so I can help them in anyway I need to.
I'm so emotional rn don't touch me
Something about this voice reminds me of In Trousers. But I love this musical so far it is amazing. This song has alot of emotion and I love songs like this.
*god damn it*
Make sure to hydrate so you can cry extra long at this song
Why am I crying in the club right now?
cries in brittain
coming back to this soundtrack after a year and crying... fun times dkdksk
I want to hold her hand :(
I wish to care for someone as much as Sonya cares for Natasha, and vice versa.
Someone who’s willing to risk it all just for you be to be safe.
We goin ✈️ sad hours
Sonya Alonya
who else is listening on 9/3 while crying
ah my favorite song; "gay for my cousin"
Atlas Wilde what
Nah it's just friendship. A really good friendship can be more worth than a romance.
Last I checked this didn't take place in Alabama.
she really sounds like one of the ladies from ghost quartet
That's because it is! Brittain Ashford, she's otherworldly :)
"Sonya in the bathroom, Sonya in the bathroom at a opera"
*SONYA MAKES ME CRY*
#SaveSonya1812
#sonyaprotectionsqaud
Brittain's voice is like the epitome of the middle of autumn??? i adore her so much
omg yes
You ever gave that moment when your left brain goes "that makes absolutely no sense" and your right brain is saying "I so get what you mean!"
Listening to this album for the first time. Saw the title and was like, oh this is the Michael in the Bathroom/On My Own/Good For You/Kindergarten Boyfriend Song, isn't it?
You mean the second act supporting character breakdown song? Definitely.
@Sarah Hamilfan I am looking at your name and I'm wondering the Hamilton equivalent for the "second act supporting character breakdown song"(which is, like, seriously valid 😂). Would it be The Reynolds Pamphlet, Burn, or It's Quiet Uptown?
@Madeline Adair Burn, definitely.
The second act act supporting character breakdown song would be a ballad sung halfway through the second act by a supporting character who is very close to the protagonist (usually a best friend) who is hurt directly because of stupid decisions the protagonist makes. Usually this supporting character is the person who is most important to the protagonist in the beginning of a the show, but gets forgotten as the protagonist gets caught up in the action of the plot. This song has the function in the show to make either the protagonist or the audience aware of the negative influence the protagonist's rash behaviour has on the people around them. (It's really mind-blowing how specific you can get with these common tropes!)
Burn fits all of these qualifications. The Reynolds Pamphlet is more of the: "the main character really fucked up and now has to face the consequences" song, in line with Words Fail (DEH), Yo Girl (Heathers), and Charity (Daddy Long Legs). It is not about a certain supporting character who is hurt by Hamilton's actions, but more about Hamilton's stupidity. It's Quiet Uptown, while it might seem so, is not a song about being hurt. It's a song about healing. Philip's death has such a big influence on the Hamiltons' lives that it forces them to set aside their previous fights and find a way through together. Plot-wise the song serves to bring Eliza and Alexander back together, not to break them up, like a "second act supporting character breakdown song" would.
@Sarah Hamilfan True, but Eliza's a main character, so I was just wondering since Angelica was most heavily involved in The Reynolds Pamphlet and It's Quiet Uptown because she's supporting.
Burn is definitely the breakdown song, though.
The main character really fucked up and has to face the consequences song in Great Comet is probably In My House, or maybe Pierre & Natasha.
@Madeline Adair I'd say it's In My House!
i love her voice *so* *fucking* *MUCH*
This is the first song in musical history to make me cry. BTW I've like listened to 14 different musicals. This one is so beautiful and shows a great perspective of sonya. SONYA MY BABYYY
This sounds like "Meant to be yours" but in a calmer, (and saner JD) way.
"I know you have forgotten.... Me" my eyes are sweating
I love Lana Del Rey!
I love this song. It's one of my favorites in the soundtrack. When I die someday, I would like this played at my funeral by one of my friends.
2:50 ... *_Y’ALL_*
THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL OH MY GOD I'M GONNA CRY
This is such a,beautiful song with such a beautiful voice singing it.
she really deserved a tony nomination for this tbh
I'm getting Burn vibes from this.
I AM AM SOBBING SO HARD RIGHT NOW THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL
SONYA ALONYA

Michael in the bathroom who ?
Mels Henry Michael's weave is on Saturn
Yesyesyes!! Michael in the bathroom is more of a self-loathing song and an admission of defeat. It really gets me emotional, but nothing compares to the crying that goes on when I hear Sonya Alone. Sonya is always seen as an “attachment” to Natasha, and she’s had a difficult life. But here, instead of bemoaning her loneliness, we see her actually GAINING power. We finally see her take authority to protect and save her friend. Sonya isn’t giving up on Natasha, unlike Michael and Jeremy. Even after being forgotten, Sonya is willing to sacrifice everything for Natasha’s safety, even if that means being hated by her friend. She knows this value so well, and understands what true friendship is - caring about someone’s life more than your own at times. And she’s fine with being despised and hurt and staying awake in the darkness forever, just to shelter someone who has abandoned her.
That’s the truest friendship out there.
Sonya in the latrine/water closet

Michael who you don't know
#SonyafortheGrammyAward
She deserves an award after all of that bullshit she went through
Well Said :)
My god I love Brittain
Michael in the bathroom by himseeeeelf.
Oh wait
Oh No Dude, I know what they said was a little rude, but please don't refer to this, or any musical 'shitty'. Both are great musicals, but it's just that The Great Comet was around for a very long time, and so, had more time to improve. Although you might be mad at their comment, the director and actors/ company put their heart, souls, and minds into this production. So please don't refer to it as that again, have a good day/afternoon/evening/night.
T_Sanai I mean I was pretty much doing the same thing Amelia did, just for this musical. Yeah, I used stronger language, but the message is the same. I am actually a fan of The Great Comet, I just can't stand to see people talk shit without expecting retaliation. I mean I don't really see the difference between calling a musical 'shitty' and saying one is a 'plague' and 'trash.' I also don't see why you need to bring up why Great Comet is more improved than BMC, since, you know, opinions are subjective? Is it okay to call one musical trash because it has pop music and isn't about "deep" topics? Is it okay to call a musical trash just because you don't like it, but the musicals you do like are sacred and can't be insulted? Anyways, have a good weekend.
+Oh No I'm not saying that Amelia isn't wrong either. What I'm saying is that neither musicals deserve to be insulted, due to how neither of you know what it's like to be in an actual production that is on Broadway, and neither of you have a say in judgement for either. I pointed out that TGC had more time to improve than BMC, which is why, in my opinion, I like TGC better. I'm not hating on neither, but you both were in the wrong for insulting two pretty good musicals. And you too, thank you
I was looking for this comment
@T_Sanai * As a fan of BMC, I agree. Like, I love both, but nothing can hold a candle to Great Comet. Be More Chill is something poppy, and is more relatable to me than Great Comet, probably because I'm kind of around the same age as the people in it. But, Great Comet has amazing music, had an amazing setting, and I don't even know how it closed ;-;
#1 guaranteed way to induce heavy crying
why am i crying in the club rn
d w That sounds like what Pierre would comment
It's Pierre's ultimate mood
Pierre's *_infinate_* mood.
Ih8Soder :C *infinte
Fuck everyone else, Sonya is my love.
Saw the show recently where Sonya is being portrayed by Ingrid Michaelson and when this song came on it was all the more perfect for her
Casually crying at 1 am don't mind me
CassieIsTrash 12 pm for me.
CassieIsTrash go away onion chopping nijad
nice pic
also, I would love to hear Solange sing this, or perhaps play Sonya
That's so random but sensible.
Can you imagine how incredible a Great Comet mixtape would be?
Her voice is like Indie Butter 😍😍😍
WELL SAID
The song that was set to come next, if I had autoplay on, is 'Good for You' from Dear Evan Hansen. Enough said, I think.
Aura Sweet
I've absolutely fallen in love with Brittain Ashford's voice. *Looks up everything she's done*
Shakeema Edwards stream merry Christmas love
I can only hope to be this sort of friend, and I can only hope to have someone like this in my life. This is one of the rawest songs I've heard in a long time ❤️ This show is so good!
samee T.T
Why is this song so underrated???
Because the whole musical is.
I've listen to this for 5 hours now
Is it part of the character to mumble and slur all the words? Serious question. I like the song.
비옌이 It's the style of the actress singing the song (Brittain Ashford). She has a very unique voice.
비옌이 i love how she sometimes sounds like she's kind of yodelling???? if you get what i'm saying gosH i love her voice
비옌이 it's half her voice and half the song. A lot of Sonyas parts were written specifically for Ashford, especially this song. She has a very unique voice, and the song is also supposed to be very sad and longing, which attributes to the sort of mumbling and slurring you referred to
in the common daysh
You know how sometimes you listen to a sound track and you just aren't really feeling it? Like, it's good and all but you haven't found *that* song?
Found it.
me too.. all these songs haven't really spoken to me.. and the story has seemed very... not good? I really feel for Sonya though.
Hahaha, it makes sense if there are people who arent as intrigued with the story line. Its based off an old Russian novel, "War and Peace" by Leo Tolstoy which is a classic piece of literature - unfortunately, not many people enjoy those sorts of novels anymore ):
These sort of novels are pretty cliche.. ;P
Mallery Haha, I understand what you mean :)
Star Whale no the song is dust and ashes

Cooper Ellis I think we all need a friend like Sonya
thank you for this 👍
not all heroes wear capes
Initially I thought that this song was boring as it's not as original as the others, but it's really grown on me since. Her voice is INCREDIBLE, you can really hear Sonya's concern for Natasha
Steph Piano oh her voice is "incredible" alright.
Seriously why am I the only one who can't stand Brittain Ashfords voice, or at least in Great Comet? She sounds so whiny and pronounces everything so weirdly compared to literally everyone else it's just gross imo. I don't mind the character of Sonya herself but I really don't think Ashford did her justice
I personally quite like her voice, but I can definitely see why you wouldn't. It is pretty unique; bit of an acquired taste.
Jake Smith listen bitch
@egg thicc muffin some people just have different opinions
b r o o ke ik
This may just be my favorite song in the show. Brittain Ashford is otherworldly.
