My Dying Bride - Failure Lyrics

[The Swans cover]

I've been lonely
And I have been blind
And I... I've learned nothing
So my hands are firmly tied
To the sinking leadweight of failure

I've worked hard all my life
Money slips through my hands
My face in the mirror tells me
It's no surprise that I'm
Pushing the stone up the hill of failure

They tempt me with violence
They punish me with ideals
And they crush me with an image of my life
That's nothing but unreal
Except on the goddamned slaveship of failure

I'll drown here trying
To get up for some air
But each time I think I breathe
I'm laid on with a double share
of the punishing burden of failure

I don't deserve to be down here
But I'll never leave
And I've learned one thing
You can't escape the beast
In the null and void pit of failure

When I get my hands on some money
I'll kiss it's green skin
And I'll ask it's dirty face
"Where have you been?"
"I am the fuel that fires the engine of failure."

I'll be old and broken down
I'll forget who and where I am
I'll be senile or forgotten
But I'll remember and understand
You can't bank your hard-earned money on failure

I saw my father crying
I saw my mother break her hand
On a wall that wouldn't weep
But that certainly held in
The mechanical moans of a dying man that was a failure

My back hurts when I bend
Because I carry a load
My brain hurts me like a knife-hole
Because I've yet to be shown
How to pull myself out from
The sucking quicksand of failure

Some people live in hell
Many bastards succeed
But I. I've learned nothing
I can't even elegantly bleed
Out the poison blood of failure

Its good but I preferred the original

  9. g.... t....

This is great. No, Stainthorpe's vocals AREN'T identical to Gira's...but it's a cover, and I think he dredges the same depths.

Will people stop complaining about it and shutup? Wouldn't even know it was a cover if you heard it randomly. I've been listening to MDB for 20 years and Swans for 15, this is freaking perfect.

Very bad compared to the original

but the Voice is very similar to Michael Gyra....really similar compared to best song of "White Light from the mouth of infinity" my fav album of Swans....simply a good cover...not much pesonalised in the way of M.D.Bride mood...

I'm afraid I agree. And yes it doesn't have a signature style, I don't know why Aaron decided to do this.

    Great Coverversion!!!!

  14. L.... ....

Funny, I'm currently in a bit of a Swans kick and only now do I learn that one of my favorite bands has covered them. Granted, White Light it...well, let's just say it's not my favorite Swans album and leave it at that. But Failure is a great song, and I think MDB did a decent job with it. Not a whole lot you can do with a song as sparse as this one though, so it's a surprise that this cover doesn't fall flat on its face. It gets an OK from me.

So I should NOT get Evinta right just wandering =)

  17. i.... ....

decent cover but i like the original better because of gira's vocals

  18. O.... M....

Good time with this one :)

  19. 4.... ....

@looony93 Evinta...yeah not ever going to be everyones cup of tea, then again I guess 34.788% burst a lot of bubbles too. I respect them for doing what they do and appreciate Evinta for what it is. It's a little long and 3CDs is much for the dark expanse but as to what you expected it to achieve in refernce to it's (rather ironic given the subject matter here) failure, I'm not sure.

    4.... ....

34.788% Complete is, to this day, my favorite MDB album. And that's from a dude whose been a fan since Turn Loose the Swans.

  20. 4.... ....

@bloodyrockfire Swans did monotonous progression and little else. Unlike Evinta this is a cover not a reinterpritation.

  21. L.... G....

I love this cover, mainly because it is less likely to make me kill myself than the original.

    L.... G....

    Light Weight!

  22. N.... ....

    No thank you.

  23. S.... W....

Swans version is better, but the violins give this one a nice touch

  24. m.... ....

rhis is a good cover, it does have emotion, but not nearly as much as michael gira

  25. g.... ....

i like this cover! i think it has a lot of feeling!

  26. J.... ....

    Solid version.
