Mitchell, Joni - Tin Angel Lyrics

Varnished weeds in window jars
Tarnished beads on tapestries
Kept in satin boxes are
Reflections of love's memories

Letters from across the seas
Roses dipped in sealing wax
Valentines and maple leaves
Tucked into a paperback

Guess I'll throw them all away
I found someone to love today

Dark with darker moods is he
Not a golden Prince who's come
Through columbines and wizardry
To talk of castles in the sun

Still I'll take a chance and see
I found someone to love today

There's a sorrow in his eyes
Like the angel made of tin
What will happen if I try
To place another heart in him

In a Bleeker Street cafe
I found someone to love today
I found someone to love today

Mitchell, Joni Tin Angel Comments

1969 - I was a senior in high school and this was the first Joni Mitchell album I bought. I had listened to her first album Song To A Seagull many times courtesy of a very dear friend. She and I had a complex history together and Joni was the soundtrack of our lives, so much so that I cannot listen to Joni without thinking of her, and shedding more than a few tears for missing her.

Joni, you are a true songbird that has flown away so many years ago. Your songs, will always bring goosebumps every time I hear your evangelical voice.

    Joni... God Bless You.

A tear falls from my eye tonight as I listen to,Tin Angel
    Your music is just heavenly!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

May well be my favorite of Joni's many great songs.

So I reference this in my next book. Joni captured something timeless here, with her castles in the sand and her chances to see.

    C.... G....

Joni is an artist, poet, singer, songwriter, storyteller who paints timeless images in our hearts and minds. Her unfailing grace and beauty captivate us time and time again and her music will live on long after we are dust. She is timeless.

    Kept in satin boxes are
    Reflections of love's memories

Powerful imagery pervades this soulful soliloquy in which she reveals so much of herself in telling what for others might be just a nice little expression of love; but Joni phrases her story in ways with which anyone who was a contemporary will readily identify, and more her evocative lyrics and haunting melody move listeners both new and old... and like in her life the song echoes both the beauty and the frailty of love. "Reflections of love's memories..." "Guess I'll throw them all away. I found someone to love today."

This album came out when I was 16. She taught me to sing, to live life fully, and to be bravely different. I have always loved her work. I always will.
