Menzingers, The - When You Died Lyrics
I was on my way to heaven when you died,
I was racing up the express lane, I was cheating HOV lanes,
I made it to the gate in record timing,
I quickly threw my hazards on, no bother finding parking,
I was on my way to heaven when you died.
I was dressed in all black and I hoped,
that nobody would notice me,
or the bolt cutters I was hiding,
underneath my oversized jacket,
I snuck around the back and broke you out
When the guards weren't looking,
I was on my way to heaven when you died.
But then it was all over,
they got us surrounded,
cuffed us and threw us in the car,
when I wake up I want to talk to a lawyer,
I demand a fair and speedy trial.
Where do people go when they die?
How do you keep them alive?
How do you make sure that something like this
won't ever happen again?
Not to any other friends.
How could a perfect human run out of luck,
when there's just so many horrible people screaming
"jackpot!", I cannot help but fear the thing I can't control,
the things I'll never know.

I was in class when you died. Didn’t know when I got on the bus that morning that that’d be the last time I’d see you. Miss you dad.
This deserves at least 3 million views.
This would make an amazing song for a robbery scene that goes bad
chords sound a lot like Play Crack The Sky at some points, but maybe that's just me??
Charlie Kelly yep i heard it too
I heard this band play for the first time in 2011 at a tittle fight and touche amore show. been listening to them ever since.

perfect song from a perfect band
Eighteen months ago today, my best friend was murdered by her husband, he killed their 2 year old son & her almost 10 year old daughter before turning the gun on himself. I had my alarm set for Pandora to play to wake me. & after about a week of numbness, I finally broke. She was my perfect person. So much emotion for this song, I can't listen without crying. Wishing & hoping I could have been there to save her. Her children. Thank you, Menzingers. This song is my song for her. Them.
Courtney Winn I'm so sorry. Today is about 2 years I lost my friend to heroin and I can't this song out of my head. I hope things get better. Pma
@Jeremiah Stoyer I'm sorry for your loss .....I just lost my brother to heroine over dose 10/7/2019 my friend sent me this song for him 💜🎶🎶🎶
@Vmarie R I'm sorry. Heroin sucks
What an amazing idea for a song
such a beautiful song
I thought this was a Bob Dylan cover the first time I heard it
This song is perfect.
I hear a lot of Greg Barnett influence in this one.
For a band whose acoustic songs or acoustic versions are nearly always superb, I feel this song was a let down.
I respectfully disagree. The raw emotion of this song is captured perfectly by the simplicity of the chords which cause the listener to focus more heavily on the vocals and lyrics. To me, that is where the true magic of this song lies.
@Aaron Devine I also have to respectfully disagree. I think the Menzingers with the whole album (not just this song) have tried to a do things a bit differently to freshen things up. Which is fine, and in some cases it's worked pretty well. However with this particular song, especially the vocals, Greg seems like he's having a go at doing a Bob Dylan-esque song. I don't think it suits him and it's that, rather than the lyrics, which I don't like.
I want to be like Greg Barnett
