Mitchell, Joni - Impossible Dreamer Lyrics

The street was loud
From an angry crowd and
I thought of you, I thought of you
Dreamer
Land of the free
No hungry bellies
Impossible
Impossible dreamer

In the darkest part of the night
Blue shadows conjure you
And in the brightest height of the daylight
Sometimes I blink 'cause I think I see you
Dreaming like you do

The moon was bright
Like day for night
And I thought of you
I thought of you
Dreamer
No acid rain
Love without pain
Impossible
Impossible Dreamer

In the darkest part of the night
Blue shadows conjure you
And at the brightest height of the daylight
Sometimes I blink 'cause I think I see you
Dreaming like you do

The room was dark
And full of sharks
and I thought of you
I thought of you
Dreamer
Give peace a chance
Don't think just dance
Impossible
Impossible dreamer

In the darkest part of the night
Blue shadows conjure you
And at the brightest height of the daylight
Sometimes I blink 'cause I think I see you
Dreaming like you do

Mitchell, Joni Impossible Dreamer Comments
  1. A.... A....

Essa música me faz viajar no tempo, me emociona demais, não consigo explicar o que acontece! Talvez porque seja tão linda, tão profunda, tão singela e tão espetacular! Joni é uma Deusa, um mito!

  2. A.... A....

This song makes me travel in time, it thrills me so much, I can't explain what happens! Maybe because it's so beautiful, so deep, so simple and so spectacular! Joni is a Goddess, a myth!

  3. G.... ....

Yes, it has an 80’s sound. Some of us like that.

No acid rain...Love without pain....Give peace a chance.....Don't think just dance. Profound, brilliant lyrics by JM.

Love you Joni ! Bucket list item would be to have an espresso with JM somewhere in Laurel Canyon and talk about music, politics and social issues.

    M.... T....

We had some conversations in West Hollywood

@Giovanni Bellini Must have been a great experience to chat with JM. NIce.

@Mark Thompson Both times were a complete pleasure. We were both at Cafe D'etoile, which as a joke, sometimes we would lovingly call, Cafe d' toilet, or Cafe D' Twa... add in a t at the end. Lol. The way it is pronounced is Cafe D' etwa. Anyway, Joni was there, and it was just a relaxing experience that we were all there at the same time. We were the only ones there at that time. Go figure, that place is usually happening most of the time. We sat at the table right next to hers, unawares, until Mario, my buddy, looked over and said OMG! He knows so much about her... plus, he had just had a dream about her. He told me about it, like two days prior... and there she was!!!! We talked and laughed for well over an hour. Very wonderful.

The second time was the next weekend, same time, mid afternoon. Wow! What an experience!!!! Joni was very gracious, and lovely. She was there with her close friend Shell.

    Sweet Joni

  8. B.... T....

Dreamy song. Was rumored to be about John Lennon.

  9. A.... A....

Impossible not to like this song, impossible not to be crazy by Joni Michell...!!!

  10. S.... B....

John Lennon is usually assumed to be the subject, but I got a different perspective on this song from a Joni fan years ago. He had never even thought of Lennon (or the Kennedys, or MLK, or any assassinated famous person); he loved the song because it made him think of all the friends he lost to AIDS in the decade it was released. "In the darkest part of the night, blue shadows conjure you / And in the brightest height of the daylight, sometimes I blink when I think I see you." That's a benefit of not being too on the nose in lyrics. It can make a song universal, and special to someone for another reason.

  11. N.... O....

    great song!

  12. W.... J....

Beautiful Joni - her wise words and soothing melodies xx There are not many left in the world with such insights

  13. d.... b....

She wrote this about John Lennon

    Are you sure?

...je me sens souvent comme un " impossible dreamer " !... Vague à l'âme ..en verve....

  15. C.... M....

I laugh now when I remember that my wife and I were arguing when I first heard this song on the radio. I stopped listening to her as I fell in love with this. We're divorced now but my feelings for this have never wavered.

  16. s.... ....

Love this album, 80's style production and all

  17. b.... ....

Talking about "trapped in layers", some people seem to be trapped in technology, he, he...listen to the message! Beautiful sound from the 80's! Would you expect J.M. to use a sound and technology from 2016?, living in the 80,s? Once again, listen to the message, its not a song for technicions...

    b.... ....

+bjofryd2011 -- Yes, you are correct. It's the message and lyrics that are foremost. And before all this hubbub about "layers" I never even considered that this was not an exceptional song.

    b.... ....

    ....true !...

    b.... ....

Snobs only bitch about "layers" because they have this moronic idea that Joni Mitchell can ONLY be a folk singer with her guitar or singing a confessional song at her piano. Comments deriding 80's production are all stupid. The studio sound then was a billion times lovelier than the soulless garbage we've had to endure this decade.

I rest my thoughts.  What a dear arrist.

  24. C.... L....

Futuro Fm mid 90's playlist, Chile.

  25. E.... T....

I love this song but wish it would be remixed.  It sounds like it is trapped in layers and layers of over production.

    E.... T....

+Ernie Tong -- It was definitely a product of its time. Released in 1985, the album "Dog Eat Dog" was a departure for Joni due to its synthetic sound that featured input by British synthesiser musician Thomas Dolby.

    E.... T....

Such great musicians and it has that shitty 80's sound. Vinnie Colaiuta playing a Simmons kit?!?! Thanks cocaine!

  26. K.... O....

My favorite song from this CD!

  27. m.... ....

    YEAH! JONI FAB!!

  28. N.... B....

I always smile when I remember that this is my favorite song. Sends me into a wistful reverie most of the time -- musing how there are outstanding outsiders who are too good for this world.

    N.... B....

I've always been distracted by what I hear as pedestrian-ish production on this song...lack of a better word , my own perception of course. But the song? Can't go wrong with Joni ever...

    N.... B....

One of The Jewels in Joni's Crown. Your Comment is Outstanding.
