My perception is that when he brings her near the sea, his intent is that she should go away. However, she does not. Then, she tries to seduce him, kindly and romantically at first. when he refuses, she gets angry. She then gets violent and he’s taken away to the sea.

The way i see this is he does not want anything to happen between him and this woman, but she does not understand and gets upset. I see this because I am aromantic and this video illustrates this to me perfectly. Anyways, that’s just my opinion and it’s very different than what i see in the comments but that doesn’t mean everyone else is wrong :)

I am in awe of this guy and his melodic phrsing along with the guitarwork and it’s ambiguities.

I think they might have met before we see him get to her. He was looking for her. He probably rescued her before and didn't want her to leave. Her wanted her to stay with him because they were in love. She obviously lived him too, but his loneliness caused him to be selfish. He didn't see that she was hurting and would rather die than stay on land any longer. She couldn't stay there any longer so they fought and he lost. But because she loved him and didn't want him to be lonely anymore she took him (his body) with her.

Like everyone else has mmentioned, I think it is very inspired by Ghanaian folklore where many people believe in mermaids who will drag you under the ocean. However, in this case she is the kind one in a twisted way
