Marshall Tucker Band, The - Never Trust A Stranger Lyrics

We were riding through the flatlands
We were searching for two prisoner
Who just broke jail
A tall one and a lean one
Rode a chestnut stallion
And the word was that the main man
Well he was mean as hell

An outlaw is a man
Who never understands
A word called danger
He learns to shoot and ride as a child
And to never trust a stranger
And he's always called a better man

We chased him to the border
All the way to El Paso
The ride was long, the ride was hard
But the sheriff said we can't let 'em go
He said let me tell you something
I've been tracking for a long time
They never trust a stranger
And they take care of their own

An outlaw is a man
Who never understands
A word called danger
He learns to shoot and ride as a child
And to never trust a stranger
And he's always called a better man

Today's man is an outlaw
On that long road to freedom
You work him to take his pride
And then you try to cheat him
Then one day you figure out
It's a long long story
An outlaw is a man who takes care of his own

An outlaw is a man
Who never understands
A word called danger
He learns to shoot and ride as a child
And to never trust a stranger
And he's always called a better man

Marshall Tucker Band, The Never Trust A Stranger Comments
  1. B.... H....

They have a sound like no other!

  2. D.... D....

This song reminds me of a great
    Western Movie. . .
    ( Never Trust A Stranger) (2019)

  3. K.... A....

This a badass band and song...and that flute sounds hippieish ;the 70s music was just rock n roll. The chemistry of the ingredients of MTB was just rare and awsome

  4. B.... P....

I was in a Skynyrd tribute band in northern Illinois back in 1989 and had the honor of opening for MTB at the Blue Moon Ballroom in Elgin. It was the highlight of my early career as a musician at the time as I got to meet Doug Gray and Jerry Eubanks backstage. Great artists and great band!

  5. R.... A....

If you can distinguished music from crap marshal tucker is pure music pure talent pure straight all of the above plus i don't believe that thave ever goten credet for being one of the best groups ever in my book country or country. 6. L.... S....

    I don't trust any of you 😒

  7. B.... H....

A friend (from West 'By God' Virginia), first put me on to them many years ago.  Been 'hooked' ever since!

  8. T.... S....

Eerie song that paints a picture in your mind.

    T.... S....

Cinematic visuals run thtough on many of their tunes 🎺🎻

  9. B.... H....

How could ANYONE not like this? Perhaps, they're Black Eyed Children?

  10. D.... W....

The Marshall tucker band belongs in the rock and roll Hall of fame..

  11. p.... ....

a great album by one of the best bands of all time, it doesn't get a whole lot better...on top of being incredible musicians they were down-to-earth good guys too

  12. G.... V....

This could be in the Good the Bad and the Ugly

  13. B.... F....

ain' much better man than a Caldwell

  14. A.... T....

it's time they should already been in the rock and roll hall of fame

  15. D.... H....

  17. P.... L....

This song paints an awesome picture. One of my favorites along with take the hiway. Was in the army when I first heard tucker. Them and the Allan bros. Are my 2 favorite bands, saw them both many times.

  18. B.... C....

    From 1977
Ah i can actually remember hearing this played a lot on the radio stations riding down Interstate 95 south through North Carolina and South Carolina to Florida.

    B.... C....

Yeah, back when radio stations played real tunes....today's predictable, robotic rotation of worn out tunes on so-called rock stations is a pathetic mess.

  19. L.... S....

I've been listening to them for years, and they still sound good

  20. G.... H....

they're from s.c. but they sound tennessee

  21. j.... j....

My Verry Best Marshall Tucker's Country Rock Tune

  22. Q.... W....

years ago in Portsmouth, Va there was a stadium concert (Frank D Lawrence stadium) and the opening band didn't show up...Tucker boys came on early and promised to play an adequate amount of time to make up for the loss of the opening act....they played for over four hours and every song was perfect........what an amazing performance!

    Q.... W....

    They don't get any better.....

    Q.... W....

went to see them at the Boathouse in Norfolk in the early 2000's for several years in a row. They never disappoint.

  23. K.... O....

I think Tommy was coming into his own as a song writer, realizing his own talent, and coming out from his brother's shadow with his work on Carolina Dreams. Any time you hear him talking about it, the pride just comes out in his voice. Another talent lost to us, way too soon.

  24. C.... H....

If you don't like this, you just don't like some of the best sounds that a band can put together, listen to the separation of instruments.God.bless and thanks for MTB.

  25. J.... B....

Another awesome song by MTB. Listen to Toy picking-The beautiful flute. Great Doug Gray vocals. Maybe the perfect song!!!

    J.... B....

I totally agree. These guys were awesome, mixing all types of music with the southern rock. Love em'!

  26. J.... B....

  30. M.... F....

This song is so strong on image that i am suprized nobody has added a video to the soundtrack. If i could i would.

  31. M.... R....

great lessons .. never understand the word called danger, learn to shoot, never trust a stranger, take care of your own, there is always a better man , words to LIVE by!

  32. W.... I....

Great stuff, saw them at Niagara Falls Convention center in the 70s. Thanks for the memories.

  33. M.... M....

    RIP, Tommy and Toy

  34. J.... L....

put the Marshall Tucker Band in the Rock n Roll Hall Of Fame

    J.... L....

+James Liebherr They also belong in the "Western Music Hall of Fame". No one does Western Cowboy like MTB.

    J.... L....

@Douglas KM Galanti I agree if you like them Gorge Macorkle son Justin has his own band now check them out The Justin Macorkle Band

    J.... L....

+James Liebherr There should be a southern rock hall of fame.

    J.... L....

The Rock & Roll hall of fame is tainted without them. The people who run the place are clueless.

    J.... L....

I don't think I have been on any music video that somone didn't say that about that band.

  35. s.... ....

    thanks for sharing.

  36. J.... V....

My favorite song off of one of my favorite albums! Thank you so much for the upload.

  37. D.... T....

    Honor Respect Gratitude

  38. R.... F....

still have the vinyl in my record collection...

    R.... F....

    So do I.

  39. F.... ....

True. I remember those summer time open-air concerts out with some friends seeing MTB, Charlie Daniels, etc. No cares. No worries. Entire life in front of us, girls all around. None married. No baggage yet. Free 'n easy. So true. So true.

  40. p.... ....

its funny you say that. In the 70's me and my friends lived for this shit, seen them 5 times in concert, we knew every song and every word to every song. now here I am 35+ years later and I am listening to this for the first time in at least 25+ years and they are incredible. The memories it brings back are things I havent thought of in many years. I feel a sense of calm. point is, these bands have such an impact on us, but we grow up and loose touch with the feelings they left us with!

  41. p.... ....

MTB is a great band !

  42. L.... F....

Listening to this one I'm bobbin like I'm ridin a stallion!! Had forgotten this song was so great - thanks for posting it!

  43. k.... ....
