Muse - Hoodoo Lyrics
Come into my life
Regress into a dream
We will hide
And build a new reality
Draw another picture
Follow your instincts
And choose the other path
You should never be afraid
You're protected from trouble and pain
Why, why is this a crisis in your eyes again
Come to be
How did it come to be
Tied to a railroad
Watch our souls fade away
And our bodies crumble away
Don't be afraid
I will take the blow for you
I have had recurring nightmares
That I was loved for who I am
And missed the opportunity
To be a better man

Muse Hoodoo Comments
Fans always say Muse are better live than in the studio but I kinda feel that Matt should stick with singing the way he does in the studio version here. It is too much " ageeeiiiyyyuuuoouun" live instead of
" again ". As a long time Muse fan it pisses me off when he kermit the frog sings some of the songs because I know he can sing normal like in the studio and it sounds waaaaaay better. I just hope that he change back his way of singing like he did until 2007.
The beginning reminds me a bit of radiohead.
The very first verse somehow makes me think about Inception. Anyone?
Bir şarkı tarafından güvende hissettirilmek...
Do anyone know the story behind this song or what was this song written for?
for anyone who thinks god doesnt exist, where do you think Matt Bellamy's voice came from?
Does anyone know what style of guitar is being done from 0:25 to 1:13?
NightKnight surf rock. a lot of reverb and chorus. basically clean pedals and striking dynamic chord progressions
NightKnight also using a whammy bar
UNDERRATED!!!!
The way the orchestra enters at "you should never be afraid".... 💓😱
Back when Muse used to make great stuff.
All their stuff is great imo
This is so sad
sooo is this bhar's screenager?
UNDERRATED!
wanna be in a really intense shootout rn
Thanks muse for this song. It’s like a theme song for my life 🖤
Murathan Akın❤
no falsetto... ;-;
You should never be afraid🐯
This and darkshines are my favs💝
Yeah i adore both of them too, they have a darker side to them with matt screaming and different guitar style, i love it.
OK, great tastes here. Both track really have something special, something you can't really explain but that really touches you deeply.
Hoodoo was one of the first songs that I experienced, that and Unintended. And when I heard those my freaking soul knew I made one of the best decisions of my life. MUSE is a part of my life and it enhances it in every way. Their music is DIVINE one of the best and last truly gifted, technical, in depth, purposeful bands out there. There’s not a single song of theirs that doesn’t have a soul and purpose. I love muse
This song makes me horny
I hear some inspiration from Chopin's nocturne op 9 No 2.
I used to hate this song, but recently I fell in love with it.
Oh, how I love drama !!! And so I dare say: If all drama in the world equals cheese sandwich then this song equals pizza.
mmMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMmm i love it
This song would fit Twin Peaks perfectly
Liszt? Is that you?
i love this♥♥
BRs ai?
✨✨✨😒
This is such a special song in so many ways
this is a "dream" song, like someone is talking to you in your lonely sleep and you think it's your subconscious, but it's Matthew Bellamy from the real world
Years later, I still think this is one of the most genius tracks of all time. The second half literally blows me away and makes me well up every single time.
does anyone else here the classical influence? especially the song Leyenda by Andres Segovia
MUSE1795 YES!!
official. this is in my top 3 heart breaking songs. (one of the others is hyper chondriac music anyway)
sameee!!!!
2:59 😍
Beautiful lyrics, awesome instrumental and vocal performance, but it's not a single so it went underrated :(
sometimes Muse's better songs are the lesser known ones
oftentimes :)
All the times :D
@Ian Oosthuizen ignoring hysteria though.
don't be afraid.................
Farouk Aditya you're protected from trouble and pain
@Musicanti is this a crisis?
hermosos 3 minutos de mi vida
beautiful hybrid of Rodrigo guitar concerto plus ➕ operatic wild west style tragedy unbelievably fantastic thanku muse
I see some surf rock influence
definitely at the beginning, yeah
Listen to Nancy Sinatra´s Bang Bang. I am pretty sure that is were the influences are from,.
It feels kill bill style
2:37 Is I reckon the best part of the song, just gives me goosebumps over every square inch of my body.
This was my "let it all out" song. I just cry to it when I need to and I feel better afterwards. Thank you Muse
shadow listener wander.. distant perception ..
mind tuned in .. forever stranger...
And I've had recurring nightmares, that I was loved for who I am.
Some of my favorite lyrics ever.
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
This song reminds me of Spanish music.
Specially the intro
lots of Rachmaninoff on the piano
yaassss
The Rachmanioff Tchaikovsky
Well this piano sounds a lot like Tchaikovsky piano concerto no 1. Bu then again you (Rachmaninoff) was really much influenced by Tchaikovsky so it is not surprising that you think that it sounds like you ;)
Does anyone got the explanations of the lyrics please ? ^^ (sorry for my English, I'm French)
@Gabriel Ortiz Thanks
My school used this song for our winterline show
+Angel Salas We had this song in our Marching Band show.
+Joseph Stringham is there a vid on it?
This line always hits me right in the feels, for some reason - "And I've had recurring nightmares that I was loved for who I am, and missed the opportunity to be a better man."
+Happy Typist This line might be my favorite of all muse! :D
+Σωκράτης Λάζος "For one moment I wish you'd hold your stage with no feelings at all, open minded I'm sure i used to be so free" is my favorite
-Fellow Greek ;)
Me too!
what a choon. the build up to bellamy singing like he does - along with his exceptional pianist skills. best rock band since queen (along with Placebo - best 3 bands ever. my opinion
thats kinda funny, apparently the lead singer in placebo hates matt bellamy!
I always get sort of calm, very serious and philosophical when listening to this.
You seem like a deep person. Deep people often have awesome sex quirks.
I feel the same way listening to Rush as well.
parts of it remind me of Les Miserables.
Hoodoo: You should never be afraid
The Handler: I am no longer afraid to walk alone.
+Redstone Ninja
Hoodoo : Come into...
Psycho : Your ass.
+MaXtreme91 hahaha
@Redstone Ninja hahah, sounds more like basic love or just relationship problems lyrics. The most common topic in pop and rock lyrics since forever.
Stefán Atli Jakobsson that is part of Muse’s genius though. Most songs at face value are pop-love songs, but have a lot of double entendre incorporated into them.
@MaXtreme91 I love this comment thank you
Screaming along with the lyrics so hard it makes you cry😿
😢😢😢
This song is a masterpiece, the first time I listened to it, I was blown away!
*every time I listen to it
I always cry when I listen to this song! It's amazing
I always thought the lyrics were 'and our bodies crumbling'. Mainly because I don't like the idea of rhyming away with away. AZ lyrics supports 'crumble away' though so maybe I'm wrong? What a tune though..
@Remusable I thought it was 'crumbling' too... i like 'crumbling' better xP, but yeah what a tune, one of my three favorite songs of all time actually, and definitely my favorite song from Muse.
+Remusable Anyone can submit lyrics on AZ Lyrics. If you think they're wrong you can go in and submit corrections.
Remusable it is crumbling actually, all official lyrics I’ve seen from this song says it so, I can’t hear the “away”, guess it is crumbling
It's like Turkish music :)
+Alba Clerd I'm glad :) ha
@CyprusHot pleasure i am of Persian /Turkish decent :) true kooklara
+Alba Clerd wow muse fans are fucking stupid. this is the most obvious flamenco ever.
+emilio guerid Yup Matt can play spanish guitar and he often uses spanish stuff
Fuck, a Rubber Duck
This is one of the best Muse songs out there, imho. It has unusual instrumentation ( classical guitar), classical influences, an epic piano crecendo, unconventional song structure, and lovely ambiguous lyrics that anyone could interpret in their own way.
A lot better than the socially concious fase they're in right now, with the downright campy Resistance and 2nd Law. Not implying that I can't enjoy songs like Panic Station and that the teen angsty songs on Showbiz and OoS aren't a bit clichéed, but at least those were right from the heart. I don't feel the same way for a lot of the new Muse songs.
+puddingball
People always say this stuff about a bands new work.
@Adam ADAM YOU ARE RIDICULOUS
Completely agree.
omg this comment is written with so much elegance that it is almost as beautiful as the lyrics of this song.
Especially the unconventional structure is what makes it one of Muse’s best. Verse-chorus-verse-chorus-solo(bridge)-chorus gets quite boring and predictable.
This song would be perfect for a Quentin Tarantino movie.
There's a reason you get that feeling. Muse has lots of influence from Ennio Morricone. A masterclass movie score composer. Have you heard Knights of Cydonia live? That intro they play, is Ennio Morricone's song "The Man With A Harmonica". The Globalist's intro is pretty much a cover of his Kill Bill theme, from the whistling to the drum rhythm that follows after that. Quentin Tarantino has hired Ennio Morricone to make the music for Kill Bill(just Vol 2), Inglorious Bastards, Django Unchained, and The Hateful Eight. I hope he continues
I'm saying this so you can look up his music, Ennio Morricone also created the theme to The Good The Bad and The Ugly, The Estacy of Gold, and many others that you will for sure recognize even if the titles don't ring a bell.
Lastly, if you like that style of music, Deep Purple has a 12 minute song called April, it has a dramatic organ at the intro, and then right after that its just a long instrumental that sounds like Ennio Morricone's music style.
If you get my comment, I hope you check out these songs and lemme know what you think
okay you seriously need to watch this video just look up hoodoo will and hannibal
Listen to "The Globalist"
@Stefán Atli Jakobsson snap there... I thought the same
That's because this song is heavily inspired by Enio Morricone, a composer that regularly works with Tarantino.
Tchaikovsky, Piano concerto no.1
massively underrated. Superb.
I always picture an epic space film each time I hear this song
+Paolo Joventino Go This happens to me while listening to Muse songs, but not this one...
I'm playing KSP while listening to this. Doing some sexy aerobrakes and gravity assists / breaks
Matt's voice always puts me to sleep... it's sooo soothing <33
Sounds like Jeff Buckley
@damn shame Yeah you're right, this a fantastic song !!
Yes that is a good point, like Lilac Wine, which is written by Nina Simone, but it does sound a little bit like Buckleys version on Lilac Wine.
Lilac wiiiiiiiiine
@Stefán Atli Jakobsson That's very interesting, because if you look up the song's details in musewiki, the alternate titles section reads "Nina".
@CharlieGoesAmblin' hmmm ok. I guess that is just a coincidence. Maybe the song was written about a girl named Nina. But I don't know.
'You should never be afraid, you're protected from trouble and pain' thank you Muse, you made my day so many times.
Song has the story of spike spiegel written all over it.
*The Dragon
It's Spike The Dragon...

Cowboy Bebop, though.
i like it
Knights of cydonia
Mesmerizing
it reminds me of laughing stock by talk talk
Dat voice *_____*
This song gives me goosebumps! Muse's songs have such meaningful lyrics!
man, this song's lyrics...
Have you not heard supremacy in the 2nd law? Sounds just like Bond.
What a voice.
Matt seems sayin' "Kurt Cobain"
that piano is from a Tchaikovsky concerto isnt it? (2:00)
Yes, at least very close to it.
not bad not bad.
"doodoo"
haha yeah I love the song now though :)
"Muse do"
Well not bad but just not appealing I guess I mean sounds like some kind of witchcraft lol.
"they do"
Matt should have been a poet too
the begining is an odd style but then its amazing
I didn't give this song a chance cause of the stupid name. I regret it now though, most definately a favourite from the album.
I hear a lot of Exogenesis part 2 in this song, it's really interesting
Yet another amazing song from Muse!
