Megadeth - Looking Down The Cross Lyrics
[D. Mustaine]
[solo: Mustaine]
Now before they take me
Now you'll know why death
Was summoned here tonight
I'll recall my perils
They'll kill me in pride
No, I can't run away
There's no place to hide
Though too much to live for
I owe enough to die
Ask not for salvation
My death shall mean their lives
High priests of sin
Destiny, fate the wicked ones gate
Beckoning you in
Down the walkways
Through the blood stained town
Looking down the cross
Bleeding from the crown
Led to stay
To die besides the thieves
Kill the king
Of the world to be
And now to you, this will come
A putrefying pestilence
More noxious than the serpents breath
Malevolently destined
More corrupt than the malice of
Choronzon
More disease than the wind
Of the moonlight sun
Putrefaction you've caused
No need for confession
Now you wish you had a god
To stop your demolition
Crushing the bones of the hundred folds
Swinging the judgment hammer
Man, woman, child no-one is safe
The heads of the dead are the banner
And this was all you got
So don these broken wings
Sands of time run out
Bells of hades ring
Is this a nightmare
To unhallow thy name
Smell of brimstone
Dancing in the flames
No help now
As you fulfill his task
Chief of evil
Has got you by the ass
Set free
To sit upon the throne
Just a dream?
You're weeping all alone
[solo: Mustaine]
Looking down the cross
(speak no evil)
I'm looking down the cross
(speak no evil)

We should do a nice, creepy video to this this song with footage of Mel Gibson’s “The Passion of Christ” or Monty Python’s “The Life of Brian”
Now before they take me and my blessed life
Now you'll know why death was summoned here tonight
I'll recall my perils they'll kill me in pride
No, I can't run away there's no place to hide

Ask not for salvation my death shall mean their lives
Hatred and guilt the alter they've built, high priests of sin
Destiny, fate the wicked ones gate beckoning you in
Down the walkways through the blood stained town
Looking down the cross bleeding from the crown
Led to slay, to die besides the thieves
Kill the king of the world to be
And now to you, this will come a putrefying pestilence
More noxious than the serpent's breath malevolently destined
More corrupt than the malice of Choronzon

THIS SONG IS CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED !!! Best song to me on the first album and definitely in my top 10 of Megadeth. The lyrics, the progression , the riffs, the fucking bass line...God !
Solo sounds like the devil's island
I get asked so often who I like better Metallica or Megadeth and I'm sorry I can't like Metallica more than Megadeth Megadeth f****** rules they freakin rule
That riff from 1:54 is orgasm for my ears
Its hard to imagine they were strung out on heroin the whole time making the album
no this one toooo tame
1:53 DREAM OF CALIFOOOOOOOORNICATION
Lol I've never heard that before, that's pretty cool
Haha I didn’t hear what you were talking about so I played the song and it’s literally the first notes that come from the song it’s just much faster here

Fuck the cross.
Though too much to live for I owe enough to die

I love the way he sings this part!!!
Sooooo good
this was so much more badass before they remastered it.
Easter is coming!!!
you`re weeping all alone!
Classic Megadeth! This band is at it's best when Dave's vocals are at a minimum and is feuding with Metallica! Still no agreement on "no life til leather" Dave if you read this write new shit now! Lol
is degrasso playing in the remaster, or still gar?

Songwriters: Dave Mustaine
Kevin Sanchez dope ass lyrics
@ralexlu and he was just a young punk when he wrote this. That shits crazy man
@K1NGSMOK3 brilliant isnt it
@Greg Paterson yeah it just blows my mind he was around my age (21), coming up with these insane riffs and lyrics.
jeder nur ein Kreuz!!!
A masterpiece.
I usually don't care for the remasters, but here Dave actually did the original vocals justice so it's cool.
The opening riff sounds like it could be a score to a horror movie
"Father, please forgive them, for they know not what they do...."
- Luke 23:34
bert_sampson fuck yea \m/ love that song
«I just never had the chance to ever meet you»
Eminem «Evil deeds»
This song is just so epic.
32 years ago today wow
how many moose could Dave Mustaine stain, if Dave Mustaine could stain moose?
michael metcalf 42
According to the CD jacket, the band spent half of the money given to them to make this album on drugs.
I don't understand the whole album cover thingy, how did Megadeth get screwed over the album cover?
I think I heard somewhere they were still completely broke after So Far So Good because they were spending like $500 a day on drugs collectively
@Isaac White Mustaine send a sketch to Combat Records (which is basically the cover you see in the demo), but they lost it, so they just made up that shitty thing out of what they remembered from what Dave had told them via telephone number of times. It's a plastic skull they got from a store with foil ("solid steel visor" 😂) and ketchup.
Wrong, they actually spent all of it on drugs. After that, they asked for another budget, in which half was spent on drugs.
Im ok with that
So different than early Metallica where you can actually hear Ellefson through all the tracks.
It is interesting when you hear how different kill em all is compared to other Metallica albums. Mustaine influence on that first album is unmistakable. Just with Chris and gar it has so much more power. I personally am happy we got to have both great bands in the different directions they went.
i actually like the remastered version but wtf is that 1:21 ? is it autotune ? i don't think so but it sounds like autotune
robux dealer yeah this is remastered. On the remastered you also get the remastered cover art like you see up there ☝️. If I'm not mistakenmaybe some of the vocals and instrument parts were re-recorded.. or was that SFSGSW? 🤔
Autotune didn't exist in 1985.
They spent half their album budget on Autotune. That shit was expensive in 1985.
@Devrim Odabaşı In this part are effects
@Devrim Odabaşı In That part is maybe some bad cut on this record, because the one i have doesn't sound like that
Daves solo at the end is one of his best. Such a fucking good song!
KIMB the way it was meant to be heard 30 fucking years ago!
eek.fuckin' heavy hehehehe (^<^)
fuck yes it does
love this album and song and this is the greatest band ever
Isaac White and I just noticed your "nice try there" Comment , even though you say immediately before , "they didn't steal those songs ... blah blah" ... at least your beginning to admit it .... and my sources Are from old magazines and interviews form the 1980's, I know it's hard for you kids to understand , but not everything can be found on the internet , Especially the origins of underground (which is what it was back then) music .. Dave Mustiane claimed "Trapped under ice" , "Battery" and "leper Messiah" back then. Meanwhile James and Lars jammed with Lady Gaga , Lulu and sued their fans ....
Isaac White "here's one of the first songs Dave showed us" - Starts playing jump in the Fire , Lars Ulrich - 30th anniversary of KEA, You can hear and see that one live , Dave Did help Co-wrote songs , but the only ones they give credit for are the ones that were completely written when he met them ... getting Yet ..?
I know that Dave did a little fucking around with Jump in the fire but I don't know if he wrote the whole song. You say the black album is pop metal, yet you don't realize that Risk is pop metal -_- Dave's guitarists weren't virtuoso's, the only people I can think of that comes close to it is Chris Broderick, and Marty, that's it. Dave did not write the first 3 Metallica albums, he may have had a few small contributions and that's it. I also don't understand why you said Trapped under ice was written by Dave when a long time ago (I don't remember exactly when) You said that Metallica supposedly ripped a bunch of Metal church's riffs that Metallica supposedly turned into trapped under ice. As for Battery, I have to call BS, because that song is pure Hetfield, besides, Dave was long gone at that point. Some of your sources are from the 80's, around the time where Dave was still jealous and pissed at Metallica, a time where he could have lied to make Metallica look bad. With Dave's 200 songs, a lot of them are rushed and are lack luster, I can pick out a few gems in Megadeth's discography, but just because Dave has a lot of songs, doesn't mean they're all GOOD. Also, as far as i'm concerned, the only song Dave sings in a foreign language is A tout le monde, and that's it, if there's another song by Dave that's in a different foreign language, then tell me. I specifically said the only song I believe Metallica STOLE, was The four horsemen, I can't say for sure about Jump in the fire because that song barely has any history behind it. You can some stuff about Kill em all, because that time period was super close to when Dave was in the band, but for Ride the Lightning and Master of puppets, it would take only an imbecile to say they were written by Dave and belong to him.
Isaac White I'm not reading that novel you left Sonny I'm already aware of the truth about this ,the Bullshiter Ulrich himself , says it , on the "30th anniversary" live Killem all (please watch it Metallica hasn't sounded that good in decades ) "this is the first song Dave showed to James and I " -Lars Ulrich "jump in the Fire" , Metallica not only "borrowed " music from Dave they did 50 covers, and then they ran out of Dave music & Cliffs ability and went pop Metal, They then appeared live with Lady Gaga .... but by all means , keep telling yourself they "rulzzzz" , while I listen to this Invincible Jazz Metal ..
@Frank Peltier shut the fuck up clueless moron.
hostiaaa!
This song alone makes Megadeth a legendary band. This album is pure genius.
Record sales dont say it, but Megadeth is a far better band than Metallica. Dave never turned into a pussy like Lars and James. His later records dont suck Ive like every single that has been released
fredtflail yes he never turned into a pussy .... but Lars and James fakes their way through Off of Dave's music and inspiration , and when the "well of Mustiane" dried up , they went pop Metal ... metalica is the fairly tale , fake version of Thrash , Megadeth Is and always has been, the real deal , because of Dave
Crimson Bardamu and this song sounds like it could’ve been made today it’s so amazinh
St. anger says it all
Even back in the 1980s and early 1990s, many metalheads overlooked this album. They would own Peace Sells, So far so good so what, and Rust in Peace, but almost nobody had killing is my business. This is one of their best albums in my opinion.
I couldnt't believe it when Dave said he wasted alot of good riffs on this album and if he had to do it over again he would do it different.
+kurzackd He comes up with riffs and can then only use them once to avoid using the same riffs in his different songs. He used some of his very best riffs on this album.
Daves the one who said it, read his book
Maybe he just thought it had too many riffs. This song changes quite a bit. he could have saved some of them for later or something. I personally disagree with him too.
Dream Theater would be very proud of the amount of progressions in this song! This is a perfect song!
That was his intention. He made this album out of spite and anger and jealousy. The point was to rub Metallica's face in how much fucking better he was at music than them. It didn't work unfortunately because it was so good people didn't understand it. It's only been in the past decade or 2 that people realize what a fucking good album their debut was, especially with all the remasters like this months Final Kill edition.
Honestly it sounds weak on the album but it's pretty damn amazing live
Did they start playing it again? Last time I checked there were only early 80s videos of them performing that song.
+dusch888 Nothing a proper audio setup can't fix
Listen to the original version with the original album cover; it's much dirtier with more reverb, yet somehow how works, and is ten times better than this remaster.
Junior rocks this track!
I remember the first time listening to KIMBABIG and I just thought WTF is this? After listening a second time Metal was never the same again and there's no other band who ever got me like Megadeth. It's a well known subgenre of Metal, but totally different to any other band. Just unique!
Same here man
Dave is a one-of-a-kind musician ... and a one-of-a-kind human.
2:42 One of those legendary song parts only Dave Mustaine can come up with! \m/ ^-^ \m/
Guitar-wise this song is a masterpiece. Just listen how the riffs change, it's just breath taking. I just love all of the Megadeth songs without chorus
This is my third favourite Deth song, behind Hangar 18 and Ashes in Your Mouth x)
@Amir360 I wouldn't say that the songs without a Chorus are always the best. A chorus doesn't always have to be repeated, this song has a chorus in the end too, so does Peace Sells, it just builds up to that chorus and writing songs that way is something only Dave Mustaine can do that great x) (And Devil's Island has a phenomenal Chorus, in my opinion xD)
This whole song has some of his and Chris Poland's best playing ever. It's amazing what they achieved with their debut and only 4,000 bucks to record it, with no producer either I believe.
Yep only Dave Mustaine could have come up with that...
This is the song that made me a Megadeth fan. The scope. The power. The incredible riffs...this one won me over.
Best MegaDETH song as well.
Best megadeath song
So out of touch, I had no idea they had re-mastered this album. It has always been my favorite, and I can't wait to clutch this within my grasp.
dum dum dum dum dada dum dum dum dum daduda dum.... haha Ellefson is awesome.
I LOVE THAT FUCKING JAZZ RIFF
