Morrissey - Southpaw Lyrics

You were a boy before
You became a man
I don't see the joy
And you ran with your pals in the sun
You turned around and they were gone
Again...

A sick boy should be treated
So easily defeated
Oh, I just don't understand
So you ran with your pals in the sun
You turned around
You were alone
Again ...
And you ran back to Ma
Which set the pace for the rest of your days
Oh, you ran back to Ma
Which set the pace for the rest of your days
Oh, you ran back to Ma
Which set the pace for the rest of your days

And now, there is something that you should know
There is something that you should know
The girl of your dreams is here all alone
The girl of your dreams is here all alone
The girl of your dreams is
Sad and all alone
The girl of your dreams is
Here all alone
There is something that you should know
There is something that you should know
Girl of your dreams is
Here all alone
The girl of your dreams is
Sad and is all alone
The girl of your dreams is
Sad and is feeling all alone
Oh, there is something that you should know

Help me, help me, help me...

I know people see Southpaw as the ugly duckling, but after the remaster and re-release, this album is amazing to listen to. In a way it's a lot more mature than the things of the past as this album let you draw your own conclusions from a lot of the lyrics that wasn't really seen before to this extent. I dunno, I just love this song for how it lets the music breathe and build and ebb and glow.

    I.... D....

I bought the album when it first came out and at the time I didn't like it. Sold my copy. Now I've decided I quite like it and am having to buy it again. D'oh!

    I.... D....

    11 months ago wow.

  20. b.... d....

Morrissey is my hero, from the pole cats to now , my heart ❤️ is full !!!.

  21. J.... N....

    What genre is this song?

    J.... N....

Progressive rock, alternative rock, psychedelic rock

    J.... N....

Can it really be psychedelic rock though, seeing as Moz never does psychedelics. I guess maybe his band at the time did.

  22. V.... H....

This and Jack the Riper (Studio Version) are my favorite songs!

  23. T.... C....

    Morrissey’s best song

  24. S.... a....

    This songs not long enough

    S.... a....

So damn right, between the psych part and the singing part he could be going on forever

  25. J.... P....

Subestimado álbum, que sin embargo continente algunas de las más preciosas canciones que jamás haya compuesto Mozz

    J.... P....

Jose Pedragosa yo lo considero el mejor album

  26. D.... ....

An underrrated psychedelic masterpiece from the Mozzer...this song is amazing

    D.... ....

"The intent of the song _Southpaw_ shrinks back at least four times, stuck in blame; the concluding _help me, help me_ voice virtually undetectable as the track is sucked away"

My interpretation of the song is that it refers to childhood trauma of abandonment, which echoes on and on in adulthood, as the person abandons the girl of his dreams and is tormented by the guilt thereof.

    D.... ....

Adding to that the sense of rejection of beging left handed

  27. s.... ....

My father died last year age 70, he was a huge Morrissey fan like myself. He had wanted this track played at his funeral. But the funeral place wouldn't allow it because of the length of track 😠So we played This Charming Man instead.

    s.... ....

I´m so sorry for your father ! He had a good taste of music, just like you ! Take care, snowbelle74 ! Moz 4 Ever !

    s.... ....

10 minutes is too long ??? WTF? Did they have a backlog of burials ?

    s.... ....

This made me extraordinarily inconsolable wit tears

    s.... ....

Am so sorry for your father! This track it's my favorite song of Morrissey!! 10 minutes it's not enought!

    s.... ....

    Snow, r u English?

  28. K.... O....

how is possible that this magnificent song has never been played in a live performance. HOW?!

  29. C.... L....

Playlist of Futuro 88.9 Fm Chile 1995.

    C.... L....

Christian Landaeta Torres tocaban a Morrissey en la futuro en ese tiempo?? Cómo pasó esto? Jajaja

  30. A.... W....

Morrissey's greatest track that drips with an impending doom.

  31. H.... 0....

    BORA VÊ

  32. Q.... D....

How does this masterpiece have only 9500 views and Adele's "Hello", almost a billion. Nothing against Adele, but c'mon. Are one billion brain dead people really wired similarly?

    Q.... D....

It's one of those "me-too" bandwagon phenomenon that has nothing to do with real talent. Her voice is ok but the lyrics superficial bullshit, absolutely no soul behind them.

    Q.... D....

The God Effect No more brains and feelings only zombies. 😕

    Q.... D....

The God Effect Adele gets loads of radio play, Moz does not. In my neck of the woods, I'd have to find the fringe groups of music lovers who would even know his name. People know "How Soon Is Now?" around here and that's about it, and many of them don't even know the actual title of the song nor the artist.

In other words: you can thank corporate run television and music stations that decide what you hear based on will give them the largest following and biggest bang for their buck.

It's sad as hell, but thank goodness for the internet!

    Q.... D....

I have everything against Adele but I'm not worried about the statistics of views. I fact, I prefer the good taste of the few.

    Q.... D....

Unfortunately, if a song doesn't come roaring out the gates, it's hard to find momentum and a majority of people look over it.

  34. F.... N....

Y ahora hay algo que deberías saber. La chica de tus sueños esta triste y sola....

    F.... N....

    saddest lyric ever

    F.... N....

... y prefiere estar sola a estar contigo....

    F.... N....

    theo LOL

  35. J.... T....

    And now...

  36. S.... V....

This is my favorite Morrissey song~! These lyrics are incredible. Especially when he sings about "running back to his mother" and when he "runs with his pals in the sun and turns around his friends are all gone". Stephen is no-doubt the best artist during my lifetime!~  MOZ-ART!  Mozart get it?

  37. B.... L....

Raymond Arcangel -- yes, Morrissey has made some bad songs. All rock stars have. Check out his compilation of out-takes called Swords. It's easy to see how those songs don't nearly measure up to masterpieces like Southpaw. But he also has the smarts to know what to release and what to hold back.

    B.... L....

@Bill Lowenburg Hang on a mo, Swords is an excellent album. The sequence of Ganglord, My Dearest Love and The Never Played Symphonies is amazing, surely some of the best B-sides ever. There are some weaker songs of course, but overall a fabulous album... Because of My Poor Education, Teenage Dad on his Estate, Good Looking Man about Town, My Life is a Succession of People Saying Goodbye... all essential.

    B.... L....

Martin Cosby you sir have very strong vocal cords 👍👍👍

  38. J.... F....

Alain Whyte co-writes Morrissey's most haunting and atmospheric song!

    J.... F....

    John Furst
Alain is a major guitar legend! If you haven't read how he got his gig with Morrissey, try to find the thread on Google it's damn inspiring!

  39. B.... D....

    The dog's bollocks

  40. R.... A....

Great song. One of his most haunting. I love the jam of the last four minutes or so, after those haunting lyrics about the girl of your dreams being sad and alone. Has this guy ever made a bad song?

    R.... A....

Raymond Arcangel no sir, never a bad song.

    R.... A....

I'd say that Billy Bud and Roy's Keen are less than album worthy. Everything else is pure Moz magic.
