I get really tired of seeing comments they relate to hating on a band and what they produce... clearly they liked it in the recording room.. made decisions that they as a band agreed were the way to go and the albums are that product...

This whole album flows as a whole. This song is right b4 2 of the best tracks they've ever put out!!

The lyrics would probably be fine if the vocals were more aggressive... It just sounds like some generic 2000's pop song that justin timberlake wrote. I mean you're pissed of but singing like an angel. Only in certain songs or parts it could sound fine but these instrumentals are heavy and aggressive. Put some emotion into the vocals atleast a bit of grit. It just doesnt really fit this song mostly the chorus. Even just screaming the "leave me the fuck alone" would improve it so much lol or just having a scream behind the cleans in the back. Such a small change for a big impact. The rest was okay again i think he has a good voice but he uses it in a way it just lacks any hard hitting impact and sounds out of place a lot with the instruments

First time I heard this song, I honestly thought Chris was just messing around in the studio with those lyrics. Then the song starts, and it's like, "No, OK, that's the real chorus. Wow. That's really... that's all you could think of?"

The vocals are SICK. Everyone who says otherwise is wrong. My opinion: fact.

I don't get how people say he sounds like MJ....not even close.

People hating on the lyrics can't seem to think deeper about what they could possibly be about in context to the band's other work. Gnosis, Phronesis, Samsara, Cycles of death and rebirth, the battle between fate and free will... Stygian Blue is an impossible color... something that is outside the range of our visual perception. An invisible entity that won't ever leave you alone? Is this the entirety of the cosmos that won't ever seem to leave you alone? Is it manifestations of the cosmos? Is it referring to human made technology and the phenomena of Targeted Individuals? Look at the book Chameleo. It is sad to see so many fans hating the lyrics because of their shallow projections of what they mean. Apparently anything relating to a relationship has to be a romantic relationship with another person and not a relationship with your Self or the universe. The vocal melodies are what makes this track truly great.

Context is the issue. While anything artistic can be interpreted how you wish, if there's no basis for said interpretation, it means nothing. "I f*ck around with you constantly" and "but you lied to me, get back what you stole" to me seems more like it's referencing a person rather than a thing. If the lyrics focused more on the spiritual aspect and not the "you" of it, as a singular entity, I would be inclined to your point, but the phrasing of the lyrics as it stands is just plain bad. The Amanuensis had better lyrics that better represent how the phrasing of this song should've been.

That break at 1:23 always gets me. Got that dirty riffing going on with some smooth ass vocals & melodies. Not to mention those Gojira scrapes that follow, lovely stuff.

After hearing it as an instrumental for so long, I came here thinking I would REALLY hate it with vocals. I was wrong. It fit perfectly, to me. Really made it a "song", if you know what I mean.

I love Chris' vocals, just brings a smile to my face. Dude has the chops to be a pop singer but he's in a metal band. Don't hate.

I think you answered your own question. Its the words, not the vocals. Personally, I don't listen to metal for the deep thoughts of the artists...melodies and riffs are phenomenal on this one which is good enough for me.

I think the lyrics, melodies, & vocals overall are lacking in comparison to The Amanuensis. Not much has stood out to me yet as far as catchiness either, at least so far. Maybe with more listens the album will grow on me. But the lyrics will still remain a let down. The album mostly has been a little disappointing, at least thus far. Especially considering how long it took for this album to come out. I expected more.

I feel like this album was meant to be more radio friendly which is understandable, John was nearly homeless after the last album (or around then) and for radio songs they're amazing. It's a weaker album but it's still M.

Still though losing Mike was a massive blow, he looked at stuff differently

I just can't get into, maybe eventually. I'll need to sit down and listen to it as a whole from start to finish again soon. From all the songs I've heard I'm just really not liking the mixing/guitar tones. To me it sounds like Flux Conduct 2.0 rather than Monuments.
