Mitchell, Joni - Morning Morgantown Lyrics

When morning comes to Morgantown
The merchants roll their awnings down
The milktrucks make their morning rounds
In morning Morgantown

We'll rise up early, with the sun
To ride the bus while everyone is yawning
And the day is young
In morning Morgantown

Morning Morgantown
Buy your dreams a dollar down
Morning any town you name
Morning's just the same

We'll find a table in the shade
And sip our tea and lemonade
And watch the morning on parade
In morning Morgantown

Ladies in their rainbow fashions
Colored stop and go lights flashing
We'll wink at total strangers passing
In morning Morgantown

Morning Morgantown
Buy your dreams a dollar down
Morning any town you name
Morning's just the same

I'd like to buy you everything
A wooden bird with painted wings
A window full of colored rings
In morning Morgantown

But the only thing I have to give
To make you smile, to win you with
Are all the mornings still to live
In morning Morgantown

Mitchell, Joni Morning Morgantown Comments

One of the best wakeup in the last 30 years. I wish I will recreate this magic. still remembered yesterday's night there where flying dishes, Loud bad talk, egotic behaviour, and an unjustifiable aggrssive behaviour... What I ask you, after the tempest gone, my dearest...Was it worth deliberately walking on a razor just to produce what "you" calls pathos? You're not as young to even has read some books, watched som moved, get inputs and feedbacks from your environment... So, I ask you again, Is that what you want? Cause that's NOT what I want. I'm getting too old for that shit I had to take six pills just to fall asleep (that made wake up a 15:PM, a wasted work day)... And, anyway, my mood for this new day is fucked. Was it worthy?

    D.... T....

Dan Turney Probably staring down at their cell phones as the world spins round without them. I secretly hope they never reproduce...

Check out Molly Tuttle's cover of this song:

    beautiful lyrics

  19. A.... U....

    man i miss those days...

    A.... U....

yep - but then what is valuable is always valuable

  20. S.... R....

I'm old enough to have heard this when it first came out but was too busy listening to Led Zeppelin I guess lol. I heard it yesterday on the way home and found it entirely enchanting. Didn't know it was Joni Mitchell however a few parts did remind me of her but the voice in general was more toned down or something. Just beautiful!

  21. G.... H....

That one unexpected chord she throws in, in the chorus just makes the whole song for me. Very cool.

    G.... H....

I know exactly what you mean Greg, it gives one a sense of wonder and some other intangible sense.

  22. G.... L....

I listen to this song every morning first thing, the rest of my day is very peaceful. Morgan was my Chihuahua's name in this song He is always with me... Thanks Joni...

  23. M.... C....

    Gracias.

  24. V.... M....

I love this song. It's the first Joni Mitchell song I have ever heard; I had read somewhere that "Ladies of the canyon" influenced one of my favorite albums so I decided to check it out. Before that, a song with such peaceful and colorful imagery only existed in my dreams. The album cover is perfect too - though I know what she is singing about are real city in WV, in my mind Morgantown will always be the town pictured on it. It's not an overstatement to say I would have picked this album out of a thousand others after hearing this.

    V.... M....

+V Mi I lived in Morgantown for many years and still leave near there. This song reminds me of the lovely parts of living there.

    V.... M....

That is so beautifully put Viola! Certain music has a profound effect on people. I found this to be very beautiful and moving.

    V.... M....

As a lifelong resident of Morgantown, WV(with a 8-year absence in Orlando), I can tell you that the picture on the album cover, as well as the song, are a pretty close description of Morgantown in the late 60s and early 70s. The city is built on hills that rise above the Monogahela River valley.

    V.... M....

You have a talent with finding the words.

  25. e.... ....

Gracias por la sugerencia a @balhisay para #easpMOOC13

  28. E.... ....
