Mitchell, Joni - Blue Motel Room Lyrics

I've got a blue motel room
With a blue bedspread
I've got the blues inside and outside my head
Will you still love me
When I call you up when I'm down
Here in Savannah it's pouring rain
Palm trees in the porch light like slick black cellophane
Will you still love me
When I call you up when I get back to town
I know that you've got all those pretty girls coming on
Hanging on your boom-boom-pachyderm
Will you tell those girls that you've got German Measles
Honey, tell them you've got germs
I hope you'll be thinking of me
Because I'll be thinking of you
While I'm traveling home alone
Tell those girls that you've got Joni
She's coming back home

I've got road maps
From two dozen states
I've got coast to coast just to contemplate
Will you still love me
When I get back to town
It's funny how these old feelings hang around
You think they're gone
No, no
They just go underground
Will you still love me
When I get back to L.A. town
You and me, we're like America and Russia
We're always keeping score
We're always balancing the power
And that can get to be a cold cold war
We're going to have to hold ourselves a peace talk
In some neutral cafe
You lay down your sneaking round the town, honey
And I'll lay down the highway

I've got a blue motel room
With a blue bedspread
I've got the blues inside and outside my head
Will you still love me
When I get back to town

  7. M.... B....

"Here in Savannah it's pouring rain." And there you have it.

  8. L.... T....

For the younger.... Been said that `alternative music' term Born from alternative tunings like Joni was into.... Way way b4 Seattle..... One of my fave tunes.... Deserted island for sure! Make Gilligan pedal real fast to charge the batteries!

Joni is simply, hands down, the greatest most prolific songwriter of all time! And that voice-pleeeeeeeez, a goddess of perfection-so damn original and wise to the bone. What a gift to have her as a contemporary in my life to experience such a beautiful genius soul.

  11. D.... J....

The melody seems to be a reworking of Paul McCartney's "When I'm 64". The "Will you still need me" line, is the same as well.

  12. M.... M....

A real special guitar player friend turned me on to this song 40 years ago. That's when I really got into Joni Mitchell's music. I've been playing some Joni Mitchell tunes, and would like to learn this one.

  13. J.... L....

    This got me smiling :^)

  14. E.... M....

    Love you Joni.

  15. J.... N....

It's becoming overrated to call songs like this underrated... but nevertheless, I'll say it anyway: This song is underrated.

  16. F.... R....

I remember staying in this hotel....and truly...EVERYTHİNG was blue. It was surreal .All weekend this song and the love I had for a man was reeling in my head . Weirdly unforgettable experience. The ''peace talk'' never happened.............38 years later from out first meeting, I find a song on You Tube about me by him. 38 years later I cried once again. The song was ''Rock me'' by Brian McCusker....and although you cant tell that it was about me......the film and the words of our last meeting are in the song.I went and worked in Nassau and now ı know it affected us both badly. I am 65 now......but our time will always be remembered.

  17. D.... ....

Sitting in a cafe somewhere on the coast, watching it rain and feeling sad about someone.

that's what this song feels like.

  18. N.... V....

Still the best after all this time.......

  19. E.... M....

I started listening to Joni after my mum passed away, I did it as kind of a send-off, mum loved Joni.
    I luv u Joni!

  20. N.... A....

The cool thing about getting hung up on Court and Spark and Ladies of the Canyon for decades is that now I'm approaching 60 and I've got NEW Joni Mitchell albums.... Blue and Hejira!

    N.... A....

Hissing of Summer Lawns is fantastic as well!
Glad you're getting into Hejira, it's super underrated

    N.... A....

Joni has Beatle/Bob Dylan depth. Her songs grow and morph as you listen and react to her imaging and essence creating. Joni and Ray Davies of/formerly of the Kinks are my two favorite songwriters. Born 7 months apart, they reflect life from the same time frame Both are Jazz/Blues Singers always looking to enlighten us with heartfelt negative brushstrokes. They're both "glass half empty" personalities. Just my opinion.... Be really great, if they could get together and write some songs. You know, "Life Goes On" meets "Magdalene Laundries".

  21. E.... R....

... You & me were like America & Russia were always keeping score"...

  22. d.... h....

Who is the one douche that disliked this song?

    d.... h....

Two douches now ! Where are they?

    d.... h....

d hardin 7 douches . Poor tasteless souls.

    d.... h....

Can I ask why every stupid video someone remarks about a dislike who gives a shit

    d.... h....

    *+ d hardin*
It's just *Ole Furry* doing his "I don't like you.." thing, trying to get a reaction.
    Pay no heed

    d.... h....

same douche that voted for Hillary

  23. H.... ....

This track reminds me of Billie Holiday.

  24. J.... W....

    Joni's meditation on John Guerin...

  25. E.... R....

Definitely one of her best albums...but I could say that about most of them!!

  26. M.... F....

    Lovely musical performance !

    M.... F....

    Lovely musical performance !

  27. d.... b....

It's amazing how her songs remind you of people, places...especially moods you were in.

    d.... b....

    Especially moods...omg yes!

    d.... b....

It is all amazing poetry wonderful music that you see as well as feel!

  28. j.... g....

    Boom Boom Pachyderm  : )

    M.... M....

Is she talking about Pachyderm basses?

  32. S.... ....

Bass as lead guitar, believe it is Jaco, nobody does it better

    S.... ....

chuck domanico on bass deceased 2002 per wiki on thhis particular song Jaco played  on others . I think she used 3 bass players on this album.

    S.... ....

Jaco didn't play on this song, but he did on plenty of other tracks on this album.

    S.... ....

Actually Larry Carleton is in the mix too.

    S.... ....

    Sculptorshaw
I heard Jaco died from a blow to the head during a brawl with a bouncer. ...something like that. I hate it when talented musicians die.

  33. T.... P....

think this is about her boyfriend at the time,
    drummer, john guerin
they lived together in a beautiful, rambling house in bel-aire
it's on the cover of the hissing of summer lawns

  34. M.... M....

i love this song so much

  35. J.... ....

For all the souls who've experienced a long distance drive ...
The ones who felt the greyness of a downpour approaching a new state ...
The Coke cans on the floor of the passenger side ... cause that side was vacant.
    ciao friends ... Joni knows.

    J.... ....

    Joni KNOWS!

    J.... ....

Nice post! You should be writing songs yourself...

    J.... ....

  36. A.... ....

Smooth... you go Joni, you better check those ho's!

    A.... ....

    Ha!

Maybe cause I'm midlifing, maybe because I'm an itchy footed adventuring half loner by nature, half gregarious rambler, presently and for a while Jonesing, but Joni Mitchell has since Easter night been the flame, I've been the moth, and all I ever had of her was HITS, on CD, no less (no vinyl), though pleasant memories on radio as a kid in the car prevail.

But unpublished songwriter myself, half assed or not, the gut knows...Joni is, oddly enough, since I heard Coyote the other night for the first time and that's supposed to be about Sam Sheppard,  I read,  like Sheppard as Yeager in The Right Stuff, taking that Silver Bird up 100,000 feet and more, straight up, until the atmosphere diffuses, and the stars replace the blue sky and white clouds, against space.

    One of a kind.
