Monkees, The - I Don't Think You Know Me Lyrics

If you think I want the life you choose to live
I don't think I want the love you've got to give
If you think my goals could be so trivial and small
Then, I don't think you know me at all

Born between the covers of your fashion books
You think you can make it, girl, on just your looks
But you could never bring me up
Between us stands a wall
No, I don't think you know me at all

Believing in the promise painted in your smile
I've chased what I was running from, girl, all my life
I've known you a hundred times in memories I recall, but
I don't think you know me at all
I don't think you know me at all.

Soo under rated..and real music, not bs rap. such great hits that artists like Hellen Reddy and Niel Diamond wrote and many many were hits. But there are songs that were not on the radio that are hidden gems, and beat most pop and hip hop bs on the radio today, and even disco beats rap, which is not music at all. Peter Tork, the clown, actually sang some on albums songs and when the monkees tour peter sings mkes stuff and sounds like the Monkees, and can sing any Monkee song. Mickey tours too, alone or with Pete. Mickey has that unique voice and him and Mike were my favorite of course. Mike is n the wind. RIP Davey.

4 of the best singers ever. Forget todays silly boy bands and lame songs, forget whether they can play musical instraments for tv. These 4 guys are great singers. How can you compare any boy band or many pop singers to Mke Nesmith or Mickey Dolenz? And for a young English voice you have Davey Jones. Then there is the underated Peter Tork, Who is a greal vocalist n his own right and was lead on some Monkee songs. He carries on the Monkees and easily can sing any Monkee song with tht magic sound that only these guys had. I loved them better than the Beatles.

Its funny that the songs Mike sings but didn't write sound like he could have written them.

@dakert40 Not so in this case. This is very similar to ' You Just May Be The One'. I don't know which came first, but I have a suspicion this did and Nesmith wrote a song based on it. The bridges in both songs are very alike.

It's amazing this song (and this version in particular) was never released at the time.

Cool to hear this, thanks! Sounds to be influenced by "If I Needed Someone" and that one section sounds similar to one of Mike's best, "You Just May Be The One". Great.

Definitely hear the Beatles influence in this song. Glad someone else noticed that too.
