Minor, Derek - Nothing To Something Lyrics

[Aaron Cole:]
She knows
We ain't never had nothing (whoa)
We ain't never had nothing (whoa)
Tryna' turn it into something
We ain't never had nothing
But we try and turn this love into something, yeah, yeah
Into something yeah yeah, into something
Into into something yeah, yeah
We ain't never had nothing
But we try and turn this love into something, yeah, yeah

[Derek Minor:]
Oh don't you judge me
Please don't you judge me
You supposed to learn me
You looking down like you standing above me but I'm so used to that yeah
America acting like they send us they don't play their part
They just play me though
Land of the free was built for free offering it back they just take it from us
This life is a typical culture till now I left
Beat us and broke us with noose around our neck
Sold our families and raped our mothers with no respect
And told us if we learned to read it would be certain death
And that's the hand that we was dealt played it for Jim Crow
White hoods and shotguns intimidate our vote
But still we persisted tried to believe
Even if assassins kill our kings with dreams
And I ain't asking for no sympathy
But the difference in our history often affects who we intend to be
And don't you dare talk about a broken home
Cause for 250 years all our families was buzzed whole
Still trying to put it together I feel like it's taking forever
It ain't for a lack of trying we trying to do better
Gotta rise above it
Trying to turn this nothing into something

[Aaron Cole & Propaganda:]
We ain't never had nothing (whoa)
We ain't never had nothing (whoa)
Trying to turn it into something
We ain't never had nothing
But we try and turn this nothing into something, yeah, yeah
Into something yeah, yeah, into something
Into, into something yeah, yeah
We ain't never had nothing (no)
But we try and turn this nothing in to something yeah, yeah
Yeah

[Propaganda:]
Little homie about to do the trick (uh)
Homie let me learn you a trick (woo)
Black people teach you how to breathe it though
Ex me hello, something out of nothing you should see it though
It's black boy George, black boy fly
Black girl rock hit the rock make it cry
Hold the staff for Moses can't call it its magic from 10,000 hours
And uninhabited, couple, couple of noodles and hot links
A gourmet feast a miracle nothing short a tree
Spotting out concrete yeah white out the concrete
Yeah y'all at it all week
System kill our prophets and mock our mournful
Give us balls and mikes and demand we perform for them
It's crazy 300 years been trying to say to you
Why I gotta explain it, ain't plain to you? (huh)
We never had nothing but nothing was selfish
Kept my belly full of the stuff the rich was missing
Y'all could grow a little, your little minds could listen
Privilege you protect us made y'all a victim
You think you blameless, I know you shamed it
Y'all can't even see the pain in our faces
You ain't got the frame for the affects and displacement
You marvel at the joy that comes from our spaces
Even though

[Aaron Cole & Propaganda:]
Even though
We ain't never had nothing (whoa)
Even though, even though
We ain't never had nothing (whoa)
Trying to turn it into something
We ain't never had nothing (whoa)
But we try and turn this nothing into something yeah, yeah
Into something yeah, yeah, into something
Into, into something yeah, yeah
We ain't never had nothing
But we try and turn this nothing into something yeah, yeah

This is definitely going to be on my playlist👌🏾

For the longest time as a black Male I have almost never truly experienced a memorable moment of overt racism, so it's hard for me to relate in a lot of ways. It really took some years for me to really get it because I personally don't like to talk about race. But now I understand, it is true that your background and history, more often that not, determine so much of your life. For example the work ethic that we have of today came from a lot of Puritan thought.

  6. D.... A....

Even when I tried to watch another video my thumb accidentally clicked on this song. It's clearly too good to resist

  7. R.... M....

    When you can just listen

  8. K.... N....

FYI...... THIS IS NOT AN COMPLAINT IT IS THE TRUTH PERIOD

  9. P.... M....

sins of the father. shit song. anti-chistian sentiment!

  10. M.... F....

I’m just gonna randomly say something completely different from the comments: Don’t you think the cover looks weird

    M.... F....

your kind of out the loop

    M.... F....

Reflectionmusicgroup I'm so thrilled that u guys responded to my comment! I love ur music! thanks for keeping the beats hot and the lyrics meaningful!😄❤😍 btw I do love this song, I just didn't want to talk about what the bulk of comments discussed: politics...... I'm only 16, what do I know?😶

  11. E.... W....

The use of a triple negative in the chorus amuses me

    E.... W....

Elliott Witemeyer lol yeah same here. But I realized that the use of certain phrases like that are done on purpose to help enhance the point of the song. Saying "we [have] never had anything" would not be relatable because the use of double and triple negatives is more common colloquially.

  12. K.... W....

So many European Americans will be offended by what he’s saying and hate it, but please listen with an open heart

All the arguing about race and political views. To be clear no we don't have the racial issues today that existed during slavery or before civil rights era. The system for the most part isn't racist anymore. By that I mean it use to be blacks didn't have same rights as whites. Now a black person can do and be anything. The system isn't racist the way it was back then. Now does that mean there isn't racism today? No. There are still racist individuals and groups. Plus there are still things in place that contribute to a racist culture. For example, certain neighborhoods are zoned and labeled in a way where people from those areas get turned down for loans and stuff to build their credit more often. Who lives in those areas? Mostly minorities. Point is there is still forms of racism. Just because someone didn't see it themselves doesn't diminish what they talk about. First off it's important to remember our history. Secondly it's important to address issues that still exist or we will never solve them. I want to also point out someone doesn't have to be black to identify with the pain expressed in certain songs, even if part of that pain is connected to racist experiences. I'm white but I grew up poor. I've had hardships. Grew up in broken home, never met my father, no positive male around. Mom worked and went to school to try and better herself. I didn't have alot. I experienced alot of abuse and I got into the wrong things as a teen, been to jail. I experienced being mistreated by police many times and I'm white. If nobody wants to believe me fine, and to be clear I always did as officers told me and didn't so much as talk back. That didn't stop police from telling me they wish they could put me out of my misery or slam my brother around for no good reason. Point is I can identify with the pain in music. I'm not a victim of racism but I've been in the bottom and since my teen years rap music has been like a best friend to me. So listen to the song and try and relate. You don't have to go thru the exact same thing to relate with another's pain or understand it. I don't know how Derek Minor grew up for certain, but I'm sure he has had his fair share of bad experiences. What he hasn't personally experienced he knows about from friends, family, our history and current events.
I will also point out that I've noticed Christian rappers being more critical of Trump. Now to be clear I support Trump and I think alot of what the media has said about him is lies and distortions. Most media is liberal and the liberal media and liberals in general have been mad ever since Trump won. They been claiming everything about Trump is bad. I know better. Not saying I agree with Trump on everything. I don't think he is racist cause any look into people he has worked with and befriended over the years shows thst. The man use to be a Democrat and Hillary Clinton once said years ago that she think a business man like Trump would make a good president. That was when they were friends. Now just cause I support Trump doesn't mean I think everyone has to agree with my opinion. I wish some people would wake up and seek to know the facts as Trump is far from what he has been labeled by liberals. However if they don't like him that's their choice. The Christian rappers haven't come out and slandered him though and they have mainly criticised the border situation which is a touchy subject. Not gonna get into all of that but I understand why people are upset about certain things. So instead of putting down Derek Minor or others because you don't agree with all their views, or think they haven't experienced as much bad stuff as they say, listen to the music, try to hear the message and relate and understand best as possible even if you don't agree with everything. Sometime CHH artists say things I don't agree with biblically but I still enjoy their music. Music is meant to be enjoyed and heard as something that we can relate to and connect to. Most importantly before we judge others actions or words we should try to understand where they are coming from first. Doesn't mean we have to support them all the time or remain quiet depending on what they did, but try and understand first. We have enough division, let's not cause more over a song.

    That's a long comment.

I dig this song. Strikes some painful cords in the soul - I feel hurt for my brothers who are hurting like this.
Thank you Derek, Prop, Aaron, for sharing this track.

  15. T.... ....

    What did I do, propaganda???

  16. T.... M....

*POLITICS*, they are horrible in music....

    T.... M....

Timothy Drake talking about race isn’t political. It’s been made a political topic, but it’s not at all.

    T.... M....

shel2185 I can agree with that

  17. K.... J....

Anyone who says Derek shouldn't complain because he's financially well off is ignorant to the plight of current day black people in the US.

    K.... J....

I'm just irritated with propaganda for calling me racist because I'm white. Ironic.

  18. J.... V....

Aaron Cole has such a nice voice

    J.... V....

Jacob Vanderwaarde I disagree. He's ok at times. I think he should stick with rapping and improve there.

    J.... V....

I agree with Jacob he has a gift since he was little.

    J.... V....

@SanctifiedWarrior He sounds good on this beat tho

  20. N.... A....

Oh my days Aaron Cole is so talented

  21. N.... C....

I know this dude personally, and all this shade is unfounded. Just because he is doing well financially doesnt mean he shouldn't use his platform to shed light on problems that need to be addressed. Yahweh bless

    N.... C....

    D. E. Bodiford Christian is a label unless you're truly changed and have love and compassion for people. Yeshua is the example.

    N.... C....

Stephen Scurlock I agree. I thought I made that clear in my comment. My bad.

    N.... C....

This is why there is such an exodus in the CHH ranks. These black men who do this music know that the crowd, most white kids & young adults, don’t really care to hear this stuff & they come after them because their comfort zone is being disturbed. At one point, I thought it was wrong for a lot of these ppl to leave the genre. But now, I see why many left. Some wasn’t for the same reason & some weren’t really in the faith anyway. But for the most part, many CHH artists are saying screw the genre cause these fans want to control the artists!!!! A bunch of cultural Christians who want these artists to sing & rap for Jesus but miss the things that they talk about that the Messiah would probably speak on as well.

    N.... C....

shel2185 White kids are their biggest fan base? What? I'm gonna have to look into that. LoL!

    N.... C....

    D. E. Bodiford look no further than Lecrae. When he started talking about black issues, especially police brutality, the backlash was incredible. Why? Because the fans he had was white kids & young adults.

It's unfortunate that someone like Derek Minor has been taken over by the media system. Use to love him. Someone with his reach and affect disrespecting our President. Romans 13:7 respect those in authority. I am sad for what has become much of hip-hop and rap today, even with those who claim to be Christians.

    C.... J....

I’ve seen that type of profiling happen to every shade and shape of person. Why do you and certain rappers only seem to notice when it happens to blacks? I’ve been told to leave a city or be killed based on the color of my skin. Stop seeing racism as a singularity pertaining to only one group and start seeing it as a whole that happens to every color and creed. And also, the media blows it way out of proportion. Racism only happens to a fraction of a percent of the population by a fraction of a percent of the population. And also, I wouldn’t have a problem with him being negative against trump if he wasn’t a hypocrite. As far as I know, he never talked bad about Obama’s even though he did significantly less for the black population, and black unemployment actually skyrocketed under obama. If he has talked bad about Obama then I’d like the link to the song and I will gladly apologize

    C.... J....

ballinbellow you're missing the point entirely. Happening only to a tiny fraction?? Racism in America is systematic that historically has affected black people more than any other race. Other minorities aren't that far behind unfortunately. Stop watching only Fox News to get your information since they're basically Trump's propaganda machine. I dunno where you got that stat from that black people are more employed now than they were before...and that's because I'm no fan of Obama.

Like it or not. Ignore it if you want, but racism is very alive and real in America. Christians need to speak up more on these issues instead of always wanting to sweep it under a rug, or making blanket statements like, "This happens to everyone, not just xxx people." It's an ignorant argument.

    C.... J....

Kelston Jacobs I don’t watch the news, they’re all biased to some degree. Though I hope you’re not insinuating you get your news from cnn which has been time and time again proven to put out fake news. I actually do my own research. And I never said racism wasn’t around, I said it happens to everyone. Just because some people want to overreact and get their feelings hurt more than others doesn’t mean that it’s happening to them more. Did you also know it’s a fact that whites are shot and killed more by police than blacks? Stop living in the past. Slavery doesn’t exist today. Racism happens to everyone. Millions of Jews were enslaved and murdered, whites used to be slaves, America once rounded up the Japanese. There were several black slave owners in America. Africans captured the tribe that they defeated and kept them as slaves and sold them as slaves. Facts don’t care about your feelings

    C.... J....

ballinbellow expert non blacks on black issues seem to get so angry at the community they don’t care for or about.

    C.... J....

Get with some wise dudes and listen. You can call out people for evil. We have the mind of Christ, meaning we can judge what is right and what is wrong. Romans 13:1 says be subjects to the ruling authorities. You can call out jokers while being subject to them. No flaw here.
