Mitchell, Joni - Blonde In The Bleachers Lyrics
The blonde in the bleachers
She flips her hair for you
Above the loudspeakers
You start to fall
She follows you home
You can still hear sweet mysteries
Calling you
The bands and the roadies
Lovin' 'em and leavin' 'em
It's pleasure to try 'em
It's trouble to keep 'em
'Cause it seems like you've gotta give up
Such a piece of your soul
When you give up the chase
Feeling it hot and cold
It's the nature of the race
It's the unknown child
So sweet and wild
It's youth
It's too good to waste
She tapes her regrets
To the microphone stand
She says "You can't hold the hand
Of a Rock'n'Roll man
Very long
Or count on your plans
With a Rock'n'Roll man
Very long
Compete with the fans
For your Rock'n'Roll man
For very long
The girls and the bands
And the Rock'n'Roll man"

every single song on this album is a gem. this is hands down my favorite album of all time.
“She says you can’t hold the hand of a rock and roll man, very long” “Compete with the fans for your rock and roll man”
9 people wannabe a "rock n roll man".

My Favorite song
I am 62, and my parents turned me on to her, for which I am forever grateful!
My dad bought me Court and Spark shortly after its release because he had heard Free Man in Paris on the radio and liked it. What a world that album opened up for me when I was struggling with adolescence.
I.have listened to this album since it first appeared in the music store.. I am 65 now and still count this as a favorite along with Europe 72
I've bought this album tons of times a Masterpiece!
I’ve always heard this is about Carly Simon seeing as this album came out when James was marrying her and had long since split with Joni. Any truth to that? Also I don’t think Carly was a blonde at the time. But I could easily see where this is Joni telling her to not hold her breath and that James will break her heart eventually too (“you can’t hold the hand of the rock and roll man for very long”).
I can't believe I never noticed until today, but I love how the drums are used.
34 of these likes are probably mine
Could be on a beach now just listening to this great symphony.
I was obsessed with this album when it came out. Not a good look for a boy in suburban Houston at the time lol.
Miss Marvella Well, I would have thought you to be cooler than the other boys. And much better taste in music I'm sure.
this is too fast
i am 64 .. listenrd to joni from around 19..had a lot of life .. coporate world , retirement etc.. love loss ..she is still my go to for solice and who i am and who i should be.. when i lose sight..she impacted me ..i just forgot..
check me too
So agree with you
One of my very favorites of hers. Her best album too, in my opinion.
Agreed. Amazing album.
NB: Stephen Stills plays drums on this song.
so SO many gorls aspired to be just this.... it was a blueprint, a skeleton upon which we hung our hearts & souls. & it's an intense life, i'll give it that. but it's also a hard one & a sad one, that never quite gels into any constructive foundation....
love her voice. lyrics and playing. god blessed us with Joni.
Damn...............I remember a friend of mine turned me on to Joni.........I loved her and then bought every album she has done....true hero
Only thirty-nine likes….Too sad for words…on too many levels to express. "Should have died young…we truly have come to the end of the road…societal dead end".
so true. a country of really sads and superficials
I loved this album most of all
Thank you for raising me right Joni. xo
she tapes her regrets to the microphone stand.

@DieHysterical_Hag : re: James Taylor
@Catherine S. Todd
would have broke my heart to leave that cutie too. :O
Timeless & classic from a wonderful time captured on vinyl so long ago. This album calmed my soul. I had a cassette tape of this song, an I would ride my bike with nothing to hear but her voice and this beautiful song, along with "Electricity" through Central Park & other parts of NYC.
