Modest Mouse - Life Like Weeds Lyrics
And in this life like weeds, you're just a rock to me
I could have told you all that I love you
And in the places you go, you'll see the place where you're from
I could have told you all that I love you
And in the faces you meet, you'll see the place where you'll die
And on the day that you die, you'll see the people you'd met
I could have told you all that I love you
And in the faces you see, you'll see just who you've been
I wish I could have told you all:
In this life like weeds, eyes need us to see
Hearts need us to bleed, in this life like weeds
You're a rock to me
I know where you're from, but where do you belong?
In this life like weeds, you're the dirt I'll breath
In this life like weeds, you're a rock to me
Until there's nothin' left to breathe
And you think you feel most everything
And we know that our hearts are just made out of strings
To be pulled, strings to be pulled
So you think you've figured out everything
But we know that our minds are just made out of strings
To be pulled, strings to be pulled
All this talkin' all the time and the air fills up, up, up
Until there's nothing left to breathe
Up until there's nothin' left to speak.
Up until the better parts of space

RIP LIL PEEP
Anyone that says modest mouse isn't the best band ever is lying to themselves
Give me a break
I miss this badly. Happy 20 year bday, Moon & Antartica
Anyone still love modest mouse in 2020??
This song and people as places are have a similar vibe to me
this song is everything, about everything.... but on face value saying nothing
this makes my happy neurons fire.
Just waiting on my soulmate who loves modest mouse as much as I do!
hope you find them. hard to beat the melodic destruction they deliver. totally unique. my favorite MM song here.

2 RACKS ON MY NEW SHOES
Got half way through and had to restart the song because I never want it to end...
Ross Jones same
Been in prison since jan3 2016 all my homies thought I listen to rap n shit but trip out every time I had modest mouse blasting in my cell
2 RACKS ON NEW SHOES WHY TF I DO THAT
Isaac Brock is our generation bon dylan. One of the best lyricist of all time.
gimme a break from all this bullshit
Interlude-lil peep
Two racks on my new shoes
Why the fuck I do that?
Tell me why the fuck do I do that
Please STFU about lil Peep, everyone.
The moon and Antarctic are lonely desolate places and the “lonesome crowded West” also underscore loneliness...these are the undoubtedly the best two albums. Thus, we can infer Issac is far more artistic when depressed and lonely.
Guitars and Bass are blissful on this song.
real recognize real. rip lil peep. both versions are incredible.
Rip Peep
Crybaby 🎈 RIP
Amazing song definitly heard it at the right time in my life one of there best albums modest mouse and songs ohia truely kept me alive will never forget that one day i can tell it isaac Brock and one day i will visit jason molina's grave
Best song ever wrote ”and u think u figured out everything but our minds are just made out of strings to be pulled ”
Compaction
Sand becoming concrete beneath your tent.
Been a good stay so far.
As soon as the pillow's fluffed, the room refreshed.
The turbulant waters.
A test.
The patience, understanding.
The competition, the best.
As soon as the sheets are washed.
Under the tent, tilled sand.
Refreshed.
A good stay so far.
The nerves of making a fuss.
Too much movement.
Turbulance.
Sleeping, on sand, turning into concrete.
Amzingy
this song hits me hard when im not sad
gimme a break from all this bullshit
This is not my favorite song of all time, but it's a damn good one, and it IS my favorite arrangement and recording ever. Sounds like he's humping his amp like a theremin...it makes me wanna cry just how god damned good it is
Do people hump theremins?
Interlude Lil Peep
This song burns me ...fckn great
I miss my ex
These lyrics were my first tattoo. Pretty faded and almost unreadable at this point, but still my favorite.
When I was in prison this song was stuck in my head everyday. So glad to come out a better person. 3 years sober today. Rocks get in the way but you can always grow past them, theres always a way.
What a beautiful memory... I'm sure it would mean a lot to Isaac that his words and music in your head helped you get through that time locked up. I've been listening to this song for 13 years or so. I've been trying to get and stay clean for 8. So I feel you man. God bless.
same here almost 4 years.
After Mac Miller died, I thought how could this be worse? And for me the only way would be if Isaac dies. Idk how I would live with that happening.
I once just absolutely blasted this CD (and a part of the Good News album) during a two-hour drive back home from a weekend partying in Omaha with my ex and her brother. No one said a word during the whole trip, as they were entranced by what they were hearing. When we got home they acted like they had just had an awakening, demanded to know what they were listening to, and I was promptly forced to burn two CDs for them. Modest Mouse is powerful.
Shane Ersland you sir are a good man. Now just get them to listen to the lonesome crowded west!
awesome man. I remember getting long drive and building nothing albums and playing them constantly until my ex and brother were as much as a fan as myself. no one can deny the realness that Isaac brings
That’s an awesome story, dude. Spreading the good word! I saw Modest Mouse in Omaha last year. Isaac is just a treasure.
In this life like weeds, you're the dirt I'll breathe
Definitely one of their best
This and The Stars Are Projectors are probably my two favorite songs off of The Moon & Antarctica. Then for my 3rd favorite song off that album there's a 7 way tie.
I feel like that discussing MM songs all the time.
Big up to modest mouse and all the fans who read between the lines, geniuses
The Moon and Antarctica is seriously one of the greatest albums I've ever heard. Took me a while to really love this song, but holy shit, every second is perfect. There are no wasted lyrics here. The instrumentation is sublime. Wow.
I'm curious to hear some different interpretations of the lyrics.
Lil Peep sampled this song
Supreme Bape Hype Interlude yeah
love seeing peep on a fuckn modest mouse song Amazing
For real?
@The Nightman Cometh Yeah, in Interlude
we been knew
whenever I listen to any modest mouse album I at first think this isn't necisarily their best album but sure is great. then wo songs laer I'm like ya this is totally their best album hands down.
Rip Lil Peep
Took a while for this song to grow on me but it did, Modest Mouse always does
Modest Mouse, my favorite band, (if only you could know the depth of meaning that I mean to convey), Ive come to realize that this is my fovorite song, (if only you coud know...), the words, the sound, the emotion, the images, the changes within myself, each time I listen and listen and listen...and rediscover, and listen and listen and listen...over and over. Those of you who know Modest Mouse, know how difficult it is to choose one song as their best. I think its great that one of their best songs is one that so few people know of...wasn't played over and over on the radio...won't be remembered by the general masses whatsoever. This is also a song that took me soo long to really LISTEN to, to really appreciate, so it means all the more to me :)
Zachary Merrick
I totally understand. I too am grateful for this band. Saved me on a bunch of occasions
Nothing I say would be able to give your comment the response it deserves, so I'll just say I get you.

Perfect
Best song on m&a
This will be my funeral. I just want them to play this and not say a damn word. I just want to be lowered to this song. Don't even take me to a church
SickMike07 so beautiful
So they can say a bunch of other shit, as long as they don't say "a damn word"? Can they say damn or word by themselves or is it forbidden only when used together at your overly pretentious funeral?
this song destroys me every time
Somebody get a stapler!
LiL Peep
Did he have samples from this song too or something?
That's fucking dope I just listened
he sampled this in Interlude
Owen Conenna yeah :)
After much consideration, this is the one.
Best band ever!
This song right here fills me with unparalleled zen.
I noticed that there's like a hidden guitar riff throughout the whole life like weeds verse that's more noticeable when stoned and with good sound @1:57-2:40.
I don't know musical terminology but it makes a shzwana Nana Nana nu Na dada nana buna type of sound under the da da da da daaa, da da da dadadadah riff. if that helps any.
Austin Hockmuth yes man spot on! It's truly beautiful the first time I heard it stoned af lol.. Next time I'll hear this song trippin' on lsd XD
Base To The Apex man it's such a great album to trip to. the middle portion, or songs like; The stars are Projectors, Cities made of Ashes, ect... just made me feel like I was part of the ocean being pushed and pulled my the moon while sliding over past large animals like whales and squid. really unique thing to experience... then you remember that musics playing and you get another wave of the trip...
Noticed today as well
'I know where you're from, but where do you belong' ....fuck man
this masterpiece
great great song!!!
Isaac is a bonafide poet and a modern-day prophet to boot. Thanks for enriching the lives of so many - lyrically, and, through your musicality - spiritually too. MM, you're a rock to me! :)
+Claire Haby i thought that he hated women.....how r u not picking up on this
pelotudo
Think about what a rock is to a weed... It's something that gets in the way; something you have to grow around to flourish.
I don't think he means it in a good way.
Where could anyone get the idea that Isaac hates women? dafuq?
@Greg Kern a rock can also be the sturdy foundation a weed breaks through (which means it has a stable support and a place to easily absorb nutrients). Seems to be a double meaning.
what is the art on the album cover a picture of? a bird?
It's a vagina you bunch of virgins xD
It's a detailed Ink Blot, Like the psychology ones...
It’s the rabbit from Donnie Darko, Frank.
Joseph Batson W
Haha the comments are gold. It's psychological lithography. Perspectives and personality test using incomplete pictures and shapes and saying what you see. That's the inspiration of the drawing anyways. It's what ever you see it is xD
fantastic
very nice. love the violins
Wish this song didnt end....
The album keeps playing even after this song ends
I fckn agree ..this sound at d end ...maaaan
Interlude by Lil Peep is like a continuation as it samples the outro guitar
This song is just ... wow
wow is an understatement
exactly you cant really put words to it .
it doesnt make sense
In the places you go you see the place where your from
In the faces you meet you see the place where you die
on the day that you die you see the people you met
And in the faces you see, you see just who you've been. A haunting truth.
i wish i could have told you all
Good stuff
My senior year book quote
I'm glad you know the best line in this heartfelt masterpiece
This is such a killer song.
killer dude
+TheSim1derful i thought that he hated women.....how r u not picking up on this
What the do you mean?
Brilliant song
cant get enough of this song
All this talkin' all the time and the air fills up, up, up
Until there's nothing left to breathe
Up until there's nothin' left to speak.
Up until the better parts of space.
+Tobez she was Talkin with a ...syllable.. lisp
+James Robert Archbald you can say what you want but try and think of my ways
I swear that last line is "Up until the DEADER parts of space"
If your breath was life then maybe your words could save me.
Beautiful song
I could have told you...
This is only one of my favorite modest mouse songs ever! It's so hard to choose just one..
forreal tho
It truly is. Like damn they have to have the most golden Discography ever
I was asked recently what my favorite mm song was recently by a mm fan that i had never met, and truly couldn't pick just ONE, hell, can't even pick a favorite album really.....these guys are truly underrated and i like anyone whom knows and enjoys them....think i blurted out "edit the sad parts" that evening but one always finds a new "favorite" when listening to mm'a music no?
It's a challenge to pick the best song on just this album alone. I would probably go with Life Like Weeds or The stars are projectors. Then there's probably a 7 way tie for the third best song off that album.
This and teeth like God's shoeshine
I certainly hope my funeral attendees enjoy this song.
Jason Marrs haha same here
I'm sure they'll be ecstatic and they'll think to themselves... we'll, he always was a pretentious prick
