Moyet, Alison - The Windmills Of Your Mind Lyrics

Round, like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel.
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever spinning wheel
Like a snowball down a mountain
Or a carnival balloon
Like a carousel that's turning
Running rings around the moon

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Like a tunnel that you follow
To a tunnel of its own
Down a hollow to a cavern
Where the sun has never shone
Like a door that keeps revolving
In a half forgotten dream
Or the ripples from a pebble
Someone tosses in a stream.

Like a clock whose hands are sweeping
Past the minutes on its face
And the world is like an apple
Whirling silently in space
Like the circles that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Keys that jingle in your pocket
Words that jangle in your head
Why did summer go so quickly
Was it something that you said
Lovers walking along the shore,
Leave their footprints in the sand
Is the sound of distant drumming
Just the fingers of your hand

Pictures hanging in a hallway
And a fragment of a song
Half remembered names and faces
But to whom do they belong
When you knew that it was over
In the autumn of goodbyes
For a moment
You could not recall the color of his eyes

Like a circle in a spiral
Like a wheel within a wheel
Never ending or beginning,
On an ever spinning wheel
As the images unwind
Like the circle that you find
In the windmills of your mind

Very nice lines of this song

  7. R.... S....

RIP M. Michel Legrand, a Great French Composer 💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞💞

  8. M.... J....

Stunningly dreadful version by Alison Moyet no warmth no passion sounds like a woman with too much testosterone in her voice 👎🏻

    M.... J....

I'm an Alison Moyet fan, but I must agree. The best female version of this song is Dusty Springfield's imo. But the original version from the film will always be my favourite.

    M.... J....

@Bill Sugden I have to disagree. I love this version from Alison Moyet. I feel it far more and really 'get' the movie.

    M.... J....

you give no reason for your opinion, could you expand? apart from the testosterone comment which obviously has no relevance.

    M.... J....

@Claire Reichel Reasons for a very subjective feeling. OK I'll try my best. Alison has a great blues voice and I like most of her stuff , but every now and then she'll try an old standard or ballad and it doesn't seem to work. Either she's working too hard to make it distinctly her own, or the key is out of her comfort zone. This is not a hate against Alf, she has the perfect voice for some songs, but a singer needs to sell a song to the audience as well as hit the right notes.

  9. .... ....

Awesome.

  14. e.... ....

When poetry was Poetry. Then were such times, really. So believe.

  15. B.... M....

Today's young men could learn from this film.
If they were as smooth as Steve McQueen, maybe we wouldn't need a MeToo movement.
    Again, I say .....Maybe.

    B.... M....

Would it? I would like to see this movie. Never seen it, but this song...I listen to it often. Beautiful.

  16. B.... M....

Alison sings it from the Woman's
    perspective.

  17. R.... D....

A wonderful composer,a sensitive lyricist, and a great singer produce this masterpiece of a song.Every time I hear it I just want to cry,,,,

  18. S.... T....

Loved her voice since I was 16... I’m 51 and she doesn’t disappoint. She pairs Steve the man McQueen and Faye Dunaway footage is genius... visually beautiful and audio perfection 🤗❤️👍🍁🍂⏳⌛️🌊🚗

  19. M.... A....

When your happy you enjoy the music. When your sad you understand the lyrics.

  20. R.... H....

    Beautiful...

  21. .... ....

  22. o.... b....

Why we can't forget those words..this song.. her voice

  23. R.... R....

This song is like cotton candy. It taste so sweet and you can't get enough of it and you eat so much you eventually become sick and can't stand the sight of it. The melody dissolves like gossamer in the wind and lyrics that fool you into thinking you are listening to something much more that self-absorbed utterly meaningless rubbish. The movie scenes of two utterly reprehensible characters only add to your dislike of it after it's over.

  24. b.... ....

No one ever comes close to the great Steve McQueen.

  25. h.... ....

Lovely, but Dusty Springfield owns thia song forever.

  26. S.... M....

Hiba Tawajis "La bidayi wla nihayi" sounds exactly the same as this

    S.... M....

  27. D.... H....

    Faye dunaway..stunning

  28. C.... C....

    Sorry, but no.

  29. L.... C....

She sings as well as Barbra Streisand, Sting, Dusty Springfield - as all artists who interpreted this titel ... someone in his own and personal way --- they all are unforgettable, just like this song of Michel Legrand.

  30. M.... ....

try to compare any of the shit today to this!!!!

  31. p.... l....

Why did summer go so quickly, was it something that you said?

  32. F.... B....

Sorry but Jose still owns this song ...no matter how many people try it.All the respect to Moyet as well...but Jose Feliciano just has that special pitch to his sound that fits this song perfectly :)

  33. A.... A....

There are many versions of this beautiful song and choosing the best cover, I believe, is a matter of personal taste or preference. Personally, there are many versions that I like, this one included and the one by Corinne Drewery of the Swing Out Sisters. Thanks for posting.

  42. F.... B....

the way she sings this song is better than the original song which very very very rare

  43. W.... M....

best version ever - and I seem to know all..

  44. a.... h....

Thank you, from Japan, for providing lyrics. Very helpful indeed. But I'm sorry to say this.
"Tunnel of it's own" should be "its own," and "minutes on it's face" should be "on its face."

  45. T.... D....

Nowadays we know that heavenly bodies are not whirling SILENTLY in space.
    They make perceptible noises.
Planets, black holes, pulsars and quasars ... Etc.
They all make noise. In the wind Mills of our measuring instruments.

    T.... D....

    It's metaphorically ;-) :-).

  46. a.... ....

This song was sung originally by Noel Harrison Rex Harrison son

My english teacher used to play this song on an old tape player. He used all of his soul and emotion while singing and dancing it in class. He even used to draw circles on the blackboard to make us understand the deep meaning of the lyrics.I heard this song randomly on radio yesterday and this memory (which i didn't even know I had) came to my mind so spontaneously "like the circles that you find in the windmills of your mind". I even remembed his sad face as if he felt some kind of nostalgy while listening to this song. I can't explain why I commented this story. Sad memory but I'm glad I recalled it...

    a.... m....

    very sensitive and emotional. thanks

Your story moved my feelings while listening to this song 💔

    a.... m....

    I agree

  87. D.... M....

Out of all the versions I've heard of this song Alison Moyet does the most moving rendition. She sings it nice and slow with the emotion of an artist who understands the emotional depth of the song. With the orchestra backing her she uses it as a back drop unveiling a rich tone of a chapter that reflects the movie it came from.

  88. S.... S....

    Most beautiful.

  94. T.... W....

    love that song

  95. B.... ....

the tempo needs to be a little less smooth

  96. B.... ....

I like this version. Alison is the best vocalist we've ever had. However, the song is better with the mark to desperation - it's about grasping at memory. Charles Aznavour did the best interpretation
