Merle Haggard - Waitin' For A Train Lyrics

All around the water tanks
Waiting for a train
A thousand miles away from home
Sleeping in the rain.

I walked up to a brakeman
To give him a line of talk
He said if you've got money
I'll see that you don't walk.

I haven't got a nickel
Not a penny can I show
Get off, get off, you railroad bum
And he slammed that boxcar door.

He put me off in Texas
The place I dearly love
The wide open spaces all around me
The moon and stars up above.

Nobody seemed to want me
Nor to lend me a helping hand
I'm on my way from Frisco
I'm going back to Dixie Land.

Though my pocketbook is empty
And my heart is full of pain
I'm a thousand miles away from home
Waitin' for a train.

Nobody seemed to want me
Nor to lend me a helping hand
I'm on my way from Frisco
I'm going back to Dixie Land.

Though my pocketbook is empty
And my heart is full of pain
I'm a thousand miles away from home
Waitin' for a train...

Jimmie Rogers was inspiring; Merle Haggard, however, *is* the inspiration — he is the greatest of all time ... for all time ...

Jack Wright , when I was a youngster growing up , I really didn't get his music but man oh man today I just love listening to his one of a kind music !! seen him live about twenty years ago , my dad would have been proud of me enjoying Merle's music .

  10. J.... H....

I finally had the joy of seeing him live in Charles Town, West Virginia when he was 78.. I drove 8 hours to get there, and am glad that I did, because he died only a few months later. I don't use the term "cool" very often, but Merle was really cool in his old age. As a former hobo and a lover of TRUE country music his music always meant a lot to me.

  11. 1.... ....

RIP Merle. I love you and your music! Always will.
