Mountain - Don't Look Around Lyrics

Don't look around, 'cause I'm never comin' back.
It's high time you saw the last of me.
You know I was a wanderer, I'd forgotten where to go,
I had no place to lay my head or rest my heavy load.
Don't look around 'cause I'm never comin' back.
It's high time, you saw the last of me.

Lord, how she changed my mind.
Lord she changed my life.

Now I'm workin' all day long, singin' for my food,
Baby, you know that I've got everything I need.
I've given all I can, the rest belongs to me,
Time was it didn't matter just who I had to be.
Don't look around, 'cause I'm never comin' back.
It's high time you saw the last of me.

Lord, how she changed my mind.
Lord, she changed my life.

I got another woman now, don't need you anymore.
Now I think I'll turn my back and walk away from you.
We're livin' in the country doin' everything we please,
I don't want you comin' 'round, stirrin' up a breeze.
Don't look around, 'cause I'm never comin' back.
It's high time you saw the last of me.

Lord, how she changed my mind.
Lord, she changed my life.

I have to respectfully disagree with Myles JS's comment about the "greatest guitarist". Honestly people, if you think about it, we can only rank "great guitarists" by those lucky enough to get recording contacts and hence, be heard by millions of us, especially us "players". Who truly knows for sure?? There may be some "player" stuck in either a garage or basement who could rival "Steve Vai" or whomever. However, I think "Lesli West" is a much better talented guitarist than most think. Why, you ask? Because of the tremendous feeling, phrasing and soul he expresses through his guitar. As far as Leslie's vocals... well, okay he may not be the best. However, his vocals are unique, works with the music he plays and as a former "rock band vocalist and "lead guitarist" myself, I have never heard Leslie on recording or especially live (seen them twice), go off key once. He sings with power and soul. Accept him as he is. After all, he's been there and done that... most of us have not, right? Peace to all.

    M.... S....

Mark Stevens I don't know what criteria those who rate "the best" in any field go by, but my personal criteria when it comes to rock guitarists is how unique and recognizable one's sound is--how easy it is when listening to him play to say, "yeah, that's so and so". Using that criteria, I would have to put Hendrix in the #1 spot, but I rate Leslie West quite highly too--up there in Clapton's and Allman's league. Just my personal opinion, of course.

  29. M.... J....

West wasn't the greatest guitarist, and certainly not the greatest vocalist, but he had a great feel for how rock should be played. And Mountain indeed had some very good songs, like this one.

    M.... J....

Myles JS I think I understand what you're saying. I just disagree with all of it. I think he was the greatest at what he did. Nobody ever had, and nobody ever will, have more power than Leslie West and Mountain.

  30. B.... C....

the thing that disappointed me about Leslie West was that he didn't appreciate how important Steve Knight was to the sound of Mountain

    B.... C....

exaactly. Never sounded the same without him

  31. e.... ....

A song that helped define rock for me while still playing classic piano, eight years before I started playing rock myself.

  32. J.... H....

my fav alblum thru many years from hs to college to grad school and still today with the movie about the voyage of owen coffin who drew the short straw to sacrice his flesh so his shipmates could survive the sinking of the USS ESSEX

  36. c.... t....

    Metal foundations, like Cream.

  37. d.... ....

    awesome!!!!

  38. j.... s....

The addition of the synthesizer versus an electric organ in earlier versions of this song is what gives the high - pitched floating effect. This version is superior and. Leslie West is one of the best. Nuff said.

  39. r.... ....

the drummer kicks ass, as well as the rest of the band!

  40. r.... ....

perhaps the best Mountain song ever, big influence on hard rock and metal

    fuckin`great song,...

  50. J.... M....

My absolute favorite Mountain song. Leslie's vocals & guitar licks are amazing!!!

  51. J.... L....

I don't hear many youngsters today playing with this energy and creativity. Corky Laing's drums are like Procol Harum's B.J. Wilson -- relentlessly great, intense. Leslie West always was a marvelous fantastic lead guitarist and vocalist. I have never been disappointed with Leslie West. Another great Long Island New York musician. Billy Joel even used him on one of his solo albums. I'm sorry but, nothing in rap or that modern day hop-hop R&B can match this high level of musical energy. None of it. It's Valium compared to a double-shot of B-12.

    J.... L....

they will never listen? give it up*

    J.... L....

Absolutely. But you didn't mention Felix.
