Mitchell, Joni - See You Sometime Lyrics

Where are you now
Are you in some hotel room
Does it have a view?
Are you caught in a crowd
Or holding some honey
Who came on to you?
Why do you have to be so jive
O.k. hang up the phone
It hurts
But something survives
Though it's undermined
I'd still like to see you sometime

I'm feeling so good
And my friends all tell me
That I'm looking fine
I run in the woods
I spring from the boulders
Like a mama lion
I'm not ready to
Change my name again
But you know I'm not after
A piece of your fortune
And your fame
'cause I tasted mine
I'd just like to see you sometime

Pack your suspenders
I'll come meet your plane
No need to surrender
I just want to see you again

We're in for more rain
I could sure use some sunshine on my apple trees
It seems such a shame
We start out so kind and end so heartlessly
I couldn't take them all on then
With a headful of questions and hypes
So when the hopes got so slim
I just resigned
But I'd still like to see you sometime
I'd sure like to see you

"Pack your suspenders, I'll go meet your train" Yup, that's JT. Just check out the cover of Mud Slide Slim, and he's sporting one of his favorite pairs. Poor Joni, Jt was cheating on her with Carly Simon, and any number of "Blonde(s) In The Bleachers"

yes, the suspenders he's wearing on cover of Mud Slide were a gift from her -- and, they are embroidered with Moons and Stars (as in "Judgment Of...") -- at least that's the way I heard it...

In the book Girls Like Us it's revealed this song was about her breakup with James Taylor. Great book for those who are interested in the lives, loves and music of Joni, Carly Simon and Carole King, as well as the world in the 60's and 70's.

Girls Like Us, what a fantastic book! Permanently on my bedside, filled with post-its. Sheila Weller got it right. I discovered "For The Roses" after a devastating breakup in 1972 with what Weller describes as "the corrective to the college boyfriend," referencing Willy Donaldson's place in Carly Simon's romantic progress. Joni and her songs will always be locked inside my heart, relevant now and also taking me back to a time and a place.

    Read it.

I love this song, but I particularly love this lyric: OK hang up the phone/It hurts/But something survives/Though it's undermined/I'd still like to see you sometime. With that lyric, Joni Mitchell perfectly communicates the conflicting emotions you feel when you try to reconnect with someone you once loved, and maybe still love, but who betrayed your trust.

Surprises that many have not listened to this it should more views. Regardless it is a gem from a fantastic album. I bought it many years ago and there is nothing like listening to her on a quiet evening and reflect on her music, just savor it like a fine wine.
I loved this song and a couple of others on the album, very special to those who love Joni.
    Great post
    Peace to you all
