Mitchell, Joni - Black Crow Lyrics

There's a crow flying
Black & ragged
Tree to tree
He's black as the highway that's leading me
Now he's diving down
To pick up on something shiny
I feel like that black crow
Flying
In a blue sky

I took the ferry to the highway
Then I drove to a pontoon plane
I took a plane to a taxi
And a taxi to a train
I've been traveling so long
How'm I ever gonna know my home
When I see it again
I'm like a black crow flying
In a blue blue sky

In search of love & music
My whole life has been
Illumination
Corruption
And diving diving diving diving
Diving down to pick up on every shiny thing
Just like that black crow flying
In a blue sky

I looked at the morning
After being up all night
I looked at my haggard face in the bathroom light
I looked out the window
And I I saw that ragged soul take flight
I saw a back crow flying
In a blue sky

Oh I'm like a black crow flying
In a blue sky

    gorgeous. chilling.

The acoustic guitar sounds like your car going over a platformed bridge at high speed. This song is definitely about cocaine... That melodic, almost lurid squeel at the 3 min mark is some brilliant musicianship.

Love how she drags out the last note almost for eternity after the last stanza of most verses-most notible on vinyl or original cut casette. And the bass really comes through. Bob at 64.

Bob Malack It is such an incredible album! And the bass ..ahhhh..I got this at about the age of 18 or so and I'm 35..no one my age knew of her much..my Mom introduced me to alot of the classic rock etc I love ..but shes not a Joni fan lol. I knew I had impeccable taste in music at a young age! I actually prefer her jazz period albums over the folk but do return to a lot of the folk ones here and there.Lol cheers! 😁🎸👍🎶🎶🎶

Joni Mitchell, Larry Carlton and Jaco Pastorius all at the heights of their powers. WTF else do you want?

The best part of this already fantastic song? The incredible 50s riff on the fadeout - shivers down the spine.

I think this is one of the best Rock and Roll songs. It should at least be in the top ten all time.

This is me; Joni has so much power to describe our state of souls; how come aren't there more people watching and praising this? Musically and poetically amazing! What has happened to humanity?

There are allways beyond category artists. Younger ones havent the catalogue
and legacy yet but the quality and spirit is there. Look around.

The live version of this track is amazing. Her vocals and execution are top notch.

I agree that Joni is phenomenal, but saying she isn't praised is a little off. Joni is one of the only female artists of all time to ever be treated with respect as a full-fledged artist and not just a singer. Joni is one of the only female singer-songwriters who has ever been praised in the same ranks as her male counterparts. "Hejira" and "Blue" are frequently considered among the top 100 albums of all time, and "Blue" was named the best album ever recorded by a female artist. Also, Joni has and was played on the radio, and a lot of people found out who Joni was because of "Court and Spark" having successful radio singles. Mainstream radio specifically plays what's current, with maybe a flashback hour, so of course they don't play Joni songs on the radio right now. However, I've definitely heard a few Joni songs on the radio in Canada in modern times, possibly because Canadian radio has a Canadian Content quota they have to meet. But, anyway, Joni has gotten more praise than a woman in the music industry typically would, and the praise is most definitely deserved and she probably deserves more because her lyrics are some of the best-written lyrics ever. But until the music industry starts taking women more seriously, even Joni won't get as much praise as she deserves.

This is what has happened:...music isn't a precedent in the academic world anymore, it dumbs the new gen down, and they lose the beauty of sumthin like this, they have no clue, and if u play it for 'em, they're not jazzed, b'cuz they have no clue.....its sad really, music is ABSOLUTLY ESSENTIAL to brain development, its been proven many times.....LETS GET MUSIC BACK IN OUR SCHOOL system, then maybe their eyes will be opened!!....TY for ur comment!
