Marshall Tucker Band, The - Cattle Drive Lyrics

Hired me on a greenhorn
Didn't know a rope from a horse
But I wanted to be a cowboy

So I took the job of course
The foreman he said "Son you gonna ride
At the end of my herd"

All the wranglers sat around in a circle
And nobody said a word
'Cause there's a woman in my dreams
That keeps me alive

If I ever see her again
Lord I'll never ride drag on another cattle drive

There's a rumor goin' round
That we're near a Kansas City town
And when you're ridin' drag on this cattle drive
It takes 'bout a week for the word to get around

'Cause there's a woman in my dreams
That keeps me alive
If I ever see her again
Lord I'll never ride drag on another cattle drive

  22. m.... v....

Great song, great guitar run as usual by Toy. Heard Paul Riddle their drummer once say he'd something lose his concentration while playing cause he was so blown away listening to Toy go off on runs. I can certainly understand. Thanks Toy.

  23. K.... E....

Tucker Band is the Best Band Ever

  24. S.... B....

AWESOME SOUTHERN BOYS ❤❤❤ this (RIP) Tommy Toy George y'all will never be forgotten Thank ya MTB✌💙

  25. J.... C....

m tucker plays so close to reality, if you are on a cattle drive from say the Pecos to Kansas City in the 1880's and you are a cowboy at the end of the drive you are going to eat shit, dirt, grim, dust and everything else, this is a shit place to be

  26. J.... C....

    Stunning

  27. L.... R....

My late father bought me a CD rerelease of The Marshall Tucker Band's 1980 album, "Tenth".  It has GREAT sound on it.  Look for it at Amazon or eBay, and you should find a CD copy of the album for sale there.

  28. f.... h....

being from SC ive had the pleasure of seeing the Tucker Band (original) 15 times with every band from the south...Charlie Daniels, Outlaws, Wet Willie,Grinderswitch,38 Special,Molly Hatchet,Allmans.ARS...when Toy got under the lights with that black Les Paul he was the very best..i guess them being my state band i had a partial favorite but thank God i had the opportunity to see the greatest of the greatest the South had to offer

    f.... h....

frank hicks American by birth southern by the grace of GOD!

  29. J.... C....

    me too,but only since like 1981,when i was 16!

    A.... S....

Is it possible to love and appreciate them more and more after listening to them for over 40 years? YES IT IS!

    A.... S....

7am in New York ! Crankin MTB right here right now !

  40. r.... ....

That's some sweet guitar playing right there....

  41. B.... K....

Hit country stations wouldn't play MTB songs too long. Rock stations wouldn't play them because some of them wore cowboy hats...damn if you do or dont

    B.... K....

    same with the Outlaws

    B.... K....

Long Island's WLIR-FM played plenty of Tucker, Daniels, NRBQ, Allman and many more country rock bands. That was real radio, boys and girls.

    B.... K....

Hey Mike S , greetings from the South ! Checkout Black Berry Smoke's music,it's some of the best music out of the south in recent times in my humble opinion !

    B.... K....

mtnfordman: Plan to check them out. Thank you.

    B.... K....

Hey mtnforman, Greetings from Bavaria origninally from the Jersey Shore who my neighbor gave guitar lessons to my brothers (Ozzy guitar player/Zakk Wylde)! WNEW, WMMR, and K-rock out of NYC/Philly played south rock to us back then. MTB is my upmost fav southern band! The 1st 2 albums from Black Stone Cherry were pretty darn good. Black Berry Smoke isnt bad, but back in the heydays of real musicianship music you cant compare to today's music! Prost/cheers from Europa!

  42. s.... ....

It was about 30 yrs ago that my good friend in college turned me on to this album and it's haunted me ever since. And yes there's nuthin' like this song or like this band. Country Jazz is what I used to call it but now I just call it incredible.

  43. T.... W....

The other day at work, "I'll never ride drag on another cattle drive" seemed to make more sense than ever to me, ......and I had not even heard any Marshal Tucker music in so long. No southern rock ,Tucker, Waylon Jennings ect. Is being played on any Cleveland ,Ohio radio stations. I'm glad I'm Tuckerized! I lived Foolish Dreaming
If you love Tucker, then you have to give a listen to "McGuffey Lane", out of Columbus,Ohio!!!

  44. M.... L....

Some people (not all) do not realize how good they were.

    M.... L....

Agreed Michael.  Man and how Toy takes me to another place on this Tucker gem.  Hope folks never forget how original, sincere, and genuine that he and the Tucker boys were. Ever inspiring!

    M.... L....

It's a shame that most of the people I have met in Europe have never even heard of Marshall Tucker.  A true shame and a loss for them.

    M.... L....

Saw them in late 70's they were tite

  45. T.... F....

I listen to this over and over as well, it's as classic and forever as a evening sunset.

  46. J.... B....

Just so you guys know, this is "the recording session" for how to record drums!!! when you are near real drums... they sound like this....

  47. z.... ....

My head just blew up. What a feckin song. This band was the goods!

  48. m.... ....

Mr. Taffy has it NAILED, this album is simply the best they would produce and this song & "If I could see you one more time" are complete knock-outs ! I never leave home w/o this CD in my suitcase .

    m.... ....

    misterfids
Still think their best album was together forever. Don't think the band was ever tighter

  49. g.... ....

Thank you for posting this. I have been looking for this for years.

  50. D.... S....

the critics didn't rate this album very good. one of my favorite albums of all.

  51. L.... Y....

I could listen to this song over and over. Definitely sums up the Tucker style.

  52. j.... O....

i remenber the 10 album from back in my younger days and never dremaed i would listen to it again the way life goes so fast these days, god bless country boys for bein humble

  53. J.... g....

One of the most under rated band of all time, well at least they have their die hard fans who love them

  54. o.... ....

this was the last mtb album with tommy ..

  55. 3.... ....

    Just plain awesome !

  56. H.... A....

this is a masterpiece album period. never hear it in these so called bullshit classic rock stations here in los angeles, california and probably not in any other cities. i also have my original al bum and will buy the cd.

  57. M.... H....

It's my opinion that this is one of the most overlooked Marshall Tucker tunes. I was mesmerized when I first heard this tune in the waning days AOR radio. I bought "10th" because of this song. The story could had taken from a Zane Grey novel and the music is a driving jazzy rock treat.
