Morissette, Alanis - Mary Jane Lyrics
What's the matter Mary Jane, you had a hard day
As you place the don't disturb sign on the door
You lost your place in line again, what a pity
You never seem to want to dance anymore
On this roller coaster
The last chance streetcar
Went off the track
And you're on it
I hear you're counting sheep again Mary Jane
What's the point of trying to dream anymore
I hear you're losing weight again Mary Jane
Do you ever wonder who you're losing it for
In the wrong direction
There's a few more bruises
If that's the way
You insist on heading
Please be honest Mary Jane
Are you happy
Please don't censor your tears
You're the sweet crusader
And you're on your way
You're the last great innocent
And that's why I love you
So take this moment Mary Jane and be selfish
Worry not about the cars that go by
All that matters Mary Jane is your freedom
Keep warm my dear, keep dry
Tell me
Tell me
What's the matter Mary Jane...

Please be honest Mary Jane, are you happy? Please don’t censor your tears....
There is so much truth in this for many women....
Bellissima
I was 14 when this album came out. Major influence on me for a long time. This was my favourite. This brings back such memories of high school.
Why have I never heard this before? This is incredible. Her talent transcends time, genres, and cultures.
Boring anecdote for those of you who weren't there.... This album is the soundtrack to my australian working holiday in 1995. Myself, matt and steve met erin and camilla in byron. We had the best adventures and i'll always associate this song with those great times. Not relevant to anyone reading this, i know. A huge emotional part of my life.
Sad but true
I once had a beautiful friend that I loved so much. She was always running from man to man just to be with one. I sent her this song, made her cry, she told me how much she loved me. I hoped she would have understood the meaning behind it. Sadly, she hooked up with yet another abusive asshole that ended up murdering her. To all my beautiful sisters out there, don't stay with them just to have a man. Learn to love yourself first.
I am more sorry than I can say. I am glad your friend had your love.
Is this remastered version much different from original ? Better /worse ?
The best of the 90's
I discoverd this song recently, re-evaluating all my old music... It's always been there, on Jagged Little Pill, but I guess I just didn't understand it until more recently. Now it's my favourite Alanis song.
My mom would play this in the car all the time in the early 2000's. Reminds me of a simpler world.
Bc of that Matters Maryjane is your freedom so keep warm keep dry
I grew up in this era 80s and 90s and so glad that I got to experience this amazing artist,s music becasue nobody can compare too her she is the best and the only Alanis Morissette!😀
Why hip hop boy then?
@RealityCheck6T9 Becasue in the 90s I loved hiphop as well as Alanis and tons of 90s music
But the rhythm and sound was different in thoses days compared to 2019.
@hiphopboy36 So different. I can't get into what's coming out today. Listening to Alanis makes me feel so comforted.
@aragornthebrave Either can I.
@RealityCheck6T9 and also I taught hiphop dance for 8 years so that's the other reason.
