Naked Eyes - Low Life Lyrics

You said you came
From a train
Your dreams are wild
You're still a child

You said the streets were paved with gold
But you're the one that's bought and sold
All your friends meet nasty ends you say

Girls are working hard all day
To get a drink[?] or two
The boys are hustling away
As their protectors do

You said the streets were paved with gold
But you're the one that's bought and sold
All your friends meet nasty ends you say

Low life
Low life
Low life
Low life

You said you came
From a train
Your dreams are wild
You're still a child

You said the streets were paved with gold
But you're the one that's bought and sold
All your friends meet nasty ends you say

Low life
Low life
Low life
Low life

Low life (the girls are working hard all day)
Low life (to get a drink or two)
Low life (the boys are hustling away)
Low life (as their protectors do)

Low life (the girls are working hard all day)
Low life (to get a drink or two)
Low life (the boys are hustling away)
Low life (as their protectors do)

Low life (the girls are working hard all day)
Low life (to get a drink or two)
Low life (the boys are hustling away)
Low life (as their protectors do)

Such a wonderful decade in music and my all-time favorite as well. Also, whenever I listen to that trumpet solo, I think of wandering New York City or Chicago in the dark night under the city lights. So beautiful <3

I love Naked Eyes! Just recently started listening again....I'm really into 'Voices in my Head' and 'When the Lights Go Out'

Oh, rats, it looks like the Dead Milkemen did "Bitchin' Camaro"...could've sworn it was the Butthole Surfers...

Well, I'll just keep commenting here, so you know someone's listening...such a departure from some of the nonsense lyrics that were so loveable in the 80s...The Hawaiian Pups with "Baby Judy", the Butthole Surfers with "Bitchin' Camaro", and a score of others which I still adore, because as a kid I didn't understand the meaning of the more poignant lyrics anyway.  One would think that would have prepared me for today, when the edgiest lyrics are in rap, while the White World seems to be caught up in nostalgia with teenagers and teasers like Lady Gaga, who has such a cutting-edge rep, but never does anything remotely controversial with her vapid songs.  Who cares what she wears?  Her songs themselves are as disposable as Kleenex. We've seen it all before.  Now how about something I can sink my teeth into, like some of this ancient music?

What, again??  This is the second time this week I've looked up an awesome song from my childhood and expected a thousand people to have commented, only to find NOTHING...Gritty but gorgeous sound from Naked Eyes...So glad you posted it!
