Miller, Rhett - Total Disaster Lyrics

I took the high road once; it was lonely
I find the low road much more fun
I felt like I was running for office
Now I'm always on the run

I pushed a boulder up a-over and over
I pulled a billion dirty tricks
I put away enough Irish whiskey
To fill the river sticks

I told you lies
Then you got wise
The truth is, I'm a total disaster

Girl's name and the color of her eyes
Street name and the phase of the moon
Write 'em down in a beat-up notebook
Set it to a catchy tune

This is what I do
To all of you
Truth is, I'm a total disaster

There's no such thing as perfect
Why even try?
There's no such thing as perfect
Why even try?

If you choose to stay by my side
You got to get that I got flaws
Feel free to leave anytime
Lord knows I will give you cause

Yeah you get to choose
Now you know the truth
The truth is, I'm a total disaster

I wish I could be there to see you perform February in D.C.
Some day soon I will be able to make it to a show though. Truth is, I'm a total disaster.
    🤙💔🤙

I see this being covered and covered, but this is going to be my favorite version dammit.

    Love it! Excellent lyrics.

Destruction's version kills this. Like if metal is the only genre of music that matters

    C.... ....

Do you realise that this is an original composition written and recorded by Rhett Miller?

    C.... ....

DarthBigsby lol what a bafoon this cromlech guy is

  5. J.... R....

For me he is a cross between Alejandro Escovedo and Bob Dylan.

    I am obsessed

Great song. Definitely a bit of a different direction. I too hear the Kinks influence in here a bit. I like the way this feels very "alternative", and yet, at the same time I miss the strumming of Rhett's acoustic guitar. All I can say is the same thing I've been saying for the last 4 years: come back to the Largo on La Cienega dude! :D

  8. A.... C....

The verse Roger Miller, The guitar melody (and tone) The Kinks, The bridge Radiohead. This is not to say this song isn't original and awesome, IT IS! I just hear these influences.

I listened to this 6 times, noticing different things, and I want another new song. I cannot count the times that I've, been forlorn, infatuated, confused, sorry, thrilled, self - deprecating, in love, or out.... i always end up either singing a line, or going for a walk and this is the only thing that makes me feel like I have people out there who know exactly how I feel, and will give me something to do in order to sing out what I mean.... that's rare without being just a witer, musician who's just not replying the same song that seems to be a go-to.
Genius. Ive got 97's tattooed on me because it's a sound that's skin deep

    T.... R....

Jen Kennedy I should get a 97s tat.

    T.... R....

    Jeez. Lighten up, dude.

Rhett is the kind of storyteller that you either want to be or are when no ones looking, with the perfect soundtrack EVERYTIME, the story gives you the soundtrack for when you feel the need to literally sing one of his. or the 97s songs when.... ever.
    Thank you for.... this.

  11. C.... J....

The tone on that guitar riff is Kinks-esque.
