Monkees, The - Take A Giant Step Lyrics
Though you've played at love and lost
And sorrow's turned your heart to frost
I will melt your heart again.
Remember the feeling as a child
When you woke up and morning smiled
There's just no percentage in remembering the past
It's time you learned to live again at last.
Come with me, leave yesterday behind
And take a giant step outside your mind.
You stare at me in disbelief
You say for you there's no relieve
But I swear I'll prove you wrong.
Don't stay in your lonely room
That's not where you belong
Come with me I'll take you where the tast of life is green
And everyday holds wonders to be seen.
Come with me, leave yesterday behind
And take a giant step outside your mind.

This IS America's FABULOUS FOUR! Much better than the British four. And yes I Davy Jones born British, but he is 1/3 of the four.
❤️😱🤪😆💋💋Love u micky dolenz
Great!!! Thank you!!!
Love him when he played the gangsta baby face ❤️❤️❤️
He rocked! Love the way he smiled n jammed!! RIP Peter ❤️
Yooooooooooo this is bringing me backkkkk

Growing up in 1976, my uncle dated an Italian woman, a nuclear physicist like himself. She used to Love Mickey Dolenz. I never understood why. It wasn't until I was an adult that I could see thru her eyes. Mickey Dolenz certainly does not lack personality in any way, shape, or form! Some people are gifted and just seem to have it all.
Yes, Micky (no "e") is a "One of"!).
R.I.P Davy and Peter
i'm on a Monkees nostalgia trip at the moment 😂 i just turned 21 this year, but when i was around 13,14, i was SO obsessed with them. hearing all the songs again just reminds me of being in high school and listening to the songs in the school yard on a sunny day ❤️ the news of Peter's passing really broke me....
Then I invite you to subscribe to this channel (and tag the bell)! Browse through my 100 plus videos of "all Monkees"!
When something is truly very good, it never dies. In fact, people try to replicar it.
I always think of sunny days listening to them outside, too. Except, I was 4. :)
I love these 4 men best their is
Always makes me smile when I hear this song, because I was 5 when it first came out and when my sister played it on her old-style record player, I thought the heavy drum beat sounded like a giant dancing around, hence the title. I told her that and she laughed her head off.
Great drums! Great song!
I'm glad to see this video has so many views . I had no idea Peter had passed until just now . I love the Monkees since childhood . I have all their albums and place them right up in all rock's history of greatest bands !!!
Back when music was about emotion and the talent to communicate it
Rip peter
Sigh ...
Rising Sons (Taj Mahal & Ry Cooder) do a great version!
Thanks for that info! I will look it up!
I’m probably the youngest Fan of The Monkees, but I don’t care. The music they make today is garbage..
This is probably my favorite song of theirs RIP Peter and Davy
@The Monkees Archives I'm sorry could this be a Member of The Monkees? *Crosses Fingers*
No, sorry. Just a friend.
Well im 13 i discovered the monkees a couple if months ago
I’m 15 but I’ve loved the Monkees since I could remember. They’re great
Correct! I don't like today's music either. Nice to know that young people still have good taste. Be good to yourself, and God bless you.
long live The Monkees
B-kant van Last Train To Clarksville
Fantastic song!
Check out Mike's twitch at 2:15.
I gotta be honest, I never noticed that before! Typical Nesmith humor! LOL
Eventually they will all be gone and all we will have left is those good vibrations
Wrong band.
@The Monkees Archives no not at all music is sound , sound you hear is the high frequency variation in air pressure vibration of air resonates your ear drum . If you like the music then the band produces good vibrations .
Love this song❤️ Mickey you have such a fantastic voice❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
They're not even bothering to try to look like they're actually playing their instruments.
Preacher At Arrakeen They weren’t allowed to at that point but that changed thankfully. They are actually excellent musicians especially Mike and Peter (RIP).
Watch The Monkees Concert , live especially the last song Not Your Steppin Stone , tight and live , on the money . Also Davey was an excellent drummer.
This is a good song, but the intro is the same as Last Train
Not even close! It's got a middle eastern flavor and in my opinion, is far better.
@The Monkees Archives Not even close what? Your saying they're not the same notes done in the same measure? Better - worse, or done in a different style... doesn't matter.
@BleedBNG Clarksville is in "G". Giant Step does 2 notes, E-A in the same time sig but doesn't sound anything like the guitar riff played by Louie Shelton on the intro to Clarksville. The only similarity is 2 notes are played.
@The Monkees Archives OK, whatever you say. If the intro doesn't remind you, if just even a little bit of Clarksville... then my bad. It is a good song though no matter what. Thanks for uploading it!
Peter Tork R.I.P.
this song kept me from commiting suicide, and kept my eyes on jesus
Godspeed Mr. Peter Tork,
You've taken that final
Giant Step. ✌️😢
and Davy
Sweet man who loved his fans. I got to meet him a couple times.
So sad to hear Peter has passed. RIP
When,so sad
A great song, Thanks to All for it. Love & Peace to All
I always thought the line was "Take a TRY and step outside your mind" makes sense lol
I always thought it was “take a child” which makes no sense at all
Great video thanks
love the carole king version also...great lyrics
I was 5 when I first heard this song and my sister told me that the thumpety-thumping drums were of a giant "taking steps", hence the name. The mental image of that has always made me laugh when I hear it.
Thanks for sharing this mental image! It makes the song even richer to me to picture a nimble dancing giant dancing to this song! :D
I know on the show that Davy was supposed to be the heart throb but for me it always has and always will be MIcky Dolenz! I am a second generation that watched the show on Saturdays and as a little girl he was so funny and older he was so handsome. Now I am 50 and still think Micky is the cutest!!!!!
What a love!! I love his voice!!
Yes
Micky Dozens
I am beginning to see this also. (but, it is Michael Nesmith's quietness in strength That draws me to him.)
Agree me also love micky ❤️😍
The greatest tune by the Monkees!
Thank you--I looked him up. Very impressive. Do you know what the stringed instrument is--that I hear being plucked?
Sounds like a sitar. Has the effect George Harrison used back then.
Interesting that it was written primarily by Carol King.
BILLI think you might be right, and this version of giant step is pretty lame IMO--try the original by carol king or taj mahals... THE OPENING WITH THE RICKENBOCKER 12 STRING IS ESPECIALLY DERIVITIVE AND LAME
Lady Laraine Bob Cooper was a great jazz musician
Love the use of the booming tom toms and how they used a Tarzan type to beat his chest to the beat. Awesome video.
