Moody Blues, The - Story In Your Eyes Lyrics

I've been thinking about our fortune,
And I've decided that we're really not to blame.
For the love that's deep inside us now, is still the same.
And the sound we make together,
Is the music to the story in your eyes.
It's been shining down upon you now, I realize.

Listen to the tide slowly turning,
Wash all our heartaches away.
We are part of the fire that is burning,
And from the ashes we can build another day.
But I'm frightened for your children,
And the life that we are living is in vein.
And the sunshine we've been waiting for,
Will turn to rain.

When the final line is over,
And it's certain that the curtain's gonna fall,
I can hide inside your sweet sweet love,
Forever more.

Listen to the tide slowly turning,
Wash all our heartaches away.
We are part of the fire that is burning,
And from the ashes we can build another day.
But I'm frightened for your children,
And the life that we are living is in vein.
And the sunshine we've been waiting for,
Will turn to rain.

Moody Blues , Yes , Genesis , and King Crimson. The "Mount Rushmore" of Prog-rock. At least for me.

    G.... D....

@Geoffrey Darcy ELP and Pink Floyd too! Need a bigger 'Mt. Rushmore,' lol.

  8. D.... T....

it is a pity todays musicians have not carried the class and challenge that the moodys presented us with when were teens, their music is poetic, musical, enticing, questioning and sometimes provides answers

  9. K.... J....

Yes Justin . Did write this great song.

  10. B.... S....

    They were great!

    B.... S....

Nah.............they were just singers in a rock and roll band.

  11. M.... D....

    Underrated

    hard life (MULDEW)

    M.... D....

I wouldn't go that far . As long as we live...

  12. J.... W....

This one was my first super big hit song. I wrote it while living in Napa California at the biggest winery, which I had rebuilt to a higher operating level, including converting a closet into a radio broadcast station. I did not receive much royalties from this song until about 30 years later.

    J.... W....

@Jeffrey Whittaker This song was written by Justin Hayward of the Moody Blues. What alternate reality are you living in?

    J.... W....

    @60s70sVintageRock LOL . I wish I'd written it.

    J.... W....

    The "Royal Scam."

  13. M.... D....

How can 272 people give this a thumbs down?

    M.... D....

Because they don't know awesome music when they hear it

  21. R.... H....

The Leslie organ just blows me away!!  Moodies 4-ever!!

  22. F.... T....

Nice version of this song, I saw the Moody Blues @ Madison Square Garden in 1981 when Long Distance Voyager was released. I bought 12 tickets @ the gate they would allow you to buy six tickets per person a lady standing behind me was buying wrestling tickets and I gave her money to get me six more tickets, I could have scalped them but I brought all eleven of my friends including myself to see this great band and it doesn't get better than that, and great they were that night and great they are. Times Music Memories & The Moody Blues ! Peace.

    F.... T....

@Frank Theo How nice of you to do that! I saw them that same year at the (later torn down) Poplar Creek Music Theater outside Chicago. Got to meet them after the show... a friend and I were randomly invited by their promoters to a "meet and greet" after-party at their hotel near O'Hare airport. Catered food and drinks with a couple dozen other lucky fans. What an awesome night that was!!

    F.... T....

It was pretty amazing I'll never forget standing on that line and scoring a dozen tickets and that nice Spanish lady who was 7 months pregnant waiting on line for wrestling tickets got me those six extra tickets and she had no idea who the Moody Blues were it was so funny ! , and going home that evening and the next day I handed a bunch of my buddies and their girlfriends a good time and I practically gave those tickets to everyone for free. We all loved the Moody Blues and it was a special time for me and them. There are some things you just don't take for granted memories and the good times you had with friends you grew up with. I saw this version of The Story In Your Eyes and I saw them play this song and so many others that night, when I was listing to this song it just brought me back for a moment. Peace.

  23. G.... M....

The opening rift tells you your going hear something awesome. I don’t think there has ever been a band more in sync with each other, their music and lyrics

    G.... M....

    I agreee

  24. D.... S....

I have had this song playing in my head for 2 days, perhaps my past Reaching out to me saying "Lucky you
    Growing up in America"
    Amazing Memories Absolutely!🌎🌍🌏🚴🎶

  25. D.... M....

This song was recorded 2 months after I was born. I can't help but to feel a cruel joke of sorts has been played upon me...us! What has happened to the music of the world I was initially born into? I saw MB in concert at an outdoor venue the summer of 1999 & they were spectacular. I will cherish the memory forever and keep it as my witness that real music, the kind that speaks to our very souls, really does exist, if only in our memories (and 'wildest dreams') now.
Peace and love to all, as we move forward into an uncertain future.

  26. R.... H....

    So very Unique!!!

  27. T.... K....

i love this song ,, forever!!! and Mike Pinder !! :)

  28. N.... F....

    They rock out!

  29. k.... ....

    Musically incredible.
Hayward's vocal here is not as strong and focused as the released version.

  30. T.... K....

Mike Pinder was the best Mellotron organ player!!

    T.... K....

i love Ray...but Elton can sure flog a Mellotron too. "Daniel" anyone?

  31. C.... B....

I remember when this song came out. It was thrilling, and special....so special!

  32. G.... B....

I love the photo at 1:34. It is very candied and doesn't look staged. Not that I am saying that their stuff looks staged more that, this particular photo is very...ummm...looks like it is taken by a fan and not a professional. :-\

  33. H.... H....

    M0:00Y B1U3S!

  34. S.... R....

Boys and girls behold musical talent strive to be like them

    Amazing band...just amazing

  40. H.... S....

    Great band!!!

  41. C.... A....

The song I had turned way up. On our stereo after school. Waiting for the piano at the end. Not knowing my mother was standing just outside the living room door. Watching me jam on our piano!! Of course as a kid you never know your parents admiration. But on that day i got to see hers!

    C.... A....

    that is beautiful, Chris Anderson.
    A wonderful memory for you.

  42. 5.... ....

    VERY GOOD!”

  43. M.... ....

Sadly, most people have not heard this analog recording.

  44. S.... M....

More 'Moody Bluesy' than the one played on the radio. I wasn't really thrilled with that version. This is GREAT!!!

  45. R.... O....

Very awesome song and video! I love them! Thanks for sharing it ❤️

  46. t.... ....

I enjoyed this version. Slightly different than the one that received heavy AM radio airplay in 1971, but I liked it a lot.

    t.... ....

Wow, I would like to hear that version!!

    t.... ....

    Like the other version better.

  47. J.... D....

Wow this version sounds like it could be on A Question of Balance.

    J.... D....

I take it you're familiar with the other version as well!

    J.... D....

@Danielle Marin yeah and really like the way this one is produced.

  48. U.... K....

This is the best band ever.

  49. A.... M....

Unbelievable. That over 250 "losers" gave this "Original Recorded Version" a thumbs down! Crazy. AMJ

  50. C.... ....

Nothing in the music market today can beat this.

    C.... ....

That is soooo true, no one can touch them!

  51. d.... ....

Western society ruled until stupid politicians decided to give it away...

    d.... ....

Really? That's what you get from this song? The urge to dominate? Why do we need to rule anybody?

    d.... ....

    @Gabaldon c&r right

    d.... ....

    @Gabaldon c&r
We'll put. Anyone who would derive that kind of conclusion about Moody a Blues jam truly misses the point!

    d.... ....

@Matt Russillo I would be extremely depressed if the kind of rw scumbags you have today started to be into the Moodies but I think their spiritually uplifting music would normally repel them.

    d.... ....

@Gabaldon c&r >>> I realize that you are not savvy about the real world we live in, but your naivety is stunning. Listen to the lyrics again. The Moodies were talking about a world in which the elites are running things, and that hopefully humanity can rebuild "from the ashes". Look around at what's been happening in this world. It ain't no accident. The Moody Blues were ahead of their times. Justine Hayward said this was a "disturbing" song. But he said they called 'em as they saw it.

  52. j.... l....

The song that first turned me on to The Moody Blues and 50 years later, I am still turned on. Always a class act to this rocker ~~ Peace and Tranquility

  53. m.... m....

Every Good Boy Deserves a Favor, an album of epistemology, Procession, a rap of ‘summum bonum’ [L] the supreme good from which all others are derived through ‘The Story In Your Eyes’. Now you know the rest of the story. Good Day.

  54. S.... E....

    Legenfs

  55. D.... H....

The first time I heard it I was 15 and I was high on acid. I wanted to hug this song in my arms

    D.... H....

    been there....i understand completely...mindblowing stuff

  56. K.... ....

Music was great before hip-hop, rap and Autotune.

    K.... ....

    You said it!

  57. j.... ....

Nice one. Never heard this before ... its goin to Morocco next month.

  58. M.... C....

Never forget Letterman having them on with their "Part II" tour. Looks over and says, "You're a pretty boy, aren't you?" 😂 Hell, yeah, they were.

  59. q.... ....

Saw these titans twice live, once right before Seventh Sojourn, and again right after Strange Times release. No drop off; as good live as in studio!!!

  60. a.... t....

One of my faves of the Moodies. That haunting, somewhat overpowering mellotron always gives me goosebumps.I always felt there could have been another verse after the guitar solo so I did an edit repeating the first verse and I think it works. Anyway great song.

  61. B.... ....

For a band not know for their riffs, this is a great riff.

  62. d.... s....

why oh why don,t we have great bands like them today sure still love to hear play all day

    d.... s....

I saw first justin hayward touring and then a few months later the moodies touring a coupla years ago. Still amazing.

  63. S.... ....

I command you to NOT listen to this terrible music! Those guys are just in moody blue black knights in white satin ... Justin kidding ...

    S.... ....

HA, Ha, ha ............................................................. got ya!

  64. B.... S....

Great canyon cutting music, motorcycle experience feels better. Feels!

  65. B.... B....

Awesome video and great pics! With so many great songs in their catalogue, it's hard to choose a fave MB tune. But this one ranks high with me! Ray's intro, John's driving bass/backing vocals, and Justin's voice and lyrics equal sheer perfection! 💘 the Moodies so much!! Love to you all! Deb xoxo (moodygirl) 6/28/19

    B.... B....

Busy Bee I sure loved this group. One of my all time favorite albums in youth, was ‘Question
Of Balance.’ Their arrangements of music,
    And vocals superb. Beautiful voices.

    B.... B....

Good review but ya forgot that imo this is some of Justin's finest guitar work at least for me anyhow. He is ripping some notes there clean as a whistle.

  66. S.... ....

John Lodge's bass line! You know instantly what tune this is, and it propels the song forward.

  67. K.... S....

THIS ..... is ............ THE MOODY BLUES ...............# ..............pure EXCELLENCE $$$$$$$$$$

  70. M.... ....

  73. C.... S....

    I'm so hungry

  74. D.... L....

This is one of most Favorite songs ever. I play this at my club CRUSH BAR HOLLYWOOD

It's one of my favorites also was delighted when I just showed up a minute ago as I was scrolling for a great song The Moody Blues deliver!lol☺

  75. s.... ....

Back ,way back before rap started stinking up the music industry, when the music was wrought with talent instead of today's self perceived victim hood and that repetitive ugly talk ,openly racist shit they call "woke rap"

    s.... ....

The key word in your post is talent. Some have it (years ago) and some don't (today's rap). It also speaks to the consumers then and now. The Moody Blues can still sell today, the rappers of today wouldn't have been in business for a week back in the 60's.

    s.... ....

@iluv music as time passed we find out the biography of many bands of 1960's- early 1980's to numerous to name here that were riding a wave of popularity but had no money. Accounts were set up for mod clothing, unlimited drugs and women. Managers and distributors robbed them blind. I suspect it's the same shit different Wrapper for the Rappers .No pun intended

    s.... ....

@syby1112 there is a big difference in, it's called talent. With practice, you could rap, but that's the point, if anyone can do it, then it's not a talent. To create real music takes years and God given talent. Not everyone has this gift. The moody blues definitely do.

    s.... ....

Always crabby geezer taking it down. Just dig the tunes. Relax.

  76. P.... S....

Justin never got enough credit for his guitar playing.

    P.... S....

As well as those great licks, he was also laying down the vocals with that magnificent and also underrated voice of his, a true injustice for sure!!!!

  77. D.... ....

Me looking for the Jojo comments like 👀

    D.... ....

Yeah no, we’re in boomer territory.

    D.... ....

Deiko I don't get the reference either but it brought you here, right? Enjoy. 🙂

  78. k.... ....

One's first impression would be that the Moody Blues were really only a studio band. I saw them in 1972 (it might have been 73) at the Orlando Sports Stadium. They were an excellent live band. Great show. I used to have all their albums on vinyl.

    k.... ....

I saw them in '85 in an outdoor amphitheater, and again in the 90's in a indoor venue, and they were incredible both times. If I hadn't known better, I would have sworn it was straight off the album.
They were two of the best concerts I've ever seen. 😊 I love them!

    k.... ....

I saw them live in like, 2011-ish and they were amazing. I think I was like, 30 years younger than anyone else I saw at the concert but eh

    k.... ....

kybourbonboy : Saw the Blues twice in concert in Texas . Great experience!

  79. C.... A....

    Brasil ouvindo Moody Blues !!

  80. J.... K....

from the vision of playing with the London Symphony Orchestra, to the tech development of the keyboards they utilized, The Moody Blues were pioneers, and the melodies and harmonies seemed to calm the amygdala which were transporting us into panic. Their music is a fundamental core to my soul.

    J.... K....

There was no “London Symphony Orchestra” and they never played with one to make their album. They came in and lay’d down their tracks, later on Peter Knight added the orchestration with hired orchestra musicians and mixed the album.

    J.... K....

    @tami stonehttps://youtu.be/q8474UHL-dk

    J.... K....

I stand by my statement, they have never recorded with the ‘London Symphony Orchestra.’ They have played live with many, just not the ‘London Symphony Orchestra.’

    J.... K....

@tami stone : I stand corrected then, and replace London Symphony Orchestra with "whoever the hell symphony they're playing with..."

    J.... K....

Greatest Band Ever! The Writing is Unapproachable, The Singing, The Harmony Etc.!

  81. C.... K....

I saw them during The Other Side of Life tour in 1987. It was 20 years after Days of Future Past was released. They played this song and it was great to hear it live. It STILL sounds fresh after ALL these years!

    C.... K....

To this day, still believe that "Days of Future Past" is the best work Moody Blues ever released. It had to be awesome to hear them live.

  82. M.... ....

Still holds it own after 50 years! Quite astonishing when you think about that. In 1970 the idea of listening to a recording from 1920 would have been unthinkable and yet, despite its distinctly 60's/70's sound, this track could even be appreciated by today's youth contaminated as they are by the garbage foisted on them by the current era.

    M.... ....

Well said, Mr Goblin60. This is the music that stands the test of time. The only thing that dates it at all is the recording technology

    M.... ....

@Matthew Ronson technology dosen't make the music better, it's talent.

    M.... ....

@Randy Acuna Listen to the quality of an old 78 RPM LP and tell me it does not sound dated and low fidelity.

This dates the music, and yes, better tech means BETTER reproduction of the sound.

I never said it made musicians better-did I? Garbage in-garbage out and all. A great recording if crp is still crap.

Hearing the nuances of master musicians vs muted sounds of primitive tech certainly makes for a far superior experience.

However, the Beatles thought that the technology and innovations like multi-track recording tapes made their recordings better and truer to what they had imagined.

    M.... ....

@Matthew Ronson sorry if you misunderstood me , if today the technology is better, why not throw music be better. I still feel the music of the 1960 with less technology is miles better than today's music, just my take.

    M.... ....

It should be no surprise that this song and the Album, "Every Good Boy Deserves Favour" came out during the Golden Age of Rock and Roll, and still holds up, to this day.

  83. L.... C....

The story in your eyes is simply beautiful. No other words. Thank you moody blues. Lorraine connelly

  84. B.... D....

This band is magical ! You can place yourself in every song they do. Close your eyes and you are there.

    B.... D....

Bill D--You got it--ive seen them many times indoors and out-- Always introspective and inspiring----

    B.... D....

@Thomas Foss I just wish the Moodies got more recognition. I happen to be in a certain place and time where their music had a tremendous effect on me. It was like never being able to pass that way again. A place in time just made for me. I could write volumes. I my life I loved them all !

    B.... D....

@Bill D ever wonder why the moody blues never had their photos on their album covers because the did not want more publicity. No big press was needed, they did want to go the way of the Beatles, they wanted a life.

  85. K.... R....

My favorite song from the seventies

  86. D.... B....

As wonderful as every song recorded sounds they are even more awesome in person. Have been blessed to be able to see them 3 times!!!!

    D.... B....

seen them 2 dozen times since late 60's :) still imho one of best bands ever

    D.... B....

Yep, one of the best live bands ever, ever, ever.

    D.... B....

Same here--Have seen them with many orquestras too!! i have some concert photos from some 70s shows Did anyone see them up in the Milwaukee "hurricane" a couple years ago???

    D.... B....

Saw them acouple years ago, love their music

  87. T.... W....

These legendary Musical Artists really paved the way for groups like Pink Floyd & Yes!!!.....True Giants of a whole genre!!!

  88. T.... W....

One of my favorie bands and this song! WOW! Great stuff!

  89. L.... G....

Best Rock'n Roll song ever written and performed! Best band.... Love them always!

  90. F.... H....

I remember standing in a record store in 1965 in Charlotte, NC searching through the 45 bins and hearing ' Go Now' over the sound system. Did retrieve 'Go Now' BTW.

  91. A.... H....

How I loved them. Their sound was uniquely incredible. I still do love their unique sound. Reminds me a bit of elo.,

  92. O.... ....

I took my then girlfriend to Jones Beach Theater back in the day. Had the Moody Blues on Cassette and sang the tunes while waiting to get in. She never heard of the Moody Blues. After the concert, she could not believe how concise and in tune I was to the actual band. Now, 22 years later....she still loves my voice.

  93. B.... T....

My parents use to listen to them

    B.... T....

Your parents are very cool! ☺

  94. M.... J....

Began listening to them when I was 13 in 1973..love them.... then I found The Pink Floyd...😎

    M.... J....

It was 1973 (I was 16 at the time) went to Laredo to buy some music and stuff and bought just two albums: this "Every Good Boy Deserves a Favour" and Pink Floyd's "Relics" and in some sense, both sound very alike, later either group evolves quite different, and now we can enjoy both.

  95. W.... R....

    love this band...

  96. S.... K....

Not in the news. No Marketing. Yet one of the most greatest achievements in human kind.

  97. d.... b....

Had the great pleasure of seeing the Moody's live in Atlanta in 71 at the old Atlanta Auditorium. Great show! Those were the days.
