Morphine - Cure For Pain Lyrics

Where is the ritual?
And tell me where, where is the taste?
Where is the sacrifice?
And tell me where, where is the faith?

Someday there'll be a cure for pain
That's the day I throw my drugs away
When they find a cure for pain

Where is the cave where the wise woman went?
And tell me where, where's all that money that I spent?

I propose a toast
To my self control
You see it crawlin' helpless on the floor

Someday there'll be a cure for pain
That's the day I throw my drugs away
When they find a cure for pain
Find a cure for
Find a cure for pain

Morphine won't cure my pain but music and LOVE does! No pharmaceuticals necessary! And of course... legalize marijuana! A plant that God graced us with. No risk of overdose! Poor buddy! He didn't find that cure, apparently. Overdosed.

  4. A.... A....

We still haven't found a cure for pain yet, Mark.

I think this song is very up-lifting. To me the vocals, proclaiming "Someday there'll be a cure for pain" are said with a very sly smile. The groove, and the raise in volume of his voice are celebratory, it's just that the context and the path to that though process were pretty dark and took a lot of energy, which is why the the surrounding parts of the song sound kind of weary. This song makes me laugh because the proclamation of the cure for pain seems like its totally accepted that it's not here right now, but that doesn't mean that it won't ever exist. I wonder what the cure for pain would be. XD

  7. J.... E....

    The cure is LOVE!!!

Twenty years ago i was attending at the gig in Palestrina (Rome). Horrible heat, lot of stoned people, and we were pretty drunk anyway. Mark said: "And now, a Super Sexy song", then he collapsed. I remember one guy in the crowd shouting with strong Roman accent: " 'A bello de' casa!" (hey, nice guy!), laughing and thinking he was faking. That was an absurd day. It was twenty years ago.

  25. T.... ....

Isan't death a cure for pain? since pain is a mechanism to remind you that you still alive and theres something wrong?

I bought the clamshell enclosed VHS video of Morphine-Cure For Pain on a lark~20 years ago, but never got around to playing it. Then a decade later, I auctioned it off on eBay, along with a lot of other pretty rare VHS videos, being mostly rock music recordings, both live and studio, that I had collected over the years. This is the first time that I have actually listened to the title song...its okay, I suppose.

    D.... L....

    Congratulations. You played yourself.

    D.... L....

@Raimonds Stokmanis And you playlist 'Suck Your Bone"

    D.... L....

Hope you made out. I have soo many old NIN VHS I should put those suckers up.

    D.... L....

@boob tube Most sold for at least what I paid for them, some for much more, and a few were NIN whitebox promos of their '94 and earlier uncensored studio recordings. The music that I still liked, I copied to HDD or blank VHS tape. I also had a 100% perfect seller feedback rating for two eBay accounts, which was not a very easy thing to do.

A Sponge promo VHS with only 3 songs on it. had a bidding war that went to $260.00!! I also sold a LIVE band promo video to a couple living in New Zealand, the furthest away that I shipped anything (took 3 weeks to get there). Ya just never guess right on what people will go for on that site (back then, anyway).

Pain is inevitable, but suffering is the inability to accept that pain is inevitable. Don't let yourself suffer.

    M.... R....

Fuckin' ay, mate. True words. Amen to that

  31. H.... L....

Seen Vapors of Moprhine last year I think. They played that song as an encore or so. One of the best shows ever seen. They're pretty funny guys too, the sax player most definitely.

    H.... L....

    Homo Liber yes indeed.

  32. H.... H....

    Saxaphone is EPIC

    C.... J....

Thanks, now I am not the only one who sees some similarity. Rip Sandman and Pete!

  35. Z.... K....

Mr. Sandman was beyond his years. He would have still been putting out phenomenal music if he was still around. Morphine is a great band to listen to down the county roads and mountains of New Mexico. Peace and Love Everyone.

  36. O.... W....

One of the many songs that changed my life. There's no cure for pain. None. Can't drink it away, can't drug it away. Maybe you can fill the holes with love, but it's no cure. And just as well there may no need to cure something so beautiful, so pure, as pain. For me the transition was that pain was a beautiful poetic result of loving and I can just keep on loving. Love on. Love on. Love on.

... it is the human condition to feel pain. That is a hard concept to accept as one grows older ...

@Shruggz Da Str8-Faced Clown ... fitting Lil sister survived us boys kinda hard wired for painful shenanigans that are sometimes deadly. I should have killed myself w motorcycles in my teens n early 20s then stopped riding cold turkey. Now at 47 I'm itching to ride now that I have a 3 car garage my nurse wife won't have it so perhaps a small sports car hard top ... 😄

Put your self in the shoes of someone who lives with everlasting chronic pain, I mean pain that never goes away. When you open your eyes to the time you put your self in a comatose state with sleeping pills and pain medications, that don't work. 2.5 to 4 hours of sleep a morning. With no dreaming. Pain that effects your wife, kid,s grandchildren and friend. What would you do or resort to to escape it. The Dali Lama says humans don't deserve to be in chronic pain. Deal with it quit being a whiner. Love is not a cure for pain you can embrace it. You don't have choice. Keep your thoughts to your self. True chronic pain can be heard by all and has no cure.

  37. H.... O....

My brother just died on friday and requested to a couple people that he wanted this played at his funeral. My family won't allow it. I understand, but im sad i cant do what he wants.

    K.... N....

Love this too. He's smiling for you and waiting, you'll always have him.

    K.... N....

More people will read this story and listen to this song in honor of your brother than the people on his funeral. Sorry for your lost. Your brother was unique.

    K.... N....

yes there is a cure for the pain. is called heroin., sorry but is true.

    b.... p....

Opiates are a bandaid not a cure

    b.... p....

Lol drugs are a path to destruction. Pain relievers are a cure for nothing. They are the way to betray your life, kiss it goodbye, take it for granted, and betray everyone who's ever loved you.

    b.... p....

A temporary quick fix is most definitely NOT a cure, which is basically the point of this song. If there were actually a real cure he would throw his drugs away and quit that futile way of pain telief.

    b.... p....

You whooshed on this song so hard my dude

    b.... p....

... edibles the way to go not as destructive
