Marvin Gaye - I Met A Little Girl Lyrics

I met a little girl, sure was fine
Pretty little thing just about blew my mind
She took me home and ahh made love to me
I knew right then and there this is where I wanted to be
Most of my life I had been all, all alone
And you're so sweet to me, don't think i'll ever roam
And then one day as time will pass
I had this feeling that our love would last
Nothing could go wrong and it seemed everything I did
Seemed to please you, all the heartaches you hid

Then one night after we made it, and we were through
That's when I decided I wanted to marry you

Do you take this woman to be your lawful wedded wife
To love, hold and cherish for the rest of your life?
I do, yes I do, I do darlin'
'Cause I love you

1964

Once you really loved me
Once I really loved you

1976

Then time would change you
As time would really change me
We thought our love would stand the test of time
And as I sing this song right now I wonder today, today
If you're a friend of mine

Cry cry cyr-I have done some crying
Woman, you have caused my tears to flow
Cry cry cry-d you cry about me?
Dou you think about the kind of love we had?

Hal le hallelejah
Hal le lu i'm free
Hal le hallelejah
Hal le lu i'm free
[crying and fade]

My friend Anne Kelly got me this album in 1979 and later that year I took it to Abu Dhabi (Al Ain)
I began going with my future husband in April 1980. I played this album over and over to him
Often crying at this track. We married in December 1980 after a short courtship
He married again in 1985 our son was 9 months old,
I still cry listening to this.... asking When did I stop loving you ?
At least Anna had ALL the songs they wrote together

Marvin was a genius in music. Also his music was prophetic

  26. S.... A....

Reading as many heartfelt and thoughtful comments about our late great brother Marvin Gaye, just inspired me to say this......Marvin used the method to his madness to be successful......this is the key......we all have a method to our madness. Are we using it for our success?

  27. C.... D....

Marvin put every emotion in him when he sang this song. Crying...."I was your babyyy" don't you remember anna?? God rest his soul❤

  28. V.... R....

I first bought and heard this album back in 1984. As I was always a Marvin Gaye fan, I still didn’t know what I was gonna get. Just looking at the whole album, as it was very graphic with symbolisms from a Monopoly game board. On one side, it has themes of the beginnings of a marriage and happier times . On the other side, it depicts a story of pain and divorce. Extremely symbolic , it shows a husband who hands over a album and money to his ex wife and the divorce judgement amongst other things. After listening to the whole album, it made me think twice about getting married- so emotional. You actually feel Marvin’s pain.

    Here, My Dear"

I guess I'd have to say this album is
    dedicated to you.
Although perhaps you may not be happy,
    this is what you want,
    so I conceded.
I hope it makes you happy.
There's a lot of truth in it, babe.

I don't think I'll have many regrets, baby.
Things didn't have to be the way they was, baby.
You don't have the right to use the son of mine
    to keep me in line.
One thing I can't do without
is the boy whom God gave to both of us.
I'm so happy, oh, for the son of mine.

    So here it is, babe.
I hope you enjoy, reminisce, be happy,
think about the kisses and the joy.
But there were those other moments too,
the times that were cloudy and grey.
    Bad.
But you taught me that was life.
    May love ever protect you,
may peace come into your life.
Always think of me the way I was.
    Ha, I was your baby.

    This is what you wanted.
    Here, dear, here it is.
Here, my dear, here it is

He was going through a divorce with Anna Gordy and in divorce settlement he made this album this song she sued him invasion of privacy and at the end he was left with his music and a dollar she got all the proceeds from this album although it did not do well! Anna was 40 and Marvin was'24 they married he latter said he did so in order to get closer to Barry Gordy her brother and owner of Motown records they fought hard Anna and Marvin they married twice she hated that Marvin had his daughter Nona with a 16 yr old he fell in love with but they got back together spite it all and then again went through it all again, Google must have info on all this also Marvin then finally won a Grammy for sexual healing his life was looking up yet crippled haunted by his father who loved wearing women's cloths a pastor and a monster to his children which spiralled Marvin into drug addition such a sad life of blessings and hell I hope he's now in a better place even at the end it had to end at his father's hands sad- sad- and such a loss! God Bless you Marvin Gaye 💜

    🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽

  79. j.... d....

    wow positive energy

  80. R.... W....

At the end of the song, Marvin responds "Hallelujah, I'm free" in a dark and somber tone.

  81. v.... m....

This is some sick shit, a perverted ass song about meeting and having sex with a little girl while you were grown ass fuck and then marrying her later on. This is my opinion and don’t @ me for shit.

    v.... m....

You dumb ass f*** that ain't what this song about the woman he's talking about was older than him

    v.... m....

@Jaxson Pierre Also, "don't @ me"? Aside from the original comment being ignorant and willfully uninformed, she had to cap it off with one of the many, many stupid and meaningless social media threats out there at the moment. The only way it could have been any worse is if she tried to say Gaye was "cancelled."

  82. Y.... ....

Even though this album was done during Marvin's separation from Anna and he sings of the mess they went thru, this is my VERY FAVORITE collection right here!😍😍😍😍😍

  83. C.... R....

Man she broke this man's heart. I know she feels super shitty. I know I would.

    C.... R....

not for real, he cheated on her, got involved with Janis and drugs, and for years she sat in the background writing his arrangements thats why she asked for the proceedings from this album, which he admittedly through together hoping it would flop, unknown to him that his soul would skyrocket it's popularity
I love me some MARVIN but he sought after her until she caved in and after she gave him everything she could she still was never bitter about him falling in love with other women, she even said it

  84. W.... L....

"You don't have the right to use a son of mine to keep me in line. One thing I can't do without is the boy God gave to both of us. I'm so happy for the son of mine." I can relate!

  85. L.... ....

GOD BLESS YOU MARVIN. YOU HAVE BROUGHT JOY TO SO MANY PEOPLE, WITH YOUR BEAUTIFUL SONGS FROM YOUR HEART 💞 TO OURS. LOVE ❤️ YOU MARVIN....
